Absolutely stand up group of people working at Island Greenery. We had them come in to design front landscaping for us and they had some incredible ideas. We ultimately did not go with them (due to costs) but I have friends and neighbors who have used them and their work is impeccable. We recently purchased a tree in memoriam for a family member who passed and they were so incredible in helping us pick out a tree, and even worked with us on delivery costs/timing. I could not recommend them more. Also, they're the only place I'll go to for propane. They don't swap out your tank, only fill the ones that you bring, which I love considering I purchased new tanks when I moved into the neighborhood. read more

Last week we had Island Greenery plant 16 Large Leyland Cyprus trees along our backyard fence for privacy, along with mulch. Sam was a pleasure to work with - she came to give some ideas ahead of time along with an estimate and was able to have their guys plant the trees the same week. The crew arrived on time, worked hard, and cleaned up like they were never there. Throughout the day Gene, the owner , Sam and another supervisor came to check to make sure the job was going well. We have been using Island Greenery since moving to Merrick in 2008. It's rare that you hear of a resident using the same landscaper for 11 years, which is why I'm writing this review. I've never had an issue in 11 years of service that Gene and his crew did not handle quickly and efficiently. What can I say? After several calls to other landscapers that don't either show up, give an estimate and don't call back and/or charge outrageous prices.. I found Island Greenery and Gene. He called me back I believe the same day, came over talked with me about what I wanted and how much we were willing to pay, worked up a design and a price. We met at his nursery .. great place .. he showed us the design and the plants that were pulled out for us to look at and get our approval. That was Saturday. On Tuesday his crew came and got to work immediately.. going above and beyond what we expected. Gene came and showed them exactly where each plant was to go. I LOVE our new garden! Everything came out perfectly. Our neighbors have stopped by to say how great our garden looks and my FB photos have generated a lot of good comments too! BUYER BEWARE!! Gene from Island Greenery came to my home today unannounced after multiple unreturned phone calls from my fiance, had a screaming confrontation with me that my neighbors witnessed and then stormed away, yelling that he was breaking my contract, because his workers failed to adequately deweed our flower beds and lawn and properly seed our lawn during the spring cleanup and failed to show up last week at all for weekly maintenance. Very professional. Allow me to explain: We hired Island Greenery last fall after reading the positive reviews here on Yelp. We hired them for our fall cleanup and for the spring/summer of 2018. In the fall we had them weed our flower beds and lay black mulch. We were told they'd resume spring service two weeks ago w a spring cleanup followed by weekly maintenace. I called to see when they'd be coming and I was told our service day would be Mondays. The first Monday would be spring cleanup--deweeding our lawn and flower beds, laying seed, and lawn cutting-- followed by weekly maintenace. That Monday it poured so they came Tuesday. I called Island Greenery immediately after the workers left to let them know one of my beds had not been deweeded at all; there were two beginnings of dandelions sprouting up. I did not receive a callback so my fiance also called. He was assured by Gene it would taken care of the following week. I went outside and noticed dandelions growing all over the grass in both the front and back of our yard, as well as brown mushrooms caps sprouting from from the mulch, an issue that in the 32 years my fiance has lived here he's never had. We figured they'd address it at the next visit, but then they never showed up last week. My fiance called the office three times with zero returned calls to report the fungus growing from the mulch they laid in the fall, the dandelions, and the lack of visit. We were told we'd been accidentally left off the schedule and it would be addressed this week. Well, today, completely unannounced , a visibly inebriated Gene showed up to my home while my fiance was out. Can't make this up. I spied him standing on my lawn attempting to enter my backyard without my permission. What followed was an altercation where he insisted that the dandelions in my unweeded bed must have suddenly shot up and that we must have decaying matter in the soil and it was 100% not his fault and that he was cancelling his contract with us because I told him I had photo evidence of them not deweeding the bed. Very professional. The encounter lasted about 30 mins where he shouted at me standing in the driver side door of his pickup truck while my neighbors looked on. All because his guys failed to adequately deweed flower beds and address a fungus issue he brought when he laid mulch in the fall. All that needed to be done was have the yard serviced properly, but Gene threw a fit instead of simply sending his workers to finish the job. In the time it took for him to show up here unannounced and have this argument, the problem could have been rectified. Never again. read more

Called these guys because they do the other houses on my block. They said they would came and gave me an estimate which was very high, but i went with them anyway. I called back to discuss it and the guy didnt even remember me. He said he was going to come out on sat. That was 2 weeks ago. have heard nothing. Whenever I go to other nurseries there is a huge price difference when compared to Island Greenery. My wife and I have been customers of Island Greenery for 6 years since we bought our new home in Seaford. It's our only source for plants because we've always gotten excellent service and advice. The workers are friendly and knowledgeable. We were pleased that they were open in early May despite the Covid-19 closings until we got there. Many customers and Most workers weren't wearing masks. So we didn't feel safe. We needed help choosing annuals & shrubs for our backyard but the women who usually help us were noticeably missing. They had been replaced by a younger less experienced group who weren't able to answer our questions or offer suggestions for a shady garden. It was very crowded and the manager was helping other customers. We picked out a few annuals we had planted last year but when we went to pay in the Greenhouse there was no protection, no screen, no plexiglass barrier between the customers and cashier. IOW people paying were forced to get within a few feet of the cashier. Again we felt unsafe. We actually left disappointed without buying the annuals we chose. Ownership at Island Greenery really needs to take Covid more seriously or customers are going to feel disrespected. They also need more employees who know about the plants they're selling otherwise we won't be returning. read more

I had a great experience with this company the first time I used them. However the next time I hired them, the communication was terrible (they never called me back), they didn't show up to do the work when they said they would, and when they did finally show at the end of the season, the landscaping looked horrendous. It looked cheap and rushed. To be honest, it was embarrassing. I called them to see if they could rectify the situation, giving them the benefit of the doubt, and they screamed at me and defended their work, which in my opinion, was pretty un-defendable. I guess the customer isn't always right. Bottom line, this company doesn't care about the needs of their clients and the only thing they deliver are false descriptions and an attitude. I warn any consumer looking for gardening or landscaping to stay away from Long Island Greenery. read more

Our experience having masonry work done by Island Greenery was not a positive one. After damaging our sprinkler system (which is brand new, by the way) and actually installing our patio/pavers above a sprinkler head (after finding the sprinkler head on the back of our lawn- so clearly they knew they hit the sprinkler line and failed to do anything about it nor communicate it to us), you would think the business would hold accountability and be apologetic, want to make things right, and take full responsibility for it. But not Island Greenery! We didn't realize it was damaged until after the patio was already completed and turned our sprinklers on and saw a pool of water come up from beneath/ the edge of the patio, and the rest of the sprinklers not operating properly. Had we known they would be careless about our in-ground sprinklers and cost us more money in the end, we would not have paid them to do this work. Now we are stuck paying for damages that they caused. We do not recommend Island greenery for masonry work. Can't speak for the landscaping aspect of their business; they will not be getting any future business from us. read more

All the employees are knowledgeable and helpful. Had recently used them to remove and clean up my landscaping and they did an amazing job.

Immediately after my post on Yelp, i was contacted by Island Greenery and they made arrangements to replace the tree as per their warranty. My immediate reaction was one of satisfaction but still made me question their intentions, did they only do this because of social media? I expected a call from them shortly after the replacement, asking me to update my post. They never called or pressured me to do so. They replaced the tree and we were happy. Today my faith was completely restored in Island Greenery when they came to our house, unannounced and did a follow up on the tree. They added some seed, checked the soil and spent some time to ensure this tree blooms. I was truly amazed they did this and still never asked for us to update our post. I never thought I would say this but I would now go back to Island Greenery and would recommend them to my friends. They went above and beyond and because this tree was planted for my mother who passed, their extra effort becomes even more appreciated.
