Island in the Sky is the most popular/visited part of this massive national park (Canyonlands). This is because it is the most easily accessible part for most people traveling in regular cars/RVs (whereas other parts of the park e.g. the needles require high clearance/AWD). This visitor center is clean, nice, and well equipped. The NPS staff are friendly and helpful and the info video is very interesting (that's where I learned about the other three main sections of the park!) and runs often. The gift shop is located here too, and there are water fill stations. Do note that the bathrooms here are all the "glorified portapotty" kind where you don't flush/there is hand sani but they are not air conditioned and do have that classic outdoor bathroom smell. Nevertheless, they were fairly clean/well taken care of. The parking situation is decent; there is one main row of spots that do fill, but there is a lot of turnover so I did get a spot quickly and most folks behind me did too while others were leaving. Of note, the overlook just across the street from the visitor center of the monument basin is one of the best views in the park -- definitely stop here for pictures before you go! read more

This visitor center is on the smaller side, but packed with information about points of interest and great hikes. There is a small gift shop area that is standard through all the NPS visitor centers. The parking lot is small and many people had to park on the side of the road. Pit toilets - as this is a water scarce area, I can see why they would want to avoid the water usage from all of the visitors they receive. If you need potable water they do have a spigot out in front to refill water bottles. It's the only place to get water in the park. read more

Nice little visitor center with a video you can watch since you probably didn't do much research before coming to Canyonlands.

Not the largest national park visitor center, but it still has everything that you need as far as retrieving information about vista points and hikes around the park. I stopped here to get some information about Canyonlands National Park before I started exploring. I only had one day to spend and I wanted to be sure to maximum my time as much as possible. Right near the entrance is a placard showing recommended hikes in the park. Very convenient if you don't have much time to talk to an actual ranger. But if you DO want to speak with a ranger, they're available to answer your questions. I was able to setup a pretty nice itinerary based off of the suggestion of the ranger that I spoke with while inside. You can find park maps and souvenirs as well. You can also purchase an annual national park pass here (and pay your entrance fees too if need be). Also, very important: If you need water, you must get it here as this is the only place in the park to get it. Once inside the park, the amenities are extremely remote and there is no other water station. It gets hot, so be prepared and make sure that you have enough with you! There's a nice little picnic area near the parking lot with some awesome views of the canyon and of course, restrooms are on site. Speaking of views; you will have some of the best views within the entire park right across from the visitor center! You pull up and then boom! Views. For. DAYS! The vista that's located right across from the center is short walk but absolutely worth a visit for the views. They are pretty damn spectacular and a great foreshadowing of what Canyonlands NP entails. If it's your first time visiting Canyonlands, it's a great idea to stop here first to plan out your itinerary. read more

I was at Arches National Park, UT, back in June 2022. My main goal was to hike the Delicate Arch which I did... strenuous, but great hike! Whenever I visit any new attraction, I like to get a few magnets to remember it by so I can see it on my frig or whiteboard. Yes, I am an adamant magnet collector... I have the evidence to prove it... hundreds of them... not sure if I've reached 1000 yet though LOL. I walked into the Island in the Sky Visitor Center and went straight to the magnets section. I picked out a few that had the Delicate Arch on it. That was it for me! The center was pretty big... cool and clean. It was full of people looking around and shopping. They have tons of goodies and souvenirs. Restrooms are outside. So do drop on by and see what you can grab when you're at Arches NPS. You may find something nice to bring back home for keepsake. As far as visitor centers for NPS go - this one is very basic. It's not as large, complex, welcoming, and posh as some of the others but it gets the job done. That's not entirely a bad thing - but it's small and I found the staff inside to be somewhat snotty. The lady as I paid asked me if I wanted to donate another $1 by rounding up my 19.07 purchase. I said no - because this was our 5th park in 5 days, I've spent tons of money there, donated plenty, and I was just ready to get out and hike. She was rude after that, seemed upset that I said no to the donoation question and, when I asked for a very small paper bag for my coins, pin and collectible stickers for my luggage so I didn't lose them, she stuffed them into the bag without any care so I had to go to the side and check to make sure she didn't bend or damage them. Rude. Aside from her behavior, they have an informational desk where you can get assistance from staff on what to see and do like all the other parks and they have outside bathrooms that are permanent but, like a lot of the toilets in the deserts of Utah, are more outhouse than bathroom. Functional and small. But gets the job done. read more

The visitor center is the only place to get water in the park so make sure you stock up at minimum a gallon per person. The staff is very knowledgeable of the park and will explain the trails. read more
