Island Photography's customer service is absolutely wonderful. USPS delivered my son's graduation photos from Island Photography and unfortunately they arrived bent and damaged. I contacted them and they immediately sent out a replacement set! This time, when I received them, they made sure that they were triple packaged and protected. The photos were perfect and beautiful. They made sure USPS couldn't damage them with their shipping shenanigans! Island Photography cares about their customers and I personally felt they wanted me to have an absolute positive experience. This place cannot be the best deal on the island for school pictures. My senior was ill and missed senior pictures so he had to go into their studio to get them done. They tried to tell me that there is an extra fee to come in to do this, which I questioned and then they waived because that's ridiculous and the pictures from previous haven't ever come out well in the previous years either. read more

I ordered for a refund the reason doesn't matter. This First woman I spoke with was nice she asked my why I wanted to return it and put in an order to cancel my grad photos because I had ordered them that night. She said she would reach out but she did not so I called in again after 24 hours. This is where me problem comes in, the gentleman I spoke with on the phone was horrible. He huffed, puffed, and sighed into the phone when I went to look up my order ID (which took LESS than 1 minute). I could hear that he didn't want to talk and it sounded like he hated his job (which is fair don't take it out on me...). At the end of our conversation he proceeds to say (very monotone and robotic) "I will put in your order for the refund, bye." With shock I say bye but I had a couple of questions such as "how long would this process take?" And "Could I have your name just in case I need to call in again" (they ask if you remember who you spoke to) Overall it was just this one guy who made me a little upset my mom ordered some photos and I'm sure they look great. read more

Please don't contract with them. They took university graduation photos and every photo of the graduate had such terrible glare on the glasses that we could not see his face. At all. They then wanted us to send them a picture of our son's face so they could remove the glare. Nope. First let me add I've had experience with other photography companies since I see one good review saying maybe bad reviews haven't. Honestly any good reviews I wonder if they're real. My son's old school whoever they used no problem, all photographers I've used for him in his lifetime which has been quite a few, or even my own in my lifetime, I've yet to ever experience anything like this. I'm going to beg my son's school to hire another company. I made sure seeing picture day on the calendar that we wouldn't be away or anything on that day. Dressed our boy all adorable I mean yay kindergarten! Weeks went by nothing. I emailed them which was first photos are processing, blah blah blah excuses. Finally given a PIN number after contacting them like the 8th time? Only to be lead to a class shot where my son wasn't even looking at the camera. Okay I get that, he's never done a class shot, he's used to just him. I wouldn't even care if one lousy picture. Oh individual pictures? Lost! I much rather a real photographer take pictures of my boy but still the grandparents love this stuff. This company claims the teacher didn't bring him or got no picture as teacher swears and I believe her, that he got his picture taken. I mean why would she lie? She's got 1 class, few kids, and remembers the day better. They're the ones who lost his pictures so they rather blame her. They're the ones who basically had a cattle call that day. So yup dressed him up and expected at least a cute cheesy kindergarten photo for the grandparents and nope. As all our friends and everyone else get cute beginning of the year photos we have nothing. I mean this company literally has one job and can't do that right. I'm not alone with my horrible review. How they stay in business is beyond me but I'm going to try my hardest to get my boys school to hire literally anyone else. It was $30 for a digital image which I don't even care what it cost, I would've paid more if I'd at least get a picture. Hopefully we even get that refunded. Anyway hire this company if you want to be disappointed. We have no official kindergarten photo and photo retake day already passed. This business is so misleading! My college hired them for graduation pictures. In the email they asked me to pay 5 dollars to book the session but they never mentioned their real prices. I thought it was a great deal for probably just one picture. Days later, after the session I got an email with their prices. Holy cow! The cheapest is 70 dollars for just one digital picture. So if you don't order any, you lose your 5 dollars. Listen! I value their work but what a shady thing to not tell you in advance that the 5 dollars are not refundable and you get nothing out of it if you don't buy their products. Avoid like the plague. They took photo's of my daughters graduation. The brilliant photographer didn't bother to realize that people who wear glasses will get a reflection in their glasses, of the neon green lights behind them...so all the pictures have my daughter with green laser eyes. After receiving these, I requested a correction - they sent me another set, same green eyes. I asked for a refund, they sent me a third set of laser eyes. They should just go out of business and save the world a headache. read more

I just want to warn anyone using Island Photography for the photos of their children. We received the proofs of my daughter's college graduation photos and of course we purchased them because well she's my one and only. Paid the extra for the premium retouching because she had a stray hair across her forehead. We received the photos back and they did not remove the hair across her forehead. This was the only thing that needed retouching in these pictures and the fee for this was not cheap. Called them and they would not reimburse me and would only send me new pictures if I sent the ones with the stray hair across her forehead back to them first. Just beware and don't waste the money if you don't have to. We wish we didn't because now we are out the extra money with nothing to show for it. read more

Highly commercial company with very low quality prints. The photo paper is flimsy and if you just check out their price chart you will see what I mean by commercial. Add on prices for the tinest of changes (I am a photographer and a lot of these changes do not equate to material cost difference in practicality) The photos I recieved had printer streaks on them. Like seriously? Approximately 16 dollars for a 5x7 photo and its comes with streaks on the cheapest of photo papers with washer out colors? Even a high school photo student will produce better photos. Lesson learned. Hire a young photo student to document your ceremony for you, you will make an amatuer photographer super happy with a job opportunity which means they will put in their full effort and you will get a whole lot of better quality photos than what you will get from island photography. Island Photography took pictures of my sons college graduation. When I ordered the photos I was viewing them on my phone and the proofs were small. I didn't notice that there was two green spots from the glare on his eyeglasses and was disappointed for as much as I paid for them. I emailed the company explaining what happened. I ordered my Daughter's graduation photo that they took. The photo was great!! However, it was $50 to download the ONE image. I think that is WAY to pricey!! When my son graduated, it was $25. That was more reasonable. The photos are pretty good but you can't afford to buy them. Ridiculously expensive. It's extortion. Most people can't afford that for a photo! Where do I even start? Horrible horrible photos. Bad angles. Every single photo was such a bad angle of me. Made me feel like I looked horrible on my graduation day. iPhone photos captured me better. This company was hired to take professional photos at my graduation ceremony. Each graduate took a photo in front of a green screen by themselves. A few weeks after the ceremony, I received an email saying my proofs were ready. When I looked thru the photos, the pics of just me were not there. I emailed some classmates to see if they had theirs and they didn't either. I emailed Island Photography to inquire and was told that there was a malfunction and the solo pics were unsalvageable. Prestige Photography was a nightmare that went on for years and only ended with the threat of a lawsuit. Island Photography was simple and straight-forward. The photos were excellent quality, really beautiful. I placed my order over the phone with Courtney, who provided unqualified customer service support. She advised the best way to order photos at the least possible expense. The photos arrived less than two weeks later, each one perfect. Yes, the price was hefty; however, the pricing is competitive with other graduation photography businesses. Because I join two graduation, so they sent two different email and ask me to buy the photo. I buy one for one of my graduation, pay all the fees, and I need to pay for the shipment. For another one, I haven't bought. Now, I received email from this company, say, no shipping fees! And we have discounts! So it is stupid to buy it on time, is it? For the quality, I don't want to comment, as it is quite a short time to take. But the highest quality of the photo paper still not very good though, just a normal one. Island took photos of my son for his high school yearbook. Island knew of the year book requirement of a pic in a tux shirt. Apparently island's photographer overlooked this and just didn't do it. Isn't it their job to know what photos are needed? We called them and they said "yep you are right" and then offered the most inflexible, unreasonable times (only 2 choices) for a retake which required me to drive 30 minutes to their studio (needed to leave work for this) only to be stuck sitting in their waiting room with my son for a while (guess it gives me time to trash them in this review). I'm pretty sure island doesn't give two craps cuz they seem to have a monopoly on this for schools, but perhaps being professional and accommodating should be part of the offering here. read more

This company did both my senior and graduation photos. I have to say the photographers were very nice and patient. The issue is the price. Now you don't ever want to sell yourself short, but the quality of picture you get is equivalent to one you can take yourself with a decent camera and basic knowledge of photography. The prices are ridiculously high. I ended up buying my senior photo, keep in mind it's 1 photo, for about $70. My graduation ones are about $50 a piece for the digital copy. The only thing that distinguishes Island Photography from my mom is that they were allowed on stage and had green screens available. Not worth the money. Most of my friends just downloaded or screenshot the watermarked versions and used those lol. The photos were good but like I said, not worth the buck in my opinion. read more

I graduated from NYU and this company took the pictures. Here's what upsets me, the PRICE. SINGLE DIGITAL IMAGE IS $44.95, TWO DIGITAL IMAGES ARE $74.95 Either there were some kind of shady deal between NYU and this company or NYU is crazy about sucking every penny from students and Island Photography joined it happily (Do you remember "DON'T BE A JERK"? Of course I cannot really blame for their so-called industry standard, but... The photography was very very bland, nothing special about composition or lighting. All the elements were below "INDUSTRY STANDARD" Pictures look like a random guy took DSLR for the first time. Overview photo which is a wide shot of Radio City Music Hall, was very very bad and they are SELLING THAT PHOTO FOR $44.95 It's a different event, but Brooklyn Half Marathon photographers are way much better in every possible way. (Registration fee is $100 and they give you FREE DIGITAL COPY of MANY MANY GOOD SHOTS OF 27,000 PEOPLE RUNNING) WELL, This company may make some seasonal cash but I'm going to remember and make sure NO ONE around me hires this company. read more

My daughter's senior photos were taken by Island Photography; the lighting was bad, it was shot in a *humid* auditorium, out of order of number assigned and when we received the proofs, they were so dark it would have required retouching (which they were glad to do for even more money.) Out of over 50 proofs, NOT ONE was flattering. Not ONE. I kept the proofs (since I had to pay for them in order to see them) but I absolutely refused to buy any of the portraits. Island Photography also took the middle school photos of my youngest daughter and her eyes were *closed* and they sent the entire photo package home with her anyway. I sent them back and refused to buy them. Are you kidding me? I've volunteered for photo day at my kids' schools through the PTA and I *know* the photographer has to look at the screen on their laptops before the photo is saved or shot; there is NO way they did not see that her eyes were closed. For the pricing and quality of the photos (and the required retouching due to said quality) I absolutely would not recommend doing business with this company. read more

I imagine they contact schools and offer to do the photography for free because the real money comes from bilking people with outrageous prices after one of the most important moments of their lives complete with high pressure sales tactics. $50 for one single photo. A digital download. That's right. Something you can right click and click "save as" anywhere on google images, costs you, the person who's photo was taken in the first place.. $50. They're terrible. Predatory garbage. But unfortunately they have a niche because of the emotional impact of graduation and the fact no school will turn down a "free professional photographer". It's scummy. Thankfully mine came out and after 11 years in college of course I bought them, but you bet your rear end I'm filing a charge back once I get the photos to even out the price. I never signed any paper that said I was allowing you to claim copyright of my likeness in the first place. I have words to say to such a preposterous claim but they're not fit for Yelp's quality control. But basically you can go jump in a lake with that nonsense. Let's see what a lawyer has to say about you claiming copyright of an image of MYSELF without my permission or knowledge. They handled our kids' graduation. Individual photos were fine, but the overhead pics were not worth the extra $. Island was the only photog that had stage access, so you take what you get - unfortunately, the kid behind mine ended up photobombing the pic, but at the speed they were handing out diplomas, it was probably hard to avoid, I can't really blame the photographer. They did get decent post-reception pics. Tell the school before the ceremony to work on that - you pay a lot of money for these, the least they can do is separate the kids 3 feet... read more

Island Photography was hired by my College to photograph my graduation. All 7 of the photos they took were absolutely horrible and my eyes were open in none. The camera quality looked like someone hollowed out a potato, stuck it in the oven, took it out, and then mashed it up before using it to take the picture. Now... obviously I would NEVER buy these photos EVER. These guys are the most predatory advertisers in the WORLD. You cannot even unsubscribe from their mailing list. They will just continuously find ways to send you your absolutely HORRIBLE pictures time and time again. Would NEVER EVER buy these photos. Regardless if they were even legible or not. What a joke. Furthermore, the fact that you can't buy individual prints of several images is very frustrating. I don't need 20 of the same image, but 1 or 2 from each image. Hah, my mother with a DSLR can take better photos than Island Photography did for one of my school's events - she at least reviews them and deletes the bad ones. From my experience with Island Photography, it seems like they hire people who don't know how take photos, hand them DSLR's and train them to take pictures without even reviewing them, considering their appearance and retaking them if they were bad. Then again that may be from only a glimpse as everyone was hurried out of the photo area. The process went like this: They set up shop and make you stand in front of a green screen type set up with some of the worst lighting possible; then they just randomly shoot a picture of you and tell you to move along. Afterwards, you get constant emails asking for upward of $150 dollars for a set of 10 or so prints. Also, even though my school's event wasn't necessarily a graduation - their annoying template emails kept suggesting I order photos of my "graduation." I wish I time traveled to my graduation already! I am not the only one this has happened to. My girlfriends graduation used Island Photography and I found it hilarious that that they used the SAME backgrounds and patterns from her graduation in our event photos. The only thing they did was change the school logo background photo. Oh, and hers were terrible quality too. Essentially, any event that hires them to do their photography is wasting their money on cookie cutter 5 second images. Anyone who orders images from them should highly consider getting a better, dedicated single head shot from a reputable photographer for probably the same amount you will spend here on poor images. In the end, I didn't order any photos from them, but loved one that my mother took of me. read more

This company lacks good customer service. I ordered my senior portraits over a month ago and have not received them. When I called about 2-3 weeks ago they told me it was shipped and two days after was delivered but no one was home. Meanwhile my mother has a stay at home job and never received a package. They told me they would ship out another print for me. They sent me the same tracking number and still have not sent a new package out. I must have already called over 5 times and they keep telling me the same thing. Don't ever buy from these people. They are disorganized and will say anything to save their behind. read more
