I imagine it's even better at night. The cocktails were very pricey but absolutely perfect in every way. I didn't enjoy the food I ordered , the beef tartare, but that was purely because I didn't realise that it was going to be raw meat and it disturbed me somewhat! I would highly recommend this place but make sure you've got plenty of money to spare.

Take their Freaky Music Friday's for example which is a total must if, like me, you love a really good dance off. I stumbled in here with two work colleagues on a bitterly cold sleepy Wednesday night. I confess mostly I was happy to get out of the cold but I was ultimately lured in by the Wednesday's Half Price Steak night. We were not disappointed. I'm not so bothered by décor as I'll take good food over posh wallpaper any day, but if it's your thang then this place is very nicely styled. We quickly skimmed over the excessively priced wine list, selected a discounted Happy Hour bottle of Malbec and headed straight to the decent choice of cut price steak list. Overall I can't begin to recommend highly enough: 1. The steak - probably one of the best I have ever had, so tender, melt in the mouth tasty and a total bargain £17.00 for their 300g petit chateau (that's the best cut from the middle of a fillet btw) 2. The amazing Guinness and Soya reduction. It was a tough call to divert my attention away from the amazingly sublime smokey peppercorn I'd chosen but I couldn't resist dipping into my colleagues more than a few times after the first taste! 3. The service. Superbly attentive, perhaps a little too keen but it was a quiet night 4, The Happy Hour half priced bottle of Malbec and bargain steaks. We were unanimous in our 'too stuffed for desert or coffee' verdict so I can't comment on anything else on the menu on this occasion but I am persuaded enough to come back here again and not just to swing my booty about on a Freaky Friday Dance night. 10/10 Biltmore Bar & Grill.

We took the train after a week of exploring London, found our accommodations, walked through all the shops that had just closed, and came across Pavement Vaults. There's a kids' menu and it doesn't have just the ol' regular stuff on it. It has ribs. But also pizza and Mac and cheese for those who like the same old (as at least one of our kids tends to). But it also has tasty, flavorful food for the adults. As in American inspired BBQ. We didn't expect to encounter BBQ. But it had just the right spice and we needed it to warm up. The wine menu was just right and my husband enjoyed a beer. The service was top notch. The music was good too. And, nice clean bathrooms. That's important when you're spending weeks traveling. Loved the pulled pork sandwich. The fries are skinny and spicy, but not so much that my daughter didn't eat a bunch. Two in our party enjoyed the ribs. 'Falls off the bone.'

My wife got the pork chops special and it was good too but the beans that were served with it were spectacular. Beans??? I didn't know they could be spectacular. Truffle chips (fries) were quality too. The home made black sheep sticky toffee pudding was also a must try. Lastly, Gosia, our waitress, was knowledgeable and took great care of us. When we are in York, we will be back.

Waitstaff were very attentive and friendly. Hubby ordered onion rings which were hand battered and delicious. I ordered cod and vegetable risotto which were fine but not remarkable. Broccolini with blue cheese sauce barely had any blue cheese or sauce and was hard, not cooked really much at all. I left half of the serving. We had bread pudding for dessert which was also okay. I didn't find the seasoning of the food to be adequate and maybe salt and pepper on the table would have helped this. By the time our food came out, the waitstaff was busy so I didn't have a ready opportunity to ask for salt. And should I have to ask? This place has a charming interior but i'd suggest drinks here, not dinner.

A group of us stopped here around Halloween while making a drive from London to Scotland. One of my friends loves anything spooky, so I sought out what's rumored to be one of the most haunted pubs in the area (I think we were in York... forgive me if I'm off, travel brain ). From the moment you walk in, the place is dark, moody, and mysterious with a very cool vibe. You seat yourself, and we had a table reserved. The atmosphere was lively and social, almost speakeasy-like. There's no traditional table service, you scan a QR code, order food on your phone, and it magically appears at your table. Drinks are ordered directly at the bar, which we learned is pretty common here. Fun surprise: the bartender was actually from California, so it was great chatting with someone from the States while abroad. The crowd overall was lovely, mostly locals, and everyone was super friendly and chatty with us Americans, which really added to the experience. Halfway through our meal, a live band set up right in front of us and absolutely killed it. Think Rolling Stones meets a gritty Seattle grunge band. They were phenomenal. They even invited me up to sing... but sadly, I hadn't had enough shots yet, so I declined. Maybe next time Food-wise, we ordered butternut squash, a few burgers, chicken wings, and a few appetizers. The food was just okay, not bad by any means, but not the highlight. For a pub in the middle of York, it was perfectly acceptable and hit the spot. Did we feel a spooky, haunted vibe? Honestly... not really, which was a bit of a letdown. But hanging out next to the little skeleton sitting at the bar (which I think someone has already posted photos of) was still fun. The memorabilia and décor throughout the pub are great and give you plenty to look at. Overall, The Golden Fleece is a very cool stop for a quick bite, drinks, and fantastic live music. The atmosphere and camaraderie made the night, and I'd absolutely recommend popping in if you're nearby, especially if there's a band playing.

Honestly, it's the kind of pub you want to spend a couple of hours in, just soaking up the atmosphere and imagining all the stories those old walls could tell. If you're in York and want a pint somewhere with a bit of history (and maybe a ghost sighting or two), The Golden Fleece is definitely worth popping into.

We had one drink here for four folks - two pints and two glasses of wine £22.95 - and while the food menu looked darn good and reasonably priced there was no atmosphere nor character to persuade us to stay. The young barmaid behind the counter was functional but devoid of easy chat. I'm glad on reflection that we went to the trembling madness next - their booze selection was stunning in comparison and cheaper at £22.10 for a similar round of better quality drinks. I sure wouldn't return here.

I chose half a porter which I have forgotten the name of and then it was pizza time. We wanted one that was called American something and had pulled pork on it but were told the pork had run out. They offered to replace with chicken/ham/bacon but that didn't sound as appealing so our second choice was a ham and pineapple as I appear to have come full circle and now love pineapple as a pizza topping again. This was £7.50 for a decent size pizza and was really tasty, though maybe a bit too saucy. I'm not sure I would come here specifically for pizza, but I imagine it's a good place to meet with a group of friends. I would definitely come back for beer and would probably end up ordering pizza, if that makes any sense.
