I spent the first half of my life not knowing it as anything other than "IV's", so it's worth saying I have been here a few times. I had my first date here and I ate half a pizza. Also a fun place for an informal get-together with a group. I typically get pasta here even though the pizza is good. Their Bosco sticks are maybe one of the best things ever made. My friends like the salad bar a lot, but I'm not much of a veggie eater, so I'll let you be the judge of that. #gimmecarbs Atmosphere is great and staff is friendly. Italian Village has always been a family favorite for us. As a big family who loves a good time and come together Italian Village has always been a restaurant that we have trusted to go when wanting to eat with everyone. They have plenty of room in the restaurant and the carry out service is fast. Food is outstanding like always as a family who loves pizza we always get the thin sausage family favorite, as well as a confusion thin crust, and of course salad bar has a lot of options and is always good. if you are not in the mood for the pizza they have other options that are very good. Has a person who has come here since she was little with the family it has never disappointed ever. The vibe is very casual and not super fancy at all also a good stop after a sporting event or shopping trip. All the employees are nice and helpful and have very good customer service. The owners wife was very disrespectful after paying $26.00 plus card fees for two pizzas that were under cooked. i had asked for a couple pickles off the salad bar for my pizza and was informed that I'd have to purchase a salad in order to have a couple. Excellent Pizza! Being from the Chicago area I am very biased when it comes to pizza and as a self proclaimed pizza snob I have high standards. That being said Italian Village did not disappoint. For starters we had the wings. With a buffalo sauce that was just right for my pallet. For our entree we ordered the "Confusion" a thin crust pizza with a bunch of different meats, onions and green peppers (hold the shrooms). I give it high marks across the board. Perfect thin crispy crust. Excellent sauce, toppings and cheese. The family also has an interesting historic connection to Carbondale. Italian Village, or IVs as some call it, is the kind of place that seems to thrive in college towns. One of the things that makes it so awesome is the ambience, not quite level second floor, writing on all the walls, and decor that seems stuck in the 1970s. The food is quite good, and I really prefer a spicier sauce where there's is definitely sweeter. The prices are reasonable and the staff is super friendly. You can get a table for two or for ten. It's a great place for friends and family to gather for a meal and relax. read more

I went through to pick up my order the other night and I tell them what's on the order what was ordered and the lady said should be back and she didn't come to the window then a guy came to the window and said have you been helping I said well I guess but I've been waiting here for almost 10 minutes so what's going on and so what's the name of the order I told him and told everyone walked away and then came back and said everything's there well when I got home but there was a pizza the pizza was still the oven and I found out this guy is the manager I do not know what's going on the parking lot was not very full things could have been done a lot better they did Apologize over and over but I have no idea what's going on but they need to try to fix these issues. read more

Dating back to 1960 and better known as "IV's" by locals, pizza has been their specialty and is distinctly different than other pizza joints in the vicinity. Located within walking distance of the Southern Illinois University campus, Italian Village is a favorite of students and families alike. We all know there are as many different variations of pizza as there opinions, with that said, this place is worth trying. Not my favorite local pizza maker, (Quatro's is #1 on my list) but better than any pizza chain you'll find. Ingredients are fresh, sauce is slightly on the sweet side, and you won't leave hungry. Atmosphere is very casual and to be quite honest, the facility is in dire need of a renovation, but if that is the furthest thing from your mind, add IV's to your rotation of pizza delivery! read more

This is the worst meal I've had in a long while. We waited 35 minutes and all our food came out all together even though the lady we ordered with said they would bring out the wings and toasted ravioli early. The toasted ravioli could easily have been store bought and the wings were fatty and not crisp at all. I was totally turned off by the au jus served with the Italian beef(see pic) . It was grey and looked like chicken broth. The sandwich was flavorless and dry. There was no way I was using the juice. My husband had ravioli. He said it was just average and did not look homemade. This place is less than desirable. We were looking for pizza and figured we would try this place out. Every other place was packed except for this. Case and point. They didn't ruin the pizza, which was okay but they ruined the pizza experience. You order your food then sit down and they call your number. I don't know if they were trying to bring the fast food pizza concept into a college town or really a piss poor copy of Gino's East in Chicago with the decor and serve McDonald's quality pie. There was writing on the wall with visitors names and the table and chairs were that of folding tables that your parents had in their basement. At 5:45pm today, we went to Italian Village in Carbondale for date night. The parking lot was full, so we assumed that they were open. We attempted to open the door to find it locked. There was no sign on the door explaining what was going on, just a locked door. Another group came up behind us at this time and was wondering why we were waiting outside. We told them, we didn't know what was going on. A lady from their group walked up to the drive-thru window and asked about the door being locked. He simply said that they were too full. So, they locked the door. We were able to see inside and there were plenty of empty tables. When we were leaving several more groups walked up to the door and couldn't get in and seemed just as confused as we were. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that they could've been "too busy", but the upsetting part is not respecting the potential customers enough to at the very least post a sign explaining what was going on and why the door was locked. I'm not sure what the manager was thinking, but locking a door during business hours without notifying potential customers is not ok. I have never been to this place before and because of the way they chose to handle the situation, I will never go back. We ended up going to Mod's Pizza and the politeness of the staff and the way we were treated solidified that they will get our business in the future. read more

The thinner soft crust compares to no other crust I've had. The combination of it and the sweeter sauce is perfect. I'd love to give this place five stars but the interior is in pretty bad shape. The writing on the walls is a tradition but there's so much of it now that it gives off a appearance of being dirty. SALTY SALTY SALTY It is a college town dumpy bar that over salts everything to get the customers to buy more beer. It is filthy, sticky crusty tables, strangely located restrooms and the whole place is DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY! IT IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT! There is NO service you order at the bar and the cashier clearly would rather be anywhere else. The food is NOT cheap and the salty portions are small. We left not even finishing our food. I did not the like the food-at all. My daughter didn't either and she's a starving college student. who survives mostly on snack foods. Go figure. In fact, we didn't even eat it. I wrapped it up, carried it around for hours and traveled back to Chicago with it because I'm a cheapskate and don't like to waste anything. I'll find something to do with it I suppose. Fettucine alfredo with chicken: the sauce was very heavy and it just didn't taste good. Lasagna: Way way off- I don't know. We just weren't happy with our food.
