CALIFORNIA roll and spicy shake roll

I don't typically do yelp reviews but this place was such a pleasant surprise I had to give Mr. Itamae his dues. I'm not one to eat sushi at an airport but the whole airport is immaculate and this place looked like a 5 star restaurant. After hours of traveling, my wife and I got two rolls and mine was easily the best sushi I've ever had. If this place was in the states I'd eat here weekly. Don't doubt, this place is the bomb.

Good sushi for airport food. The quantity and quality are definitely lacking but my expectations were really low going into this. I picked the toku-joo which is 14 pieces of sashimi/sushi chefs choice but you can see in the picture they threw in 4 rolls and mainly had salmon to keep the cost down. Raw fish was pretty thin and cost was 159kr which is 16us dollars. They had unlimited miso soup which was nice. Again airport food...

Spicy Tuna roll and gyoza plus a frosty Kirin...

Unexpected layovers are a fact of life, as are bad (and all too costly) airport meals. That's why a little place like this is so great. I can't imagine anyone would think Sweden was the sushi capital of the world, but don't fear...both the gyoza and my spicy tuna roll (which was tempura fried no less) were delicious. Good food, quick service!

I found Ai pretty much by accident on Google. It's tucked away and can be pretty easy to miss in the most "lively" part of Uppsala, but I wandered in here with a friend one day because I was badly craving some Katsu. Finding Katsu in Sweden can definitely prove to be a challenge in Sweden - and I was so happy to have Ai offering it and was excited to try their Katsu out. This place is run by the same guys that run the Amazing Thai chains and some Asian food variety stores around the city. The restaurant is quite small and boasts an open kitchen (which as I mentioned earlier, is a huge deal for me. I love being able to see how my food is prepared). We ordered a big assortment of food: fried mashed potato (amazing), dumplings (they were fine), and the sashimi starter. All of them were definitely good and the value for money was awesome. For the main, we went for what turned out to be the hero of the meal: the Katsu. I had almost zero expectations for the Katsu, but was pleasantly surprised to find it being flavorful and authentic. The best part about this place is that it's quite inexpensive but offers quite tasty food, so it definitely gets a high mark in my book when looking for dining options in Uppsala. Service remained attentive throughout.

I honestly could eat here multiple days in a row because I love Sushi and it is very good sushi. The place is Spartan. It looks like it is mostly takeout but they have a few booths and some tables. Even if you dine in it is pretty much self-serve. There are no waitresses. If you are dining in, you go to the counter, place your order and buy your drinks then sit down. The Sushi Chef (owner I presume) brings your food to whereever you sit. Be warned that they do not speak one lick of English. They have a couple copies of their menu that are in (kinda) English. And they have a picture on the wall across from the cashier of the various fish offered as Sushi. I got my order in by pointing at "Sushi" on the menu, then pointing at the fish pictures and holding up fingers. (Point at the tuna, hold 4 fingers for 4 pieces, point at Snapper, hold up 2 fingers, point at Salmon, hold up 2 fingers) I also pointed at dumplings on the menu (12 dumplings, were a mix of meat dumplings and veggie dumplings) Amazingly the order came out fast and correct. First came the sushi, 4 pieces of Tuna, 2 of Snapper and 2 Salmon. About the time I polished them off, out came my dumplings. Everything was very good. The bonus part....8 pieces of sushi, a platter of 12 dumplings and a Coke Zero was $24.93. Great value for the quality of food. Good food, nice people that don't speak English and Zero ambiance. If you want fine dining....this is not the place. If you just want to eat some really good sushi and dumplings come here. (they have other Japanese dishes offered that I would bet are good...something to try next time).

My chicken was soggy and chewy, all of the vegetables were undercooked and hard and the sauce was completely overpowering the taste of everything with an offensive flavor. On top of that this place was 500kr for a meal for 2, far from cheap in my opinion.
