I have to disagree with some of the comments on here. I ordered the corn beef special and it had more meat on it than any nine dollar sandwich I've ever had. Very tasty and flavorful, and as stated, the meat-bread ratio was superb. When I am in this area during my travels, I will definitely stop in again and try some other menu items

Literally a Mom and Pop shop! Mom is Marion, and we didn't get Pop's name, but he is super friendly as is Mom. Loads of care and love go into this food, and as Pop told us, he aims for the best ingredients he can get. They are butcher and baker here, and candlesticks are for sale up front, but makers they are not. In addition to the fine prepared foods, this is also a convenience store and deli. We tried the chicken salad, chicken marsala, and chicken pot pie. Everything was great. We were lucky enough to get the marsala freshly made, and still hot. The whole store smelled of the marsala and it was heavenly! We ate it immediately at home, and it was amazing! I was even obsessed with getting every drop of broth from it, because the flavor was so deep and good. It was $16 for 4 cutlets, two larger, two smaller. Basically 2 entree portions for $16, without sides. It's a good deal, especially when you don't feel like cooking, but don't want to go out, but yet you want something with more sophistication than burger takeout. There was so much more we wanted to try, but it will take a few visits to peruse it all. The desserts looked great, particularly the banana cream pie. I really want to sample the Mediterranean chicken next time, as well as the Shepherd's pie, and the roast beef, which Pops told us is also made fresh there. Apparently everything, including crusts, seasoning blends, etc. -- all made from scratch! Amazing! I am so happy we stopped, but sad we didn't do it sooner. So glad to have found them! * * * UPDATE 6/6/18 * * * Went back the next day to try some desserts. Got the banana cream pie and the brownies. YUM! The banana cream pie was delicious, and recommended. The brownies, were AMAZING! Totally fudge-y in a chocolate ganache way, and PACKED with chocolate, including shavings baked in. DELICIOUS! Must try!

After having worked at Villanova for the past 25 years, I realized that I had never tried this place so I finally stopped in to give it a whirl. The hoagies were not bad at all - they don't have a ton of meat on them, but I'm not one of those people who likes a ton of meat on my hoagie anyway so it suited me just fine. I also liked the ham, pepper jelly, and cream cheese on marbled rye (pepper jelly and cream cheese is a Southern thing in case ya'll didn't know!) but I thought it could use some crunch from lettuce or sweet onions or something. Also a Southern thing, I was excited to see pickle relish in the deviled eggs but while they were good, I think I detected some Miracle Whip in there - not really sure, but it just gave them a little bit of an off taste I didn't like. As for customer service, the people working there were all so friendly and accommodating. I'm glad I finally gave the place a try and will most likely stop in again sometime to try some of their other items.

Small little market but everything is so fresh, made with only the finest ingredients

I went about 1:30 ish and quickly learned its best to order ahead and pickup. Lord of people waiting so I know it's gonna be good and I have patience for a good hoagie. This however is not good it is AMAZING! I ended up ordering the corned beef pastrami with everything and added provolone. A huge and heavy sandwich for $13. When I got home and unwrapped it I was smiling from ear to ear. First of all the way they package it shows the love they put in their hoagies. This was for sure gonna be half for lunch and half for dinner. They do offer smaller options. It was Packed with corned beef and pastrami(all boars head products) fresh lettuce, tomato hot and sweet peppers and pickles with a good amount of mayo. Oil and seasoning also. So so so good! I'll for sure be back to try the infamous turkey London broil and eat my way through the menu. So happy I live nearby!

When 30 minutes came and went, I asked if it was ready and it was. I don't know how long it was sitting there. And it wasn't even that good. My dining companion argued strenuously that pickles have no place on a hoagie but I ignored him lol. I skipped the mayo tho. Surprisingly Dan takes credit cards and Apple Pay, $5 min. He keeps long hours for such a simple sandwich shop. Dan's used to be a butcher & convenience store, maybe back in 1947. Now the shelves are mostly empty except for chips soda and milk, and the butcher case mostly has coleslaw and deli meats. It's actually kind of depressing if you walk to the back. Next time I'll get a meatball or tuna hoagie. Vegetarian rating: one star, they don't even try.

Its a small old school deli that slices the meat to order and provides service with a smile. I was working in Fishtown and checked yelp real quick to see if there was a new spot nearby that I could try for lunch. Dan's had very good reviews and it was less than 5 minutes away. I think its a husband and wife that run this place but I wasn't 100% sure. I ordered a large Italian hoagie and woman behind the counter grabbed the roll from the clear bin in front of the counter and the gentlemen sliced the meat fresh for my Italian and added peppers, oil & vinegar and SPO. There are not many places that still operate like a true old school deli and I really enjoyed it. As she handed me the hoagie she asked if I had ever been there before to which I answered "no." She said well you'll be back. I loved the confidence and she was 100% right! If you are in the area and love a good Italian hoagie Dan's is a must try.
