I can't believe I just discovered this store! Jim and Marions Ithan Market is the only place I would take out from. I am a cook, and their food is all homemade. They actually cut their own steaks, grind beef for hamburgers while you wait and roast chicken for their chicken salad. My favorite though is the eggplant parm. They need to update their prices on their website. On the website the price for 8 meatballs is priced at $13.50, only to be told in the store it's $22.00. That's a big difference. Same with the small personal size chicken pot pies, it's not $8 dollars read more

Ithan market is a gem on the Main Line. It is easy to pass by because it doesn't have a lot of glitzy signage. But if you are ever in this area and you're so lucky to find it on Conestoga Road then stop by and visit with the shopkeeper Marianne. She is a extraordinarily clever chef and creator of so many culinary treats. If you have ever had their chicken pot pie, you know exactly what I mean. If you need a special dish for a holiday treat or a dinner party or maybe a friend then this is the place to go. The sandwich list is also outstanding, creative and often challenging to find which one to pick. I have to disagree with some of the comments on here. I ordered the corn beef special and it had more meat on it than any nine dollar sandwich I've ever had. Literally a Mom and Pop shop! Mom is Marion, and we didn't get Pop's name, but he is super friendly as is Mom. Loads of care and love go into this food, and as Pop told us, he aims for the best ingredients he can get. They are butcher and baker here, and candlesticks are for sale up front, but makers they are not. In addition to the fine prepared foods, this is also a convenience store and deli. We tried the chicken salad, chicken marsala, and chicken pot pie. Everything was great. We were lucky enough to get the marsala freshly made, and still hot. The whole store smelled of the marsala and it was heavenly! We ate it immediately at home, and it was amazing! I was even obsessed with getting every drop of broth from it, because the flavor was so deep and good. It was $16 for 4 cutlets, two larger, two smaller. Basically 2 entree portions for $16, without sides. It's a good deal, especially when you don't feel like cooking, but don't want to go out, but yet you want something with more sophistication than burger takeout. There was so much more we wanted to try, but it will take a few visits to peruse it all. The desserts looked great, particularly the banana cream pie. I really want to sample the Mediterranean chicken next time, as well as the Shepherd's pie, and the roast beef, which Pops told us is also made fresh there. Apparently everything, including crusts, seasoning blends, etc. -- all made from scratch! Amazing! I am so happy we stopped, but sad we didn't do it sooner. After having worked at Villanova for the past 25 years, I realized that I had never tried this place so I finally stopped in to give it a whirl. The hoagies were not bad at all - they don't have a ton of meat on them, but I'm not one of those people who likes a ton of meat on my hoagie anyway so it suited me just fine. I also liked the ham, pepper jelly, and cream cheese on marbled rye (pepper jelly and cream cheese is a Southern thing in case ya'll didn't know!) but I thought it could use some crunch from lettuce or sweet onions or something. Also a Southern thing, I was excited to see pickle relish in the deviled eggs but while they were good, I think I detected some Miracle Whip in there - not really sure, but it just gave them a little bit of an off taste I didn't like. As for customer service, the people working there were all so friendly and accommodating. I'm glad I finally gave the place a try and will most likely stop in again sometime to try some of their other items. read more

There isn't one thing I don't love about Ithan Food Market. Chicken Pot Pie soooo yummy! The meats are so delicious, a little more expensive, yes, but the ground beef makes the best burger. Shrinkage is minimal. Meat from grocery store start out as a burger and ended up as a meatball after cooking, not Ithan's. Prepared foods are cooked with love and are so good. Bakery Goods, dangerous, they are so amazing. Oh and to top it all off, a grocery store with needed essentials, no facing the Giant! Love, love, love this store. I wanted to love this place! I've pulled in to pick up food a half dozen times in the last 5 years and they were always closed. On Saturday I stopped - hooray! 5 stars for gracious employees / owners, who wanted to tell me about their offerings and make suggestions, offer sample, etc. I got a medium chicken pot pie, as I had heard theirs was great. It was very good, an 8/10 of pot pie. Nice crust, although I would have liked a shallower pie with more crust to filling ratio. Filling was nicely flavored, but a bit too saucy. Veggies didn't feel frozen, as so many are. I got mac & cheese from the freezer case as it was on sale. Perhaps it was really old? Anyway, my 4 and 8 year olds each took a bite or two and refused the rest. :( I didn't like it much, either. Pasta was really soft, and the cheese had a slightly odd taste that none of us liked. I added some sharp cheddar and black pepper and finished my bowl, but c'mon, mac & cheese that the kids don't like?!? A 4/10. The wonderful Ithan Food Market is unique. Everything is fresher than fresh. A family run personal sevice mini-market that offers the best of everything available. I am a frequent and loyal customer and it's terriffic to be able to drive up, get what you need and be on your way in minutes without having to wind through the endless and ever-changing maze of aisles in the local supermarkets. They may be the last real butcher shop anywhere and everything from the finest steaks and chops to cold cuts and homemade sandwiches are the freshest and the best of the best. Though I've never had occasion to use it, I understand that they actually make home deliveries and I tell all my disbelieving friends to remember that when they are sick and stuck at home and need comfort supplies - like real homemade chicken soup and cookies!! I could go on for a page and I hope that others read this and enjoy this amazing little jewel and the lovely couple that manage it.
