We saw this place close to the water and decided to try it out as it was about to rain. I had a broccoli cheese soup with cheese bread and my friend had the beef casserole dish. Both dishes were delightful! It was a bit pricey, but to be fair, most of Queenstown is expensive. Meals at a restaurant like this will set you back about $20-$35NZ which is normal in this area. The service here wasn't that great - they are very slow. But with food that good, I can't complain. Food was 1/5 and service was 2/5. I had the steak, which had this relish atop it. The steak itself was cooked well but the relish along with all the add ons were overly seasoned and did not mend well together. However the bigger issue here was my wife's dish. She got the chicken. The chicken was super dry and had no crusted exterior (as described by the menu). The sausage on the side was straight out nasty. I tried some and it was ghastly. The server checked on us when the food first came and we both said we were fine because we had truly dived into our dishes. She did not return for 45 minutes and we had to call her attention so that we can explain my wife did not enjoy the chicken dish at all and we would like it to be taken off the bill. She comes back and says the manager is not allowing the item to be taking off the bill because it was a "personal preference". Lastly we went up to pay our bill and my wife spoke to the manager directly and said the specific things she disliked on the dish and the guy still doesn't take the item off the bill! Flew in to Queenstown and the hotel breakfast was unavailable that day so we went into town to get breakfast. To sum it up, this place has fantastic food with great view of the Remarkables - really creative name - and service to match. Breakfast is one of my favorite foods of the day because I never wake up early enough to enjoy it half the year. When I do wake up early enough to enjoy it, I enjoy breakfast that I can't just make myself at home. Throwing an egg on a plate with some bacon and potatoes is just lazy. We ordered two things: herbed corn and cheddar fritters and southern fried chicken and waffles. The pictures I uploaded really speaks for itself: just look at that juicy, thick streaky bacon. The herbed corn and fritters is nice and crunchy, not too doughy with just the right amount of filling given that there's no meat and it comes with a perfectly done side of poached egg. The fried chicken and waffles, admittedly, was not the best fried chicken I've ever had but the satisfying combination of crunchy waffles, chicken, and bacon is absolutely delicious. The jalapeno chutney was new though, since I've never really seen it served with a plate like that. Not too spicy, but sour enough to counteract some of the sweetness from the syrup glaze to really mesh with the whole dish. It's too bad that getting to Queenstown is really expensive. read more

We were walking around the area looking for a place to have brekkie and found Ivy & Lola's. So happy we did. It is decorated with a nostalgic almost 20's retro feel to it. Many old radios hung along the wall. It has a warm feel to it, which was very inviting. Now the food. 5 stars in my opinion. I ordered the -Smoked potato and feta croguette with poached eggs, baby spinach and roast mushrooms served on toasted brioche with hollandaise sauce ~ 18.9 -(husband) Smoked fish with traditional bubble and squeak with bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce ~ 18.9 We ate everything on our plates. We had a great sat brunch here. Ordered the smoked fish and French toast. Both excellent dishes. The smoked fish came with potato cake and poached eggs. The eggs were done just right - golden and slights runny. The French toast was topped with lots of fruits and mascarpone. Neither dishes were heavy, just right for brunch. Coffee - the flat whites were fine, just a tad more milk than I like and they use sugar cubes... but I am a coffee snob. It's really nitpicking now. The ambience was outstanding, nice gas fireplace in the middle with retro decoration. Topped with great service. Perfect place to chill out in Queenstown before the ride up the slopes or after. This place is fantastic. My wife and I ate here on one of our last nights in Queenstown. The restaurant has a very nice and relaxed atmosphere with a really cool collection of old radios on the wall. We loved the music that was playing and the staff was very friendly. I had a steak that was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the vegetables that came with it were delicious. Just what we needed after a big first day in Queenstown - great location right on the wharf, and nice service. Even though we arrived basically at 5pm, our waiter had us order off the Afternoon menu, which we appreciated because the prices were much more reasonable (not a knock against the restaurant, just typical for New Zealand and for lakeside in Queenstown in particular). I got the green-shelled mussels and my sister got the smoked seafood chowder. We both got fantastic garlicky toast to load it up on and split the lot - the apple cider sauce for the mussels was bright and briny and worked quite nicely. Way too many scallions on top but that's just a quibble, didn't detract from the meal at all, and the smart addition of the garlic toast meant that the mussels could be a full meal, since I find a lot of restaurants think that just mussels will fill someone up. The chowder was delicious - not too salty, plenty meaty and hearty. So glad we stopped here, and loved the dinner! read more

Great location on the 'wharf' in Queenstown, close enough to the marketplace on a weekend to hear some live music without it being too loud. We sat outside and they have umbrellas and a great lakeview. Prompt, friendly service with fantastic coffee! We lingered here longer than normal because it was such a great spot with good people watching. I went inside and the decor is fresh and funky and it had a beautiful bathroom (hey, it matters!). My husband had the big breakfast and I had the Smoked potato and feta croguette - it was outstanding! Not quite a full English, but close. My sister and I thought brunch was a better idea than a breakfast and a lunch, so we tried this for a change, and were not let down. I can't remember exactly what they called this breakfast, they didn't say that it was full English, but it was really just missing the white and black pudding, based on what I know about it. Otherwise, nice toasted crusty bread, tomato, mushrooms, beans, fried ham, and sort of hash brown patties. Not heart healthy, but completely satisfying and different from anything I'd had for breakfast thus far. Ivy & Lola's came with high praise, and is arguably considered Queenstown best breakfast spot by several food review sites. Naturally, when in Rome.... Its location is primo: smack-dab on the waterfront pier with a large, outdoor dining terrace, just across from a popular duck-feeding, grassy square, located in Queenstown's popular Steamer Wharf precinct. (The only negative is that Pier 19's privacy barricade around its outdoor space tends to block a head-on view of the dock and harbor. Nonetheless, the location is prime.) A couple of ubiquitous long blacks ($3.50 ea.) to start, was elevated by serving the espresso in a cup, and the hot water in its own small server -- something I've never had done since moving to Melbourne several months ago. That gave it an elegant and sophisticated presentation. My partner ordered the wildly popular Southern fried chicken and waffles (w/bacon, maple syrup & jalapeño chutney) ($17.90); I broke breakfast tradition and couldn't pass-up the smoked seafood chowder (w/hoki, clams and salmon) served with garlic toast ($16). Presented in a deep, small-sized bowl, the chowder arrived looking classy and chic, with its sprinkle of micro-greens atop, and complementing rustic garlic bread. The smell was ravishing! However, as wonderful its aroma, the flavor was a home-run! I&L's "New England-style" chowder is ladened with tasty and tender chunks of seafood. The seafood was worthy of Neptune, without doubt! It's one of those chowders that I will use as a litmus test for future models.... (My partner raved about his waffles and chicken, esp. about the jalapeño chutney. I had myself a bite and must concur that the chutney was quite amazing in flavor and heat. We told our waitress that they need to market this!) It appears that Ivy & Lola's high praise is well-warranted. No doubt I will have to update my review upon my future visits. I'd give this place a 5 star for service and view of the Remarkables. I also liked how here is an outdoor heat lamp and blankets for guests sitting outside. However the food at DINNER, I would give a 3 star, as it just was average (but not terrible and nicely presented). I ordered a few things off the menu: -mussel entree, which were marinated in a coconut curry sauce and was pretty good. The mussels were fairly large in size. -veggie side dish, which had boiled endives, some local carrots and pecans. This was really bland, which is to somewhat be expected. -scallop entree, which were laid on a bed of roasted cauliflower, were quite tiny and flavorless. I wish this was good and worth the money! -chicken main dish with Peri Peri sauce and corn fritters. The fritters were good because they were fried, chicken was a good portion but not that flavorful. -chocolate terrine dessert, which was very good and rich dark chocolate with nougats of honey...the best thing I ate on the menu. Visited several cafes in Queenstown, this one is highly recommended, because their service was really good and they located on beach road, where you can enjoy the amazing sunshine with your friend. I went here after a lake tour, and then I told the staff that I m waiting for my friend, so he served 2 glasses of water and did not push me to order something. However, I still had a chilli squid with Asian salad and an American pale ale to wash it down while waiting. It was a light lunch, which was best for a tired boat tour. My friend had the pork with pita bread and a cappuccino after coming, and she said it's tasty. So we may go here next time when we back to Queenstown. read more
