I have had meat regularly from Fernyhough's for many years. The range, quality, pricing, and service are superb. I very strongly recommend them. Bernard Beatty read more

This store is amazing. We were a bunch of Americans renting a place last Christmas in North Wales…read more I preordered an organic turkey, stuffing balls and the pork pies. When we got the shop we also bought quiches, gravy packets, and cranberry sauce. Everything was amazing. I just put butter, salt and pepper on the turkey and put it in an AGA (first time using one of those) and it came out perfect.
An excellent range of products which are tasty and innovative and well presented.read more

Best butchers in Cheshire!…read more Hygienic, high quality product; with a reliable, trustworthy, service. Simply the best!
One of the branches of this family-owned butchers located outside the city centre, we quite simply…read morehave not found better quality meat in Chester. As far as possible the firm sources its meat from local suppliers and can tell you where it comes from. The Christleton Road branch carries a reasonably wide range of cuts, and can bring in other cuts given a day or two's notice. Not the place to go if you want gimmicky marinades or fancy preparations. Buy the basic ingredients and make the dish up yourself! One small gripe - they like their gammon salty so we always soak it overnight before cooking.
This is the butchers my mum-in-law has always used. I have been living in the US for seven years…read morenow, and recently went to my in-laws' for Christmas. I was sent to Hoptons for meat. The quality and selection was so high I couldn't believe my eyes. You see, in America, there are no butchers. They've been barred by the government. Only huge conglomerates are allowed to sell meat. I was used to grey beef, people going around saying how great a "hot dog" was, and paying upwards of $25 for a small piece of grass-fed sirloin (Yankees feed cattle corn and a cocktail of hormones/chemicals so they get very fat quickly). These folks are proper tradesmen, who clearly care deeply about the quality of their meat and service. I've never tasted better bacon, steak, or sausages. I kept going back. And, unlike in America, I didn't need to take out a loan to buy some quality food- this seemed to be the norm! I noticed that, when queuing (in the rain) for quite a while to pick up our Christmas orders, everyone was smiling and very happy. No one complained, all were only excited to be getting the best meat in Cheshire. Such a treat. Its amazing to think that people here in the States constantly crack jokes about how terrible the food is in the UK, when a little butcher in Hoole produces food that would make any NYC Michelin-starred chef weep with jealousy. I am heading back the Chester soon, and you can bet my tea will include plenty of cuts from Hopton's.

A pretty large Tesco store in Chester town centre, at Frodsham Square…read more Due to COVID-19 and managing the number of people in the store, the entrance is a mess right now, one of the back entrances, just off the high street and next to Boots is currently not open, there is no signage to find the main store entrance from there, it only states to walk through a car-park which I also couldn't find, I ended up going away only to find this store by chance on my way home to the train station. They really should offer a street map if they are going to close a main entrance to the public. The selection in most areas was okay, especially the fish and meat counters where the selection was extensive. I did find the toiletries selection to be rather poor, they seemed to have replaced a whole section with overpriced giftsets, meaning toiletries and skincare items you'd find in pretty much any other supermarket weren't stocked here, which was a real shame. I get gift-sets are good Christmas ideas, but why should that mean the items which would usually be sold outside of these overpriced gift-sets not be sold at all? I did find the staff member a little unhelpful, he was standing right next to me (and seemed to be avoiding me) as I struggled to type my Clubcard number into the scan and go machine as it kept freezing. 3* - Large supermarket in the town centre of Chester, although it can be a nightmare to get in and there are multiple other flaws with the store which means it wouldn't be my first choice supermarket to visit if I return to Chester.

Its also a great place to go to get those last minute gifts you forget about. they have sweetie gift sets made up, and some hampers, all at reasonable prices. these are usually seasonable so for example, at halloween, you can find little sets with halloween sweets and the same at christmas. It may be quite a small store, but the vast array of different kinds of sweets more than makes up for the cramped surroundings. the staff are really friendly and know everything there is to know about their sweets. which is ideal if you are buying fro someone with allergies.
Variety of chocolates - yum!
