The food was incredible. Lots of flavor and well put together! I'm weird about fish and the redfish was flavored to perfection. Their French fries are my favorite! Shoe string but still tender and crispy on the outside! We took our 20month old daughter for the first time and weren't sure if they had a kids menu but our wonderful server let us know they did and even offered to bring hers out as soon as it was ready so she could start eating! We love this location and will be back!

Big entre salads ! Nice cocktails and finish with the famously good carrot cake ! My wife's chicken salad would be even better with only half as many corn tortillas strips in it . My Alex's salad with salmon was perfect. Happy hour food n drinks only if seated at the bar 4-6 pm m-F . See pic . Upscale bar environment ! Excellent service. The artichoke app was interesting but not worth repeating..

BLUF: CHECK YOUR MOBILE ORDERS. Raw food. Sour food. I really remember when I first came here and the food was consistently delicious. At one point, I was spending well over $50 at least twice a week at this establishment. As time has passed, I have seen the managers come and go here and while they are kind, and the more recent times, I'm not sure what is going on, but seems like Their job has become more trying. Soy Yen was one of the most kindest, compassionate hostesses. She was one of the reasons that I continued to come back and spend my money here, in addition to the very kind and hard-working managers and waitresses/waiters that I was able to experience. I'm not sure what has specifically happened logistically, but these days, the orders are more inconsistent when doing takeouts. The last couple of times I sat in the restaurant, it was OK, there were some things I had to send back as well, but I will say they were fixed. More recently, I ordered a couple of things and received a completely raw burger that look like it just came off of the cow. My potato was so acidic and bitter, it was sour. I quickly called and management quickly handled and reimbursed me for my burger. I was really honestly not Sure why the entire order could not be reimbursed. This experience came short after I had another order previously and it took 45 minutes for me to receive bread on my to go order. I could go into a rabbit hole with that experience, but I'll leave it there. What I was told was that three hours before closing, the workers had thrown out the remainder of the bread and had to bake fresh bread. The inconsistencies are too often. Not really sure how long it will be before I return, but it's very unfortunate because I truly love this place. Just asking others to ensure that they check their mobile orders before they pick up and takeoff. And for a manager to express that there must've been a mixup and that is why my burger was completely raw, as I'm sure he is very overwhelmed with a full packed house, that was probably not the best solution to the issue.

I kind of hate to leave 2 stars because the food was okay, but...considering everything else, I just don't think I can justify a 3. I arrived for a late lunch last Wednesday. I'd had a long and challenging couple of weeks but felt I'd triumphed; I was in the area, finished with work, and thought why not reward myself with something special? This upscale restaurant is located near enough to the Trash Pandas stadium that you can hear the music/announcements from the spacious parking lot. Wonder if that would be disruptive during an outdoor meal? Idk, I sat inside. The restaurant looks even larger on the inside than the outside. It's pretty, modern, and clean, but perhaps a little generic looking and, I feel, a tiny bit on the casual-side -- at least in comparison to the price point. I'm not usually so critical about this kind of stuff, but...well, I'll get there. The hosts are stationed to your right as you walk in. They weren't super busy but it took them a moment or two to acknowledge me. Once greeted, they suggested I could sit at the bar since I was dining solo, or I could have a booth. I requested a booth and they seemed veryyyy slightly miffed, but took me to one anyway. One thing I noticed while perusing the menu is the restaurant is LOUD. They were maybe at like 15% capacity and it wasn't the quiet, intimate affair I expect of fancier restaurants. Perhaps it feels more romantic/decadent at night with candles lit, but it felt once again pretty generic and informal during the daylight. My waitress was...very lackluster. Not rude, but distinctly curt and didn't seem super interested in ensuring I had a pleasant visit. I had to wait for my meal to be delivered just so I could ask for a straw for my drink. She never once asked if I liked my food, needed anything else, wanted a dessert, etc. Only machine-like delivery of beverage and entree. Worse, I was very thirsty and drained my tea quite quickly; no refill was forthcoming until I'd all but finished my meal, despite her making eye contact with me at least twice. Again, I swear I'm usually not a jerk or even very particular about lackluster service; I understand the industry is difficult and unforgiving and I try to be as patient and generous as I can. But...this price point really feels like more attention should be warranted. One big complaint for me is that there's no lunch menu here; all full-dinner prices all the time. Still, I was determined to get the complete experience because I didn't know if I'd come back or not, so I ordered the steak and fries with a sweet tea to drink. I enjoyed my tea except for my inability to get a timely refill. My food arrived quickly and was clearly cooked fresh. The steak was slightly closer to a medium-well than the medium I ordered, which I honestly thought was pretty funny given their dogged insistence that they won't cook well-done steaks. The fries were crispy and plentiful. The steak was tender enough but not remarkably so; the most notable thing about it was that it was quite salty -- probably from the maitre d butter they used to finish it. Again -- it was not intolerably salty -- but paired with the fries, it only further increased my need for more tea. Overall, I'd say the food was good. I enjoyed it. But it was maybe only 15% better than a good Outback steak experience, at far more than double the price. My meal -- entree and non-alcoholic beverage only + 18% tip -- was only just shy of $50. For lunch. For one person. Again, there was nothing overtly bad about my experience. But if I'm really going to pay ~$50 for a meal (at lunch!!), it really, really needs to WOW on all fronts. And I can't say that J. Alexander's did. It's unlikely I'll find my way back here again, given the infrequency at which I do ~fancy~, but perhaps others will have a more positive experience than me.

We went here for my birthday dinner. This was my first time at this restaurant chain. One note: for some dumb reason they do not allow any kind of balloons in the restaurant. My husband had gotten a balloon centerpiece for my birthday and they confiscated it. They did accommodate him dropping off a cake ahead of time and brought it out after we were done eating. The food was excellent. I got the deviled eggs and steak braze special. The proportions were huge. I had a side salad that was large enough to be an entree. My friends ordered the queso appetizer and it was fantastic! Everyone's food was great. I would definitely come back, but disappointing about the balloons.

Gotta say, I rarely order a full steak when eating out, I enjoy them occasionally but only because I don't like making them at home. Still, this place left me underwhelmed. I joined a friend for her birthday dinner, and had a great time with friends, service was good, and the menu had a decent selection to choose from. We were happy to try this place for the first time, and I think everyone really loved their food, and mine was fine but that's about it. The place looks nice, and it's very dark, but it didn't really feel as upscale as others have mentioned. It's a lovely place, but not uppity enough to call it upscale, but it's Huntsville, nothing here is truly upscale. I ordered the steak Maui, which is a marinated ribeye, cooked medium rare. It had a decent flavor in the marinade, but it was a bit chewy, and even had a big chunk of cartilage not noticeable because of the sauce initially. I have had ribeye before, so even as not a steak person, I am familiar with this cut. The "smashed" (mashed) potatoes were good but average. The food was alright, but for $44 for the entree alone I wouldn't return. The non steak options sounded great but being a steakhouse I felt I had to try the steak, and it didn't wow me.

Thos particular location of J. Alexander's is in the trendy Madison entertainment area. I am continuously amazed at the insanely rapid growth of this area and now they have a J. Alexander's. The vibe here is attractive and upscale in a laid-back kind of way. The staff here is attentive, friendly and professional. The food here is very good (but it is priced a but high). All in all, UT is a good option and definitely reflective of the positive direction of the growth of Madison, Alabama.

Food was very good and the service was top notch but the atmosphere is why people come here . It's a great , romantic spot for a date night or any special occasion that may occur . I got the pork chop which was thick and cooked over a wood grill very well cooked and presented . I got Hong Kong shrimp which was very good and would reccomend as a starter . "Not Well Done...but that is good" They essentially won't make medium well or well done steaks. First time I've seen in writing. The bang bang shrimp was good, the queso dip was a bit weak too runny. The flounder fish special was ok. The Maui steak seemed to be marinated in teriyaki and had a good flavour. The filet mignon was ordered medium rare but was presented as medium. A total bummer. The Arnold Palmer ice tea was horrific as it essentially was mostly lemonade. The chocolate cake was huge and very sweet. Price points were very good. I might return. read more

Eat there for lunch on our anniversary and was pleasantly surprised with whole meal. I'm not a fan of pricey places but this was worth it that day. Once in great while for me. Server and manager were great as was the food. read more

We went last night with our friends and it was so much better than our first experience. We ordered the special of the week which was the Tuscan steak...SO DELICIOUS. Well seasoned and cooked perfectly. My husband had the pork chop & the seasonal corn. The seasonal corn was absolutely delicious. I wish I would've ordered it after tasting it. Our friends had filets and they said that both were cooked great! We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was great, I believe our server was Sadie. Sadie told us about the Oregon wine and it was so fabulous we ended up ordering a bottle. Just such a fun night with friends!!! We got dessert just to extend the evening. read more

Food was very good, I had New York strip, I asked for med rare but it was closer to medium. Still tasty. The Cajun swordfish was amazing. Drinks were on par. The service was Meh, both bartenders were unfriendly and inattentive acted as if they really did not want to be there. We will return because we like the menu, hopefully the service will improve. read more

Really interesting experience tonight. I've been to several J Alexander's in Nashville other places and we stopped into this one tonight in Madison Alabama. I ordered a dirty vodka martini with three olives and they brought it out. After a couple of sips, it just didn't taste right so I asked for more Olive juice and they brought me this little container of what they thought was juice. I poured some in and kept sipping it and then poured the rest of it in. I realized they didn't give me all the juice they gave me simple syrup. When I called the girl over and I was sitting at the bar, I said I can't drink this. This is not all juice and she goes. Oh gosh, you're right. Then we ordered the blistered tomatoes. They came out and they were completely cold in the middle. We ate them because they were still really good but then I asked the girl are they supposed to be served hot or cold and she said oh my gosh they are supposed to be served hot. Anyway, when the bill came, she had not taken that nasty martini off my bill and I said why not she said well you drink half of it, and I did not drink half of it, but for her to say that after she made a mistake with the drink, I thought was quite rude. Not to mention the cold tomatoes.. I don't know who's handling managing duties on Sunday night at the bar but they're not doing a very good job with their employees read more

My wife had a Filet; I had a brinned chicken dish. The filet was cooked properly. Perhaps could have been a touch more tender. My chicken was very good but I really didn't get the "brinned in pickle juice" flavor I was promised but still very tender and moist. The true star of the meal was the Hong Kong shrimp appetizer. Touted as "just like Bang Bang Shrimp" of Binefish Grill fame which we've been promised before at other establishments. This version did not miss the mark. The flavor was a complete replication BUT was a touch spicier which I adored. The pile of shrimp was huge; perhaps 3 dozen shrimp. Flavor was spectacular! Service was on par too. All in all J.Alexander's was what we had hoped for. Didn't try any desserts but maybe next time. We were on a baseball trip to Huntsville but there is a unit in this chain in Birmingham, our home town. Haven't been there in years but that will change soon. read more

I have found the place to get a ribeye. Maui Ribeye had a hint of sweetness which I like, cooked a perfect medium. Buttery and just a great steak. I previously reviewed the filet here which was okay, but like some places you go to for one thing, this is it. Will absolutely get this again. Service was really just okay. Really enjoy the atmosphere and bar area here, definitely will come back for date night. read more

Me and my wife ate there yesterday and it was not a go first time experience. Place is beautiful but the Manger Angie or Angela needs a lot of training. The drinking runner from the bar wasted my wife drink on me and the table. I leave to go to rest room and come back nothing was whipped up. So I went to the bar to get some whips; drink runner, the bar tender and another person was down at the bar having funny why we needed our table cleanup. Then the so call manger comes to table acting like there's no care in the world about what happen. I really wish a higher up could really reprimand her. The good part about it was our server was so professional. She told me she was from the Birmingham J . Alexander's and it showed. VERY VERY Disputed Huntsville Location. read more

We are a huge fan of J Alexander's! We were so excited to try the one right down the road from us. Excellent service as always. Food was fresh and quickly prepared. We were a little disappointed they didn't have there iconic rattle snake pasta since they are a new restaurant. But looking forward to trying again in the future! We visited for a working lunch, this was also my first visit. I must say I was very impressed with this place. The service, the atmosphere, the food, all were amazing. I highly recommend going if you have never been. We had a couple orders of the deviled eggs and queso dip. They were both great. I chose the steak tacos and they were amazing too. They have a bit of spicy kick to them, I don't remember what it that's is in them, but I like it! Everyone in our party was very pleased with what they had. I was pleasantly surprised to see J. Alexander in Madison. My sister and dined here on Friday night. The atmosphere was nice, the service was good and the food was tasty. We tried several of the specials including the salmon dip (AWESOME!), Pomegranate Martini (delicious) and the swordfish (large portion and tasty). We also had the trout And deviled eggs. Everything was good and our waitress Lindsey made the dining experience unforgettable. Parking...very convenient read more

The environment is upscale casual. The menu is not overwhelming and has just enough options for all diners. Our waiter, Kevin, was very knowledgable regarding the menu. It is a great comfort knowing that our waiter has tried majority of the foods being offered. The daily specials were offered by a print out menu with detail ingredients. The emerald coast shrimp appetizer we ordered was on point. The shrimp came out perfectly fried (not over cooked) and the two sauces that accompanied the shrimp was delicious. The shrimp portion served on the appetizer was a generous portion. I ordered the fish tacos off the daily menu. My husband ordered the steak burger. All good was amazing. This is a nice gem in Madison. We will back soon. read more

First time at this location and apparently it is newly opened. The staff were very accommodating and on point. An all out effort in making sure that this visit was pleasant and memorable. My all time favorite is the pork chop dinner, which I ordered, and I was no way in the least disappointed . At our table we had the quest dip, A Cypress salad and a NY strip all were delicious.. on the list for another visit. We all had food to take home.. read more

First time here. Started out great but once we got our food we never saw our waiter again. When the runner brought my daughters food he plopped the plate on the table and the stack for fries fell everywhere (not on the plate). He said oops and walked away. Food was okay. It wasn't great. Drinks were meh. Waiter described the wrong drink and when we got it he didn't fix it. Never refilled our water. It was Mothers Day and surprised they didn't have a true Mothers Day Brunch. Not sure if we will back. Just disappointed with dining as a whole in Huntsville. Seems to be a common theme.... read more

John R and I celebrated our Anniversay last night at J. Alexander's in Madison. I made our reservation through Resy and they asked if there was a special occasion so I told them it was our Anniversary. They brought us a sweet Anniversary card to the table. As appetizers, we had the Deviled Eggs and House Salad with Cilantro Lime Dressing. I had the Ahi Tuna with Beefsteak Tomatoes with olive oil and basil, and Smashed Potatoes. John had the Bleu Cheese Filet with a Loaded Baked Potato and the Lemon Reggiano Broccoli. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious! We have eaten at this J. Alexander's about 10-12 times since it opened, and it is long overdue that we leave a review. Full disclosure, we have historically stopped to eat at the J. Alexander's that are located in both Franklin, TN (Cool Springs Galleria area) and Hoover, AL (Riverchase Galleria area) whenever we have driven thru these areas. So, we have always been fans of the food offerings at J. Alexander's. In fact, we took our whole family to the new J. Alexander's restaurant in Madison the first week that it opened. But why are we fans? Well, first and foremost, the food is consistently cooked and served at an "above average to exceptional" range. It is consistently "great", and I cannot remember being disappointed. J. Alexander's has a menu that caters to everybody. The environment is upscale, yet the atmosphere maintains a casual & comfortable feel. The service is excellent, and the staff always appears to be "happy" to serve you. I cannot stress how important a positive attitude is when you go out to eat dinner. The best comparison that I can make when describing the entire J. Alexander's organization is that it is similar to Chick-fil-A. Everybody has a great attitude, and the food quality is fresh and very consistent. Obviously, J. Alexander's isn't a fast food restaurant, so that is the major difference. So, if you frequently find yourself navigating the logistical madness of a Chick-fil-A drive-thru, and you are interested in taking your wife out to dinner at a restaurant that will not disappoint, I highly recommend J. Alexander's. Some of our favorites menu items are: Spinach Con Queso (every time we go) Mr. Jacks's Crispy Chicken (kids' fave) Alex's Salad (w/Honey Dijon dressing) + add chicken, salmon or shrimp The burgers are great The steaks are great The salmon is great My boys LOVE the french fries My wife LOVES the carrot cake The only thing that I've ever been disappointed with at J. Alexander's is that they have forgotten to pack our extra honey dijon dressing that we have ordered a couple of times on "to go orders". We always order extra honey dijon dressings because it is addictive. We wish they'd bottle the honey dijon dressing and commercially sell it at grocery stores! read more

A nice casual restaurant. The service was great and the food was good. I had the New York Strip and my wife had the Prime Rib. Both tasted good, although mine was cooked a little more on the medium side vice medium-rare as I had ordered. The macaroni and cheese was good and the chocolate cake was very good with a more dense and moist texture than typical cake. read more

Love this place!! Bartenders are top tier, Frankie, Collin, & Jaycie always make us feel so welcome and special. The bar is beautiful and the restaurant is always clean. Went for dinner last night, and were overall happy. Our waitress was very kind and helpful! A few things didn't pan out exactly as hoped-- We were sat and not given silverware. After receiving our starting salads, I went to ask for silverware. There was none currently available. It wasn't until after they brought our entrees that we were able to get any utensils. So unfortunately our entrees were cold when we were finished with the salads. There were some glasses that were dropped and shattered near us--which nobody could plan for or intend to happen. But the vacuuming next to our table wasn't ideal as far as the ambiance goes--as well as the server who was twerking in the corner. Definitely not what I expected at an upscale restaurant. We'll try again on another night, though. read more

We had one of the best dining experiences last night! Sadie, our server, truly made the evening -- she may have been the best server we've ever had. She was cheerful, polite, and absolutely spot-on with her recommendations. My wife ordered the Pecan-Crusted Trout, one of her favorites, and it did not disappoint. I couldn't help myself, I had the Prime Rib again, and it was outstanding. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. We were also impressed to see they now offer a wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. Sadie did a wonderful job helping us choose great dinner wine pairings as well. LuLu, the manager on duty, stopped by our table to chat for a moment. She was warm and friendly, and it was a thoughtful touch to personally make sure we were being well taken care of.
