Prime Rib 12 oz
Elias L.

My mother and I frequent J&Rs specifically for their prime rib lunch special. It is now $15.99 for a good slice of juicy prime rib cooked to your liking. Soup/salad, drink, and a cheesecake slice can be added for a $7 upcharge. On this outing we maintained the status quo, 2 orders of prime rib medium rare, mine with their cilantro lime rice and hers with creamed spinach. The prime rib was juicy, easy to cut through and chew, with a nicely seasoned outer crust. Not that it needs it but I like how it pairs with their homemade steak sauce as well. The rice surprised me. It seems to me that restaurants struggle at putting out a respectable rice yet this one managed, I will be having their rice with my prime rib from now on. I did taste some creamed spinach and I liked it as well. It's not overly rich therefore retaining that spinach taste but it's also not enough to be bitter, complimenting the meat well. J&R's deserves their flowers. Offering fair pricing for a steakhouse, good specials, and being involved in their community. I haven't had one of their legendary marinated steaks in long while but I might just have to sooner rather than later.

My husband and I were here visiting family, and they recommended this local steakhouse. It's definitely a more casual steakhouse. We sat at a high top table in the bar area. The bar tender/server was super friendly and very attentive. We came on a Friday during lunch so we got their lunch specials, which were a great a deal. They also had BOGO appetizers. We got a Caesar salad and onion straws for apps. The salad was fine, nothing special. The onion straws were delicious, and it was a massive serving. I also loved the spicy horseradish sauce that came with it. The BBQ sauce, not so much. My husband and I both got the prime rib lunch special. The prime rib was delicious; my fries were okay. My husband got the broccoli with cheese for his side, but the cheese did not look great. His steak was also way overdone, but they quickly corrected that and brought him a new one. To drink, I got the rainbow cookie martini. It was so good! Sweet, but not overwhelmingly so.

Great spot for a well priced, quality meal. I loved the surf and turf combo options since it gives you a great taste of steak and fish. The strip steak was a nice size, and the marinade was flavorful. Service was good, food came out quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was cozy, and was filled with a lot of local customers![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will definitely be going back for future meals, and will definitely take advantage of whatever deals and specials are being offered!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We ended up at J&Rs for lunch time and were sat at a high top table in the bar area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have traditional tables in the dining room and then the bar area has bar seating and high top tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The lunch specials were great and came at a great price. The service was ok, because our server was also making drinks for the entire restaurant and serving the bar and the tables. Overall he did a great job in doing it all, but having the bartender as your server can create delays in ordering and in attentiveness to all of the parties in the establishment. Their dinner specials are usually so delicious and flavorful so I will be back but maybe I'll sit on the dining room next time.

Went on a recommendation. Good thing I made it a late lunch place was busy at 2 pm. The service was a tad bit slow maybe waitress was new?? The prime rib special was good potatoes very bland but the star of the show was the cheesecake. Had it plain so I could get the full experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place reminds me of a Midwest steak house for $25. It was worthwhile[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Came here without knowing much about this place. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! From the service to the decor to the whole vibe and food, I would definitely recommend ! We got the steak, ribs, and shrimp. Everything was great! The drinks too! I would recommend this place if you're in the area!

J&R is our favorite restaurant in Islip. We love Kathy who is always our favorite person to help us when we're there. She's very attentive as well as the other staff members. We are always very welcomed when we walk in especially on Sundays after church. Our favorite is the calamari which is second to none. The food is excellent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is sweet and quiet, and we always get our favorite spot[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Ate dinner with a large group here tonight (including children) and was pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly, consistent and quick. They had some wonderful promotions including BOGO apps and kids eat free which our group gladly took advantage of. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, onion strings, coconut shrimp and potato skins. Many in our party got steaks which were cooked exactly as they specified. I got the Connecticut lobster roll. For the price, the amount of food was excellent. But honestly the salad was disappointing (a bunch of lettuce with one slice of tomato and one cucumber). The lobster was flavorful and fresh and the French fries had the perfect crunch! My only wish? Where was the butter for my lobster roll?

As mentioned they try to offer fresh, seasonal apps, handhelds, salads and entrees. The protein entree options only offer two to three chicken, pork, steak, seafood selections along with a couple of pasta infused dishes. They have a full bar, so if a beer or cocktail is wanted you do have options there as well. The Mr selected the Chilled Shrimp & Crab Stack, but eliminated the hard boiled egg aspect and thought it was light, tasty and refreshing. I opted for the Faroe Salmon with shrimp that came accompanied/on top of a risotto and peas. I thought cooked medium was perfect making it soft and fork flaky to mix along together. It was a very juicy sizable piece making it very filling. We didn't have time for a dessert, but noted they did have a few offerings there. Also noted they had very well kept mens/woman's and family restroom with baby changing table. Thanks! Would highly recommend this location to others.

Baked clams are my "litmus test" for Italian restaurants, and theirs are in my top 10. Their menu is insane! So many choices, so many specials each day, and a huge assortment of desserts. If you cannot find something to eat, there is something wrong. The bar area is very small, so don't plan on spending too much time there before you get seated. Their staff is attentive without being annoying, and their dining room is large and welcoming. Once seated, you are greeted with complimentary bruschetta and their ample bread basket. Two things I recommend ordering are their clams and if you eat rabbit, definitely get theirs when it is offered. Portions are huge and the quality of seafood is always fresh. They have a small lot in the rear of the restaurant, with both a rear and front entrance. There is also street parking available (do NOT park in the bank lot across the street--you will get towed).

The wait staff acted like we were a bother to them. They were cold and distant, and did not make us feel welcome. The food was just OK. We spent $300 with tip and the service and food did not meet up to this expectation. It was a Tuesday night and it was quiet in the restaurant.

We would have sat in the main dining room but there was a private group in there so we sat at the bar. So glad we did. Our server / bartender Nicole welcomed us immediately and took our drink orders. We each ordered burgers and shared an order of onion rings. Our burgers came perfectly prepared (rare) and the fries were crispy and delicious. The onion rings were a huge portion and were equally good. For what we ordered the bill was more than reasonable, the food great for bar food and our server, Nicole, was outstanding. Served with Hound fries LOBSTER TRAP Creamy lobster mac and cheese finished with toasted old bay panko. Topped with a double smash burger on a toasted brioche bun, candied bacon, sharp cheddar, pickled red onions and an Old Bay roasted garlic aioli. Crispy onions and scallions I chose the Cuban and when they say Colossal they meant it. It could easily feed 2 even 3 people. The pork was outstanding, the ham a bit overcooked and warning the cherry pepper relish has a real kick so if you're not into spicy be ware. The fries were shoestring with their signature seasoning blend. I took home more then half. Once the bingo started it cleared out a bit but still busy. I hope some they put some of the other specials back on the menu as I'd like to try all of the above.

They were probably the best stuffed jalapeños we've had. It also came with a good sauce to dip. For my entree I ordered the bbq shrimp. It came with a choice of two sides. I went with Caesar salad and collard greens. Both were good. When we were done I realized it didn't come with cornbread as the menu stated. We were already done, so I didn't mention it. My boyfriend had the smokehouse lasagna. He really enjoyed it and the portion was huge. We also added sausage as we wanted to try it. It was just okay. I wouldn't get the sausage again. After we got home I looked at the menu again as I thought the bill was a little high. My suspicions were correct. We charged more than what the menu says. For the piggy poppers we were charged $18, when the menu says $15. The smokehouse lasagna is priced at $26 and we were charged $27. Not really sure what happened here. It was a decent lunch. Just slightly disappointed about the price discrepancies and not getting cornbread.
