Wow! I am shocked at the posting of the unsatisfied customer. My husband and I hired Bryant to design our dream home and he exceeded our expectations on every point. The time we spent with him going over our thoughts were so helpful because he understood our goals and then guided us to achieve them. He brought so much to the table that we never even thought about. Bryant also has quite an education in "green" or LEED building and was so up to date on the latest trends and what worked and didn't work. My husband and I would do our research on the web and then bring our thoughts to him. Bryant very professionally described the technology we were interested in and went through all of the pros, cons and ROI. Every time, he was spot on. I am a professional in Georgetown and I know a lot of the same people that know Bryant. The person that posted a negative review described someone that is NOT Bryant Boyd. It is SO SAD that one person can say something about someone that I, and every person I know that has worked with Bryant, consider THE GOLD STANDARD in innovation, education and service. Previous poster, I am sorry that you had this experience with the designing of your home, but are you sure you are talking about the same architect that I have only heard raving reviews from dozens of colleagues? I will tell you this, Bryant was clear on the time and fees of his work so when we sat down with him, my husband and I spent much time in preparation and thought throughout the stages of the design. I do not believe in blaming others for my own lack of preparation or indecision after the fact. I can not imagine investing in such a critical asset such as your home and not spending the time walking through every aspect of the drawings mentally over and over. Knowing our experience, I do not think any architect would have pleased you. It is just a SHAME that you are smearing one of the greatest Architects in our region. Yes, I'm a big fan of this firm. They are very easy to work with and very reasonable in pricing considering the quality of work. Most of all, the people in this firm represent high moral character and ethical behavior which is most important to me. It is in their best interest to do so as they are involved in the community and rely on having a good reputation. He and his firm have never disappointed us. One very important thing to remember with working with any architect is that the better you know what you want and need, the better & cheaper it is to do business with an architect. Despite what one would think, you can't hire any architect firm and expect them to read your mind and have everything just perfect. You must be prepared before your first meetings and the better prepared you are the better they can fulfill your dreams. The FACTS: We did a huge expansion project and our fees to Boyd were only $1500. That is Awesome! We did our research and talked a lot up front (in the initial consultation) and only did 2 drawing revisions. The project was completed on time and on budget. No changes to the plans had to be made during the entire build because it was planned properly from the start. I have a feeling that the folks that had a (1) negative experience did not have a good idea what they wanted or at least did not do research up front to find out what they wanted or they had ideas that did not fit well into the grand scheme. If you are thinking about doing a project, go to as many houses you can and measure everything. Figure out, what size of closet is right for us, what size of baths, and every aspect you can to discover what you really want. Then the firm can take these inputs and make it a cohesive plan. Too many people go wrong when they try to do off the wall ideas that don't fit into the grand plan. They want tall doors when the ceilings are only 8 feet high etc... and then when it doesn't look right, they blame the architect or builder. Investing our time, expectations, and visions of a dream home with Bryant Boyd was a brilliant choice and outstanding return on money spent. When challenged with a difficult to build on sloped and large tree covered lot, Bryant exceeded expectations. When challenged by my wife to design a gourmet kitchen incorporating her ideas of open space and usage and grand kitchen features, Bryant exceeded expectations. Recent Outdoor Living Area Addition My wife and I recently had the opportunity to add an outdoor living area to our house of 19 years. On the recommendation from a friend in the building trades, we hired Bryant Boyd to design and provide build to spec drawings. He and his staff were very easy to work with throughout the entire process. When it came time to solicit bids, we included Bryant Boyd along with two other well known and highly recommended builders. He was the only one who arrived with every one of the associated building trades and he was the lowest bidder. AND not only was everything completed ahead schedule but to my surprise, when all of the incremental billings came in, it was under cost. Throughout the construction process, Bryant and or the project supervisor came by each day (sometimes more than once a day) to make sure every process was running smoothly. We too are surprised by the negative comments posted earlier. We hired Bryant to design our Georgetown home while we were living in Belgium. Hence our initial communication was long distance by phone, Internet and mail. We communicated back and forth for six months before our return to the USA. Not a single problem despite the long distance relationship. Eventually we relocated to Georgetown and continued our planning on a face-to-face basis. At one point we had to stop for six months because of the stock market collapse in 2008. Again, not a problem. When we resumed, Bryant made the adjustments that we requested to make construction more affordable. After breaking ground with San Gabriel Construction (a high quality builder with integrity), Bryant continued to monitor progress on the home and work with the builder to resolve the inevitable issues that arise once construction is underway. My husband and I hired Bryant and his firm in 2008 to design a lake house on Lake LBJ that (1) blend in with the surrounding area and (2) provide a warm and welcoming home for our family to enjoy. He listened carefully to our ideas, wishes and restrictions and quickly responded with a hill-country craftsman design that met these various requirements .I appreciated that Bryant visited the site and made recommendations to us on various placements of the house in relation to an existing boat house, bulkhead and large trees that I didn't want to lose. I have been building homes in the Georgetown area for the last ten years and have always found Bryant to be a trusted resource for design work.
