We hired Stanley Custom Builders to complete a garage construction project under a written…read morecontract. We paid the contracted amount in full, expecting the agreed-upon work to be completed. Unfortunately, the project was abandoned before completion. Despite having been paid, the contractor did not complete the contracted work, and we experienced significant problems with communication, scheduling, and getting the project finished. There were also issues during the project involving workers, tools, materials, and work that remained incomplete. We made numerous attempts to communicate and give the contractor an opportunity to fulfill his contractual obligations, but the project still was not completed. We have documentation supporting our experience, including the contract, payment records, photographs, messages, and records of work performed. We have since had to pursue other avenues to address the situation, including filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and looking into the appropriate licensing and legal processes. I am sharing this review because I believe potential customers deserve to know about our firsthand experience before hiring a contractor. This review is not based on hearsay or someone else's experience--it is based on what happened to us. I sincerely hope Stanley Custom Builders takes responsibility for the unfinished work and resolves the matter appropriately.

I'd had enough of the babysitting. There were multiple times during the project he had to redo what had been done because of not measuring correctly and not completing the part like we'd asked. They made a mess walking through our house and constantly left the back door open on hot days. Every night we had flies in the kitchen because he was too lazy to close the door behind him. We have damage to our bathtub, our vanity, chips in the unfinished floor, multiple leaks left by his plumber, and the list goes on. We had paid him for 85% of the job, and when I asked him to pay me some of the money back, he told me "Jacob, if you want money back from me, you can take me to court," and sped out of my driveway. Beware of the big talk he puts on up front, because he cannot follow it up with his work.

We requested quotes from 2companies. JC (SHR owner) had his quote completed and sent to me within 48hrs. I tried waiting for the other company to return their quote to compare, but after 2weeks, I simply couldn't wait any longer...and am so thankful we didn't. JC was extremely transparent throughout the entire process, from the in-home estimate to the post-project review. During the in-home estimate, he laid out the project as a whole and each sequential step within the project to better help us with expectation management. The fact that he did this shows he understands, and has, a concern for his clients/customers being informed & satisfied and how to avoid any possible miscommunications. His ability to anticipate client's inevitable irritation at losing their "space" drives his commitment to transparency and ensuring his clients that he is moving as fast as he can given the unavoidable logistical factors/concerns. After each day he would he would explain what happened that day and what was coming up for the next day. Anything that would be further out than the next day, he inform us of that date as well. When his employees completed their task(s), he would swing by again to ensure quality work was done and would have his assistant record any & all "touch ups" for them to complete the next day to ensure quality work and his employees always followed through. Ray and Rachel (employees) were always on time and had the greatest attitudes, not to mention their skills were top shelf. He used a sub for tile installment named Brandon and that dude was the most professional "tile guy" I've ever encountered. He LOVES his job and will tell you about it too! Lol! Knowing that the people working on your home love what they do and are very good at it, means the homeowner(s) can rest easy knowing they're getting quality work. It's also a reflection of JC and his high business acumen, showcasing his ability to create and sustain great business relationships with other skilled tradesmen/tradeswomen in his field. No one ever abused our house or our time or were short with us...they were people I would actively conversate with if I saw them out in public.
