This morning I called to book a BIAB nail application and a pedicure, just like the photo I sent …read more They said, "Sure, we can do that." The lady spent about an hour on my nails, but she didn't clean my cuticles properly. I asked her to make them look clean, but she barely touched them. She applied two layers of clear base and then two layers of a nude milky shade -- which looked nothing like what I had asked for. The result: bulky gel around the cuticles, uneven application, and one nail that wasn't even shaped round. When I pointed out that one nail looked off, she said, "Your finger isn't even." Her command of English was poor, which made it hard to explain what I wanted. I skipped pedicure cause I expected it will be a disaster. Since I had to rush to another appointment, I left but later called back to complain. I explained that I was unhappy with the result and that this wasn't BIAB. The man I spoke to told me to come back so they could redo it. When I returned, I explained again that the nails were bulky, uneven, and nothing like what I had asked for. They didn't seem to understand me, and he said, "She did a good job. I can remove it if you like, but we don't do BIAB color." I was shocked -- why didn't they tell me that in the morning before taking the booking? In the end, he removed the top layer, told me to wash my hands, gave me back my money, and left me with cracked, unfinished layers still on my nails. They weren't cleaned, smooth, or wearable. Overall: a complete waste of time, unprofessional, misleading, and the worst nail experience I've ever had.

I strayed from my Yelp Only Edinburgh adventures for one very crucial reason:…read more Doctor Who Nails. Diana saved me from a fate of boring nails. On any given day, my ring fingers are Who themed. From the Darleks to The Silence, my little nails have held every manner of Who villain and hero. It's a personal guilty pleasure to be sporting pretty lady nails that are subtly sci-fi themed. You see, I started getting my digits done because i'm a fidgeter. Any point of stress in my constantly stressful job led me to pick and pull at my nails/fingers. The result was a gruesome looking set of hands. These war wounded fingers were a constant embarrassment, given that i'm 30 and often in business meetings where I don't want to look like I have the hands of a five year old with ADD. So I got myself a set of gel nails, but to counter the very adult move - I made sure they had a little nod to my inner child as well. My hands have long since healed and the little Who nails have become a favourite habit of mine. I had a brilliant nail tech in Vancouver and upon landing in Edinburgh, was getting more and more anxious that I wouldn't find a nail artist up to snuff. There's a lot of folks in town that claim it, but the look of terror when I ask for a Tardis, says it all. Until Diana. Folks... I have the fraking Van Gogh's Exploding Tardis on my right hand today. Because this lady is a wizard. (pictures soon, I promise!) Diana was a godsend for my little geeky/girly pick me up. She works out of Lotus Hair Salon and you book your appointment via her Facebook page. The first time I went in, I asked for the simplest Who nails I could (11th Doctor Love) and she told me to come back with something more difficult next time. Instant fan. Not only does she do solid, proper gel nails (many people advertise gel nails but are actually crafting acrylics or simply gel shellack) but this woman is a MASTER of nail art. Honest to gosh, go snoop her instagram. Double, triple, extra bonus awesome? She's incredibly reasonable for the work she does. A fill today and THE FREAKING EXPLODING TARDIS that covers three of my nails came out to £32 - which is about the same as another spot was looking to charge me for a simple gel polish/nail art duo. Plus, i'm not the most delicate of ladies (shocking right?) and these puppies have held up through it all. I highly, HIGHLY suggest if you're looking for a set of gels or just a funky design on what god gave ya, that you pop over and book yourself an appointment. Then spend the next week or so thinking up what you want - because this lady doesn't bat an eye... no matter how crazy it sounds. EXPLODING TARDIS? She can do that. I've found my new nail guru. Now to dream up the next set of awesome. Little Galifreys perhaps?

I was seen to pretty promptly and had a full set of acrylic nails with polish applied in about an hour and 20 minutes. They received a few phone calls while I was there, looking for appointments and they had space for everyone who called so it was good to know for next time that I don't need to be there bang on opening to ensure I get them done there and then - my usual tactic because usually when you call places or just drop by later on in the day they're fully booked up. They clearly have a few regulars as the two women who were in at the same time as me knew the guy (who I assumed was the owner) quite well. Always a good sign. The shop is quite nice, no frills but that's what you expect. It's very clean & the little waiting area is comfy though wouldn't fit more than about 4- (at a push) 5. Happy with my nails & they are really reasonably priced (I paid £25 for a new set of acrylics & basic polish). Cash only - though I only had a £20 note on me, but they were happy for me to run out to get the fiver, I wasn't sure where the nearest cash machine was but there's one down the road and round the corner on London road at a convenience store.

Parking down the side streets and in a good bit of town not too far out. Really lovely nails at a good price i have not had one break since i started going which is about 3 years now. I wouldn't go anywhere else now, top nails are the best I always get complimented on my nails, williams art on the nails is fantastic, he is a real artist and Lucy can do lovely nail art too.

I went to the wax bar straight afterwards because I wanted to cry at my nails. They gave me an appointment for the sat morning although I think they got me in after I showed them my nails. They were a joke. I felt sorry for them also as it's not nice having to put some one else's work right. They had no problems with this and just wanted to put them right for me. Sat morning and the service, the treatment was first class here in the wax bar. The girls were lovely and I think they were all pleased including me with the end result. They are now beautiful for a exciting and beautiful day on Monday. I could not be more thrilled with my nails. And this time I have shellac on my nails instead of nail Polish and a clear top coat that just came off with nail Polish. I am so so pleased I choose the wax bar and have to say they have gained a happy customer and I most certainly will go back. I also happened to pick up a price list of all the procedures they do so will definitely be taking some of these treatments up also. Needless to say I am walking on air now with my nails. There stunning. First class service thankyou.
