In September of 2015 I was charged with a DUI, my third. I knew that I didn't deserve the charge, and began looking for someone to defend me. After speaking with numerous law offices and lawyers it became apparent that the only concern they had was getting that first down payment, they didn't even ask me about my case. When I spoke with Jeff it was a breath of fresh air. He didn't immediately hit me for money, he wanted to know about my case, my background, and most important, he wanted to fight the charges as much as I did. I was required to pay him a retainer, of course, but he worked with me on that and we came to an agreement. My work requires me to be out of state, on the road, and Jeff took care of everything in Georgia, even though I had never met him. Jeff had my case postponed for a year at my request. Throughout that time we spoke regularly, and he always was confident and reassuring that this was a case we could win in court. When I did meet Jeff, I was impressed even more, even though it had been nearly a year since I hired him, I could tell he had spent his time on my case. We sat down in his office and went over the dashcam video of my arrest. Jeff went through it frame by frame, explaining at each step how he would argue my case in court. He was very confident and I was convinced we could win this thing. I paid him the fee to take it to trial, and waited for a court date. Jeff contacted me when my trial date was set. And we went to trial. I was very uneasy since I've never seen a jury trial except on TV, but Jeff was confident the whole way. The trial took two days, throughout which the state even brought the arresting officers from my first two DUI's to testify against me. Jeff kept the fight up and had expert witnesses come to my defense. Jeff had a plan from the beginning and never wavered from it. He broke down the video for the jury just as he had done for me in his office, he established reasonable doubt. Jeff fought for me all the way and made an awesome closing argument. We waited on the jury for two hours and while Jeff and I stood before the judge he read the verdict of NOT GUILTY! No lawyer can guarantee any verdict, and Jeff was very honest with me from the beginning. If he thought we couldn't have won he would have told me so, and we would have went a different route. He is a Marine and it's obvious in the way he keeps up the fight and tells his clients exactly where they stand going up against the state. I in the courtroom sometime back in December and while watching person after person get handed What would normally be considered I guess above if not above average sentences to the guidelines in which the judges are provided to give punishment Within . when all of the sudden a woman with a similar situation of mine went before the judge and with amazing results it seemed have gotten off just as they had discussed needed to say I'm not an easily shocked or impressed person. as I was exiting the courtroom with the intention of intercepting him and hiring him on the spot. That's exactly what I did he worked with me over the payments, he worked with me on the time that I needed in order to take care of the requirements for my case. And it was in contact with me around every turn and for every court date as we grew closer to the final plea agreement. I had needed some more time to finish one of my requirements and which I had fell short . Mr. Heller found the time that I I needed in order to complete that to obtain my license. I had to driving on suspended license tickets in less than 12 months and typically you're going to go to jail for that . But he explained to the prosecutor my situation or circumstances and I charge reduced my fine I'm out almost cut in half actually cut more than half and no probation and which second offense like that normally is but due to the fact in the way that he related you couldn't find a happier client nor a better attorney. Do not be fooled by Heller's service plaques on the wall for his service with the Marine Corp there is no honor in this man. He will tell you one statement while having you sign paperwork binding you to something else which benefits himself. My family lost $3,000 to this man's misleading law firm. He will prey on those who need his services the most. I thought something was wrong when after our agreement to have his law firm represent us and we paid him what we thought was the whole amount needed for our case he never called or spoke with us again. We still had questions about our case but we had to call other lawyers at different law firms to get our questions answered. After speaking to the courts we found out that the money we thought we were paying to help our case was actually being funneled to Jeff Heller even after we had already paid him what we thought was the full amount for his services. He directed an extra $3,000 to himself before we realized our money was not being used for what the courts needed. In short he quoted us $1,500 for his services $274 in court fees to file our case and then skimmed an extra $3,000 for himself with out our knowing about it until it was too late. Jeff was a terrible attorney. Not only did he just do continuances for my case , he on occasion never showed up to court on scheduled court dates while I sat there from 9:00 am til 5:00pm. He resolved absolutely nothing. Definitely do not let him do trial law. He was horrible. He nor his office returned phone calls in a timely matter or if at all. Once he had the retainer I rarely heard from him. I had to go with another attorney and did not receive any of the money back I paid him. Also, just know that the Solicitors and Judges do not like his condescending and demeaning attitude towards his clients and them. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!!! You would be better off defending your self. Mr. Heller was extremely helpful in getting some relief for my son. He was able to use my son's drug and alcohol assessment to persuade the Judge that he was not alcohol dependent. That combined with clean alcohol tests and completing all other requirements was enough to convince the Judge to significantly reduce his reporting and payment requirements.
