This place lived up to the hype. We chose this restaurant for our New Years Eve dinner and we couldn't have picked a better place. We had the jar of lobster as an appetizer and it was so good. Lobster in a jar full of delicious butter and toasted bread to eat it with...could you ask for much more?!? I had the salmon which came with avocado risotto and a diver scallop. It was delicious. We also ordered the diver scallops which was served with vegetable risotto which was equally as amazing. We were too full for any desserts but I am sure they would have been really great too. My husband and I went here for a date night about a month ago. The resteraunt ambiance is so quaint and cozy. We sat outside on the patio and it was so cute. Our waiter was excellent. We had the calamari which unfortunately was a let down as it was over cooked. I ate the salmon which was delicious! My husband had the seafood pasta which was done perfectly. Overall I would still give 5 stars becsuse the calamari tasted good it was just chewy. read more

It is a fun place for a classy night out. The ambiance is fantastic. I made a reservation two days before. Cocktails . Everything is yummy here--great live music. There was nice outdoor seating as well, with an outdoor fireplace I ordered frosè and old-fashioned Don Quixote drinks, and the food was good with the flavors, but not all were yummy. For soups, I ordered a French onion soup. The broth was salty; the soup du jour was creamy with chicken and corn .and the cast iron jumbo shrimp with homemade reduction had a strong presence of garlic. we went to tonight (July 23, 2025) to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We have been going to this location since it was previously Bonnie Ruth's. what disturbed me about this visit was they closed down the kitchen and the bakery area at 9:15 PM. It would not have been so bad if they would've told us because added a 12 adults that were there 10 of them came, especially for the desserts. To only be told that we could not buy a dessert to go even though they were just sitting there. Eight business owners who understand good customer services is, and that's not what we received tonight. Nevertheless, we will be back again, but hopefully this message falls on the right ears. And their customer service improves. read more

Service was great! Ambience is pretty especially the patio area! We went here for a birthday and got a couch for 10 people which was great! And its in the surburbs which is always a plus. All the cocktails were great! Just pricey. We got the scallops, parmesean fries, chicken flatbread. All good! The calamari was good too. Brunch, Happy Hour, Lunch - All reasons that I've visited JA and will continue to find options at this location. Food choices are familiar - salads, sandwiches, brunch options - with dessert options and cocktails. Always impressed when they serve that woodsy, smoky drink - haven't had it, but have seen and smelled the presentation. Recommend brunch in the courtyard when the weather is warm. Do not recommend seating towards the front when it is cold out (as you'd get a whiff of cold air each time the door opens.) read more

Had the greatest time with my girlfriends for brunch at J Theodore! Recommend making a reservation. We sat on the patio which is a gorgeous courtyard. The mimosa flight was an excellent choice that comes with a bottle of bubbles plus three juices of your choice. I also enjoyed the avocado toast & a side of bacon. I had my wife's birthday party/dinner at J. Theodore tonight. We sat on the patio. The server was so nice and worked hard to take good care of us. We had a rough start because the restaurant didn't record our request properly - but they figured it out and it all worked out. The food was good - especially the chicken and pasta dishes. The Steak Frites were generally overcooked but edible. The Red Velvet Cake was pre-ordered to celebrate her birthday - and it was AMAZing! The restaurant has great ambiance, and you would think the patio would be hot. But with the fans, the shade and the breeze - it was a fun time! I'm kind of selective when it comes to how many stars I will give. I would read this a 3.5. It's good it's definitely good but didn't knock my socks off. I used to come to this location when it was Bonnie Ruth's for years--it was my favorite place. This was my first trip to J. Theodore. I had heard good reviews from friends but it took me a while to get over Bonnie Ruth's being gone. Girls lunch post GNO...brussels and truffle fries. Fantastic! Drinks were refreshing and creative. We ordered club sandwich, grilled chicken pesto sandwich, ahi tacos and Cobb salad. Everyone enjoyed the food. Service was good. No complaints but nothing amazing to report either. I'll come back again to try a few other things. I love the outdoor area in the cooler months. read more

This was the first time we had been to J Theodore and I am very mixed about it. The atmosphere is pretty lively and appropriate for a Saturday night. We were seated by the patio door so every time the door opened a cold breeze came and swooped through our table blowing our menus around, which was a little annoying. Our server was very nice and as attentive as she could be for as busy as they were. We started with a cocktail, a glass of wine and the jar of lobster. My cocktail was delightful but definitely not worth the $19 price tag. The jar of lobster was delicious and quite honestly would order that again. You got plenty of lobster and they brought us extra bread to dip in the butter which was also really good. Our entrées were the short rib gnocchi and I thought it was average at best. Nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. Overall, it was a mediocre experience for the price tag, but I would go back and try other things on the menu and maybe go back on an evening where they're not as busy. We also went to rare books bar for a night cap and that was one of the best cocktails I ever had in my life. Huckleberry Finn. You'll thank me later. read more

A friend and I came here for a late lunch / early dinner and it was five all of the way. From the hostesses to the bakery cake, from the food to our server...four thumbs up! First - they have food happy hour, which I LOVE, and serve it throughout the restaurant. We ordered two ice teas, and started with the truffle fries (on the HH menu and super delish!). We were served a beautiful loaf of warm bread with REAL butter. Yum! We shared a Cobb Salad that was huge and fantastic. The chef also kindly split it for us without charging extra (sweet!). I hate having to write this. I agree with the other poor reviews. This place has gone way down hill. If you are going to charge top dollar, which they do, almost over priced IMO, then it better deliver. Our server appeared to be new and while he was very kind he didnt seem ready to be on the floor. Our deviled eggs weirdly had a very "chemical/dish water" taste to them, we did not finish them. My step sons pasta was tasty but at $31 for a chicken pasta that seemed steep. I ordered the tuna tacos and asked for the mango relish on the side, I'm allergic to onions. The relish was not left off so they took my dish back and when they brought it out I could see the tuna, which looked nice but it was just raw tuna. No marinade, no seasoning no nothing so the flavor was beyond BLAH. Hubby had cripsy sweet chili sandwich..said it was just breading and barely any sauce to boot. Not sure at that price point we will be back. Dallas has too many other great places...this makes me sad. read more

I made a reservation for this place to celebrate anniversary and asked to sit on the patio for the live music. The reservation was at 6:30 on a Saturday, we arrived a little early, we were told we would not be able to sit on the patio and had to wait 20 mins past our reservation to be seated in a tiny table, so close to the next ones that it felt like we were dining together with the patrons next to us...not fun. The server was friendly and the scallops were incredible. I didn't care for the noise level inside or the incompetent hostess who couldn't understand that we had a reservation and wanted to sit outside....she kept staring at us with a look of confusion, no apology for not being able to honor a reservation, nothing. read more

We had an incredible brunch, with great service. The Mimosas Board is very nice with Segura Viudas. The Pineapple juice is the best. We all loved our meals; Flower Child Benedict, Avocado Benedict, Country Ham and Migas omelettes. They have a large selection of delicious cakes. We had the Carrot Cake, which was one of the best carrot cakes any of us has ever had. They have a nice selection of tequila and bourbon, and a Speakeasy. My coworkers and I ate at J Theodore for the first time. The decor was elegant, but comfortable. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Meatballs and Burrata Cheese with heirloom tomatoes. All three were excellent! For our main course we ordered the Grilled Chicken Penne Pesto Pasta, Pasta Carbonara and Seared Diver Scallops. While all of the dishes were good, they were rather rich. The food is good and there is a wonderful DJ that really creates the perfect ambience. Today I came for lunch and had the French onion soup and the spring mix salad. The service was great! The French onion soup was good, but it was a little on the sweet side which I thought was odd. I've had the potato soup before and that is really good. Stopped in for a quick happy hour. I must say it's a cute and charming restaurant. The drinks did not disappoint. The frose was SO good and perfectly blended. The Bellini was also delicious and flavorful. The frozen drinks are AMAZING! Not on happy hour, but my preferred choice. The Mexican Shrimp salad was refreshingly scrumptious. I really like to go HH, especially with my daughter. Few days ago my daughters and I came here for the HH because I was really enticed by the back yard glowing with lights. Unfortunately I couldn't see any light decorations at this time (because we came around 4 pm), I had a great time with my daughter. We ordered couple of cocktails and avo sandwich. The ambience here is AMAZING but the food and service - not so much. We were seated outside last week on a warm day so the vibe was cozy but elegant. The inside is really nice too. I ordered a cocktail from the drink menu. It was good, but then asked our server for the happy hour menu after overhearing from another table. It would have been nice to be told about it beforehand. We shared: Happy Hour calamari - This was mostly fried green beans with a few insanely small pieces of calamari. I can understand it not being as substantial as if it were from the regular menu, but this was a bit ridiculous. Braised Short Rib Gnocchi-I was expecting a bowl of gnocchi with pieces of short rib mixed in, but it was more like a piece of a short rib with a side of gnocchi. Happy Hour Tuna Tacos-Just ok - easily replicated at home Raspberry chocolate Cake-pretty good! The good thing about this place is that there's something for everyone, but I wouldn't say its a memorable meal. read more

The food was delicious but the evening was ruined by trying to get into the speakeasy. We told the hostess we were going there and the waitress while we were dining. No one mentioned you could need a reservation if they were full. When we arrived there were vacant tables and we were told we needed a reservation. Also there would be a 45 min wait at that point he opened the door for us to leave. I called the manager after and she was less than helpful and only said that she will address it when the staff. I told her we had spent well over 200 on dinner and this put a damper on our night. She seemed to careless and didn't even offer a free appetizer to try to get us to return. The times I've gone here I have enjoyed the food but I think they are lacking in management. The service isn't that great! I had an awful experience with their reservations. I made them a week prior and last minute they got a big party so they seated up all the way in the back on a low coffee table right next to the bathrooms. Made us pay our bill before we even ate and after that we never saw our server again. When I went to go look for our server she was rude and avoided us (assuming that we had already tipped) so she didn't have to wait on us anymore. read more

I decided to try this place out on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I arrecifes about 1pm. Upon arriving the hostess staff was pretty nonchalant. Maybe I caught them off guard. Anyway I sat at the bar for some brunch. Nice interior and cute ambiance. The music was very LOUD! Not sure if it was a DJ or just the music. So if you want to talk you'll need to get close. Bartender greeted me and later took my order. My Order: Jar of Lobster and Carmel French Toast with Bacon . The lobster was was plentiful and there was the right amount of garlic. I didn't eat the toast since I ordered the Carmel French Toast. And that was FIRE ! The bread was dipped in a custard like batter then cooked. You can eat without syrup if you want. Bacon was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were good just not hot or warm for that matter. More like lukewarm to cool. But the flavor made up for it. Brunch is over at 2pm so maybe the cook didn't want to cook more. Who knows?! All in all. My meal was good and I'll definitely go again! You should too! read more

For being an upscale place, we weren't really impressed. My husband ordered the scallops and they had a fishy taste to them so clearly they weren't very fresh. I had the mussels and they were just ok. Not a lot of flavor. My son had a burger and it was good and my other son had a steak which was also ok. We liked the ahi tuna appetizer a lot. The water isn't filtered so it tastes like dirt. Our server was good but overall our experience just wasn't what was reflected with the overall ticket. $360 for the 4 of us didn't match the quality. read more

Not sure what has changed, but the food and service were both terrible. The server was very unfriendly and acted like he didn't really want to be there. My scallops were raw in the middle and had sand on them from not being rinsed properly. I let the server know, and he asked me how I would like them cooked. That is not usually something I have needed to request in the past. The manager brought my new scallops to the table and said nothing except there you go. If the manager is going to come to the table, why would you not be friendly and apologize for the mistake. Not sure we will eat there again. read more

This place is sliding downhill fast. With all of the other choice's in Frisco it will be a miracle if they make it. First of all, they are insanely over priced for the overall food, atmosphere etc. The food has become absolutely awful. I'm not sure if they are trying to cut corners or what. My husband and I split a margarita pizza. I honestly thought we'd been given cheese bread by accident. There was no red sauce, no tomatoes and maybe one leaf of basil. The rest was just cheese. The flatbread itself was undercooked and inedible. For 20+ dollars I could've had so many other great meals at better restaurants. It wasn't very busy at all on a Saturday night so I presume others are seeing the same thing I saw. It's a shame because I used to love this restaurant-- especially when it was Bonnie Ruth's. We came here for our 11th anniversary dinner and were disappointed. No real greeting and even though we came in at 4:30 for an early dinner, we were told the table they put us at was reserved afterall and we would have to quickly finish our meals before 6. No a great start to our special dinner out. No one asked if we were celebrating anything, no special dessert and food was just ok for the price.
