We suffered a nightmare and I don't want anyone else to suffer what we did because of Oliver Oks a lawyer working for Jaak Oks Lawyers who I employed for my Divorce. It was a straight forward divorce and I paid a lump sum fee (all money) up front. On the day that I worked with him to apply for divorce it was 6 months before intended wedding date. Prior to the court hearing I emailed him and rang Oliver's office several times (hard to get hold of him) to make sure no problems before the court divorce date and was told all was good and no need to attend court. Ten days after the court hearing I rang him to confirm the divorce had been granted and he told me that the court hearing was deferred by more than 2 months. We were shocked and I asked him the reason by phone and by email and requested him to email me a copy of the court advice, but he ignored my question and request. Not knowing why the court case was delayed and if my divorce would be finalised in time to get married created a great deal of stress, sleepless night and worry for me and my partner. ( I had paid large deposits on wedding reception venue etc. and sent out wedding invitations ) After a tortured weekend I went into the family court and was advised that the affidavit of service was never lodged. He didn't apologize until after I confronted him with the facts and he admitted that they didn't file the affidavit of service with the family court. After this we didn't trust him resulting in sleepless nights and huge stress on my relationship with my partner. The court hearing was eventually bought forward by submission of an affidavit to the court for an earlier hearing, This was in part due to me and my partner chasing Oliver and even sorting out problems at the last minute by getting advice from the court personnel or by submitting documents. We didn't trust him so we suffered every minute until the divorce was granted. This was an extremely stressful time affecting me and my partner, resulting in lack of sleep, affecting our health and worry over all the problems caused. My worst experience in Australia so far is with a lawyer, Oliver Oks and I don't want anybody else to suffer a similar problem like me. I could not imagine a lawyer who because of his fault, the customers plan was upset, delayed, but he deliberately concealed his fault, did not tell his customers and apologize to them, although his customers have the right to know and have repeatedly asked the cause of the delay. He ignored the stress, worry, the affect on life and health to the customers. The customer pays the lawyer but must suffer and have to work hard, to do what the lawyer should do. I am really disappointed with such lawyers in a country like Australia. I think he should not be a lawyer and people need to know not to use him. read more
