The Acadian Cultural Center is in Lafayette and is run by the National Parks System and has no admission fee to the center and most programs. There is a film, permanent and special exhibits that share the history, customs, language, and contemporary culture of the Acadians who became Louisiana's Cajuns. The video titled "The Cajun Way: Echoes of Acadia" is about 45 minutes in length and is very informative. The whole place is a delight. I recommend it for anyone in the area.

Located along the banks of Bayou Petit Caillou that's dotted with shrimp boats and fish camps, these brightly painted sculptures mark an era that's filled with mystery especially the sudden disappearance of the creator - I'm really surprised the artist never capitalize on his years of work. It's a free exhibit in a very small park like setting. The highlight for me is definitely the "lighthouse" which looks more like a chimney once you walk inside the small opening and look up. If you're in the area or even if you need to drive a little out of your way it's worth paying this site a visit, it's free, strange and pretty cool...

There are many of the areas, or sections, of the sculpture garden that are intertwined. I'm not clear about the connection of each, or the story of how one might or might not relate to the next. I suspect the relationship of the various sculptures to one another is part of the mystery and intrigue of this artist and his whimsical yet life like and most colorful artwork. This is a pleasing place, cozy and comfortable. Located along the bayou with the water - and an occasional shrimp boat - easing by as if no one even noticed this art oasis. That's probably because many pass by on water or on the highway without noticing. For those who who do notice, and do stop, this will be a worthwhile and unique experience. This was a VERY cool welcome center. We were actually redirected here to get one of our passport…read morestamps and I am so happy we were. The facility had a giant parking lot that can accommodate all different size vehicles, trucks and trailers. The restrooms were large (lots of stalls), clean and well stocked. They even had a QR code to scan if you were not satisfied with them. I appreciate that. Lots can go down in a restroom. When we went inside we were greeted and offered free coffee from a stocked coffee station. There was so much information available here, and an informational viedo of the area geared toward the public playing inside a theater inside the welcome center. Incredible. So clean, well lit, well stocked and decorated. A lot of pride went into this place and it shows. We spoke with the attendant, received our stamp, some maps and suggestions while we were in the area. Definitely a must see.

Located right off the Spanish Plaza, Vue Orleans is a fun, historic observation tower allowing for…read moreunobstructed views of the riverside and French Quarter. For an observation deck it's reasonably priced as well. Checking in is very easy and it's right next to the Canal Street trolley station making it a convenient stop. When you enter you're greeted with videos and short exhibits outlining New Orleans' deep and rich cultural history. This part really sets a tone for the city and is a great introduction into some of the city's culture if you're unfamiliar with it. When we went it was pretty empty and we felt like we had a lot of time to explore. Heading up into the elevators you watch a short clip on the walls which shows New Orleans throughout the ages and lets you see history well beyond when it was even known as New Orleans. Once you reach the main deck you are inside the tower with panoramic views of the city. There are also exhibits there showing more history. One more short elevator ride later and you are at the outdoor deck. The deck itself is pretty barren but does allow for great photo ops weather pending. We unfortunately went on a very windy day so if you're looking to take photos make sure to check the weather and plan ahead as best as possible. This observation deck isn't as classic or immersive as Sears Tower in Chicago or some of the ones in NYC, but for what it is, it's a very beautiful and fun way to learn more about the vibrant city of New Orleans.

I lost hundreds of dollars on advertising and months of planning with Brec Independence Park theater!! The two culprits are Jeffrey Jamal or Holiday (not sure which one he goes by because he is an impulsive liar and Xenobi the director. I have no idea how these two even got hired. Ridiculous. Prices were good compared to others and it was nice that outside catering was allowed, but…read moremanagement was pretty bad. Meetings were constantly rescheduled and phone calls and emails were always ignored. There seemed to be a miscommunication about EVERYTHING!!! The day of the party I was more stressed than anything else because so much went wrong. I honestly felt jipped when it came to most things they provided. The number of attendees were discussed thoroughly, but there wasn't enough seating, drinks, or plates! The stress of constantly feeling like you have no idea of whats going on before hand was enough for me to not to repeat the experience, but how much went wrong during the party is why I thought I should write this. The venue is nice and if you do decide to rent it, just do that and provide everything yourself, including speakers!! This place has great potential I just wish the communication was better.

I find myself at the State Archives building a lot for meetings and to early vote, and there have…read morebeen so many times that I have breezed through and not taken the time to take in the exhibits. Following a meeting this week, I meandered through the gallery to see Louisiana artists' work and then headed into the exhibit room, featuring over a century of photography gear including cameras and several different photos and media prints through the years. Other exhibits I have seen included Carnival history, woman-specific Louisiana history, cuisine, and so many other fun subjects. They give tours and provide personal guides if wanted. (the website has more information.) There is an archive library you can request to access, but you must call. They even host special events there, and my friend attended a fundraiser for a non-profit noting it was wonderful. I would love for people to consider dropping in to appreciate the history of our amazing Louisiana!
