The grounds are worth going to this restaurant and sitting outside if weather permits. Food quality leaves a lot to be desired. Been there 2 times and disappointed both times. Burgers on the patio is good. Seems like the poor staff is overworked and can't take time to welcome guests and set the atmosphere. Most meals are pricey and cocktails abit overpriced and happy hour is less but still somewhat high. It's sad since it's so beautiful inside and out that I feel management/owner really needs to step up and make it worthy to eat their food......food is lacking in being prepared correctly to begin with. read more

Came here last night because our resort gave us a discount card. Our server Alex Gold was awesome! He gave us such excellent service and we learned that he is from Los Angeles also (well originally London) It was nice to have a down to earth server that we could hold a conversation with and feel very comfortable. His service is what made our meal the most enjoyable. The food was very delicious. We both ordered filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly to med rare and was so juicy and tender. Carol Vaughn, Buck and I had dinner at Jackalope Ranch in Indio last night. Just awful. Coullot steak is nothing more than a sirloin for $30, and they were tough. Bernaise sauce was thick without a very good flavor. We didn't want whipped potatoes so paid an extra $2.50 each for loaded bakers. They were just okay. Talked to my manicurist today who said they had a company party with her husband's uncle's business at Christmas and she said the same. Then just now spoke with one of my sons who said it was one of the worst dinners ever, and they were there twice. For an absolutely fabulous looking facility, you would hope the food would excel. The place was crowded and obviously the locals know what to eat and not eat. Two dinners, a glass of wine and a tip is $100. Not okay for mediocre food. read more

The food here is ok, I'm not going to review it. I'm reviewing the service. When we first walked in the hostess was not friendly at all. She told us we could not be seated at a table because we didn't have reservations and they were very busy. She suggested we sit at the bar. While on our way , we ran into Carol, a server. Carol was awesome! She told us to pick any table in the bar area and she'd be right back with menus. She completely turned a negative impression into a positive one. Horrible experience. Went with a large group. Service was really, really bad. Took 45 minutes to get a drink after ordering it. Waiter had a bad attitude. Took an hour and twenty minutes to get our food. I asked the manger why it took so long to get the food and he said because we were a large group. Note, I complained after an hour and 15 minutes about the food taking so long and then they rushed it, otherwise it would have taken longer. The manager was really not concerned that it takes so long to get food. As such, try this place if you ok with really bad service and waiting a real long time for food and drinks. If you don't believe me call the restaurant they will probably tell you the truth (i.e., service is bad and it takes forever to get your food and drinks if you are in a large group). read more

When there for my Birthday with the Wife and kids. The foods good and the waiters was nice as well. We got there and the young lady at the counter sat us down and did not ever as if we wanted a table or a somewhere else. After we ate, we walked outside in the back and it's very nice, we could tell that they have not clean the patio, the path or one of the ponds in sometimes. Once we left, the young lady's at the counter never said a word to us. It's like she did not care if you liked the food or not. She's just there for a pay check. This is our favorite spot to take our friends when they come into town. We mostly go to their patio for happy hour. The patio is located in the back where they have built multiple fountains, waterfalls and gardens which really add to the ambiance. The food is consistently good. Their mainstay is BBQ, but they have an array of choices. I often times order their fish tacos. The patio has heaters for cooler nights and misters for times when the temperature is too hot. We also go to this restaurant to watch football games. They subscribe to the cable networks that cover all of the games. They don't have huge screens, but they do have multiple screens so you are bound to find your game. We have one couple who visit us now and then and the only place they want to go is to Jackalopes! They have also changed the menu and with my food allergies, there is nothing on the menu i could eat without making major changes. I had asked the front if I could choose from a different menu and the answer was no. But the service is so slow, I could have waited for the other menu to start. We drove 2 hours with out of town family to meet family there for a dual birthday lunch and a celebration of a brother surviving a severe motorcycle accident and a 2 month coma. We made the reservation on Open Table. We arrived at 1:15 only to be told it would be an hour before they could seat us. Due to "oldchella" happening they had about 200 people arrive in a short time to be seated and their new management staff apparently hadn't thought about this and only scheduled 3 servers for the day. After complete shock, and trying not to get upset with the hostess, I tried to reason (beg) her. Why would they have not called me to tell me? She offered the patio, but my sister in law has Multiple Sclerosis and can't tolerate heat. Between her and her cane and my broken up brother with his cane, our party of 7 was quite the group. Sarah, the hostess told me she would go talk to her manager. When she returned she said they would seat us, she would take our drink order and get the ball rolling. I could have hugged her!!! We didn't need fast service, just a place to sit and visit with family. It turned out perfectly. As it turned out Sarah had lost her Mom recently to M.S. and was sensitive to our story. The food was great, Teena our waitress was awesome and attentive. How the spineless management at Jackalope Ranch ruined my daughter's birthday (and hopefully not more) While having dinner for my 11 year old daughter's birthday outside at Jackalope, my kids were playing in the large grass area, as always, with the other children that were there. About an hour after we arrived, a couple in their 60's was sat at the table behind us. After we'd been there about 90 minutes, I heard the man at the table behind us start telling his wife that "these F------ kid's better stop playing around...". A few seconds later, he says, to me, "If your kids don't stop playing around, you're out of here." I asked him if he was serious, and he told that yes, he was serious, and I was about to find out why. While my daughter stood there next to me, he proceeded to tell me to get my f----- kids out of the restaurant, that I was a horrible father, my kids were ugly, and he would kick my ass if I didn't leave. At this point, the manager had arrived and was standing between the two of us, giving me an "I don't know what to do" look. I'll save the rest of the details, but I ended up leaving after he continued to threaten to fight me, called my kids ugly and fat a few times to their faces, and the manager made no effort whatsoever... he never asked the man to stop saying things, only looked square at me with fear in his eyes. I only left because it was clear the manager had no desire to do anything about the situation, and it would end either in me being tired of having my kids cursed at and leaving or getting into a fight. As I walked out with the manager, he apologized profusely. Of course, I asked him why the hell I was leaving instead of the bastard being kicked out, and I was told the manager believed the guy knew the owner and he didn't know how to handle the situation. I was given gift cards for my trouble, but I'll be damned if I go back to Jackalope again. I would hope any establishment would kick a prick like that out immediately. What a capstone on my daughter's birthday. Being cursed at and called ugly and fat by a bastard in a restaurant. We have gone to Jackalope for her birthday dinner for the last 3 years, as it's her favorite restaurant. This year, she left in tears from an a-hole that was allowed to tear her down because management was afraid of reprisal from their boss. Whoever that bastard is, and whoever he knows at Jackalope should be ashamed of themselves. If the owner instills upon his management the notion that guests are allowed to be insulted, intimidated, threatened, and their children cursed at so long as the perpetrator is "connected," then he or she deserves NO business at their establishment. read more

If there was a way to give this place negative stars, I would give it a negative 5 stars. I thought we would stop in for my mothers birthday. This is how the night went... The bartender (he was an older guy), had an attitude from the beginning. At first I thought he just couldn't hear us because of live music. But no he had a terrible attitude. We asked for drink menus, he acted like it was a problem. Then he took my order (margarita with muddled jalapeños), then when my mom orders a dirty martini she asked what kind of vodka they used (referring to their well) he rudely pointed at the bottles behind the bar and said "we have these" with an attitude as if she was stupid. She ended up ordering a ketel one martini, dirty. He made her drink and she noticed he didn't make it dirty. She told him he forgot to make it dirty, so he grab his olive juice bottle (it looked like a restaurant ketchup bottle but with olive juice in it) and squirts olive juice in her drink. Wtf lol??? My drink came out ok. When my girlfriend ordered her drink, this is where it got interesting. So my girlfriend orders a ketel one martini dirty, lol round two here we go. So we see him making the drink, he pours the olive juice in the drink glass and then starts to make the martini in the shaker without the olive juice. Now I've worked in bars and nightclubs, and I have a lot of friends in the buisness. But this isn't how I am accustom to making that drink. But maybe it's an acceptable way?? Anyways my girlfriend asked him if he could shake the olive juice in the martini. He gave her rude look and said "whatever it's going to taste the same anyways" then made the drink all pissed off. He set the drink in front of her and the threw the Ice from the shaker on the floor like he was pissed. After putting the shaker down and after already giving her the drink, he came over and rudely asked for my girlfriends id. Now there of course is no problem with this because she is over 21 but the only reason he asking her is because he is mad that she questioned him. She was irritated so she asked him why he was carding her now and he snapped back "I can card you whenever I want!" At this point I'm know this is just going to get worse so I tell the ladies to go to the car and i ask for the check. Keep in mind we haven't had one sip from our drinks. I pay the tab and leave him a 4 cent tip. As we are leaving my girlfriend asks to speak with the manager. One hostess goes to get the manager the other goes to tell the bartender. So the manager comes out and the bartender walks up behind us. I tell the manager what happened she offers no help. I realize I'm wasting my time so we decide to leave. As I'm walking away I hear him tell the manager my girlfriend had an attitude. Now she was upset but after how he treated her, she had the right to be upset. I'm not usually the type to care about an idiot running his mouth, it's not worth my time. But this time ihad to say something. So I confronted him. I went over and corrected his version of events and he proceeded to yell back at me with his manager standing there. We had words and I thought it was a better choice to leave than make a bigger scene. On the way home I called the manager. She basically said she would talk to him and she wished I would have told her before I paid but there was nothing she could do now, unless I want to come back at another time. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK! read more

Jackalope has really turn into a bad experience this summer. About 6 weeks ago we went for dinner. Inattentive service from our waitperson was the highlight of the meal. The chicken was as dry as the surrounding desert. Very disappointing. But then things got worse. On Labor day night we decided to give Jackalope a second chance. We arrived for dinner at about 8 pm. We were given a menu "celebrating 20 years" of restaurant experience by the group that owns Jackalope and some other desert restaurants. As part of the celebration, the group was offering three course meals for $20. Sounds good, but here is how our order went down when we ordered from the $20 menu. Mrs. M: "I would like the catfish dinner". Waitress: "I must tell you that several of my customers have sent the catfish back to the kitchen because it is too 'salty'". Mrs. M: "Well then I would like the trout" Waitress: "We are out of the trout". Mrs.M.: "Well then I would like the prime rib". Waitress "We are out of the prime rib". Mrs. M. "Then I would like the chicken". Waitress: "We are out of the chicken". So lets summarize-the catfish is too salty, and most of the rest of the $20 menu is not available. How can this group still be in business after 20 years? What are the chances that they will still be around in 2 years if this is representative of their management and culinary skills? Well, we took the hint at this point. We left and went to a restaurant that actually had the food on the menu. It is really sad how this restaurant has fallen apart. read more

Hands down best prime rib in the Coachella Valley! Excellent service. Excellent food. Excellent drinks. The Salmon is also fantastic, and the Rack of Lamb. If you go at lunch time have the Lobster Tacos..you'll need to ask for the lime to go with. Only negative restrooms could use more attending. read more

We have been coming here for years. It went through a phase in the last couple years where the food kind of went downhill...but we still came when we were in town because we adore the patio atmosphere so much. We ate there this last weekend, expecting the atmosphere to be fabulous (it was) and the food to be "okay"... but it was great! We ordered several items to share (we were there for happy hour), and everything was really good. And of course their signature margaritas! Definitely on the upswing...happy they are taking their happy hour food seriously and not just relying on the patio vibe and margaritas. What a disappointment! Bear with me on this one, its long... I had made reservations for a Saturday night at 6:30, told them we wanted to be in quiet dining area and that it was for my parents wedding anniversary. So we arrive at exactly 6:30, and go up to the hostess. She doesn't smile or greet us, just asks if we have a reservation. I told her the name, she looks at her computer and goes, "uhhhhhhh, we have a table right here...". Okay? The table was the VERY FIRST table behind the hostess counter, and in direct line to the front door with only a 4 foot wall separating it from the bar area and with a view of the kitchen. We sit down at this table without really saying anything. Our "waiter" greets us after a few moments, bringing each of us a glass of ice water. Now I know what you're thinking, you're supposed to get water, right? Well if you look on their menu, it says: "Out of respect for our environment and the record California drought, ice water is served on request only." Not a big deal, just a little weird, which can be said about our waiter as well. We're not really sure what was wrong with him, just that he was a little off... almost like he was really a bus boy or something and they were short staffed on waiters and they made him do it. This man was not waiter material AT ALL! So after a few people come in and out, my mother is cold... and the band starts playing and we can't hear each other... and our waiter hasn't returned for a long time... At this point, I have had it, and I'm pissed that I even bothered making a reservation, as it wasn't even crowded. I go up to the hostess and tell her I made a reservation for the quiet dining area and we are not happy with our table. It gets worse. She told me she couldn't even find our reservation (They take your first and last name AND phone number when you make one). Why didn't the first hostess tell us that or at least try to figure it out?? After a few minutes and quite a few dirty looks, they accommodated us in the dining room. Remember the glasses of ice water? They didn't make it to our new table, thus resulting in more wasted water. Our new waitress was better, and the food was pretty good. Half of the staff there seemed like they didn't know what they were doing and/or did not want to be there. We will NOT be going back. Try at your own risk. read more

We came here with a party of 10 and sat on the patio. We did not have to wait to be seated, we did make reservations. We had waters and drink orders right away. We did not have to wait long for the food which was nice since we had 3 kids with us. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice. After two hours of waiting for our food, and only seeing our waiter twice I in that time period, we decidedd to settle our bar tab. This restaurant is quite a contradiction. The atmosphere is beautiful and super clean, the food is fantastic.....however, the service is, by far, the worst I have ever encountered. We have been here 3x during the last 6 weeks or so because we are staying within 3 miles of it's location. Unfortunately, the service has failed ALL 3x. Each server was different... the first one, I chalked it up to just him...maybe he's just not that great. The 2nd one, she was just not very bright- she brought my husband's refill of coke and she had filled the remainder of the cup with iced tea. He enjoyed a chug of half coke/ half tea, with melted ice. Yum! The 3rd and LAST one, Sonya, was just plain lazy and unattentive. When she finally approached our table, after 10 minutes of sitting, she was rude and acted like we were invading her space. It was awkward. My husband had to get his refill and pay our check at the bar. Sidenote: when my husband asked a busser if maybe he could help out and get his refill, he looked at my husband like he had 3 heads! Way to go, teamwork! If they want to come off as a better restaurant, and charge the prices they do.... management really needs to step up and start training these people better or hire a new staff. Maybe one of the worst dining experiences ever. Where do I begin? Should have know better by reading other poor reviews. most bad reviews speak about bad food but cool atmosphere and good service. That is not what we found. 1. Appetizers came right out but we waited over an hour and a half for our entrees to arrive and the place was not even half full. 2. I had the gumbo to start. I wasn't horrible, just bland. There was 1, counted it, 1 slice of sausage in it and it had no flavor. The rue was decent. 3. My pork chop was raw. Not just salt brined and pink but raw. So much so that I lost my appetite and could not eat anything after. 4. A manager came by to make excuses about new staff, large parties in other rooms etd. I don't care why, just fix it. 5. The manager said they would comp desert but never brought the dessert menu. 6. It took a long time to get bill even though management knew we were having bad experience. We had to ask for it twice. 7. It was not a hot evening so the mister system was off. However, it was leaking and dripping on us the entire time. We never mentioned it because there was so much else going on that was bad. 8. Tried to go to the restroom on our way out but couldn't. The indoor men's bathroom was out of order with a sign asking us go to the outside bathroom. Too late. All I wanted to do was get out. Management did comp. the bills 50% and offer a $50 gift card to come back. We won't come back but might use the gift card to try one of the other Kaiser Restaurants. As others have said, its a huge and impressive place. Maybe they are trying to compensate for horrendous service and mediocre food with a huge fountain and fancy design? Looks like you are paying for atmosphere, not the food. With so many places to eat in this town, don't waste your time or money here. read more

We went for our anniversary dinner August 2014. Beautiful restaurant. This was the worst food I have ever been served anywhere. The shrimp and artichoke appetizer was overpriced for the mess that came on the plate. My baby back ribs were horrible, I didn't eat them. The food tasted like it came out of a microwaved bag. There is a huge meat smoker in the middle of this gorgeous restaurant going unused. We took most of our food home. It was obvious to the server we weren't happy with the food and she really could have cared less. We paid and left and we got back to the hotel and I immediately sent the restaurant an email. First of all, I didn't want to return there to eat again and wasn't wanting or expecting to be given a free meal. No reply. I thought about it again after 2 months and wrote them back, still no answer. So now that I'm on yelp and see all their horrible reviews.....my question is why is this place still open? The food is absolute rubbish,service crap and the management non existent. Truly a bad dining experience.Seriously deserve no star. read more

Beautiful place but the food and service are just not acceptable. With so many good places to go, there is no reason to go to an overpriced restaurant with poor food quality and unfriendly staff.
