Wonderful place…read more They had good food and reasonably priced drinks. The live music was awesome (although not jazz the night we went). We found their events on eventful.com. They had some stuff listed at the vortex. It's also really close to a tube station so it's easy to get to without a car. Seating is a little bit cramped, but possible. We didn't really have to wait. They also have outdoor seating.

After reading about the various Jazz venues in London I was drawn to Vortex because it is affordable and run by volunteers. I was not dissapointed by the music and the venue was better than I expected. Me, I am not that particular so this is my view but others said that it was a bit run down. I suspect that if you are more high brow then Dalston and it's establishments are not for you. The drinks are a bit expensive. The staff are very friendly and casual. As this is the first time I have been to a Jazz venue it is hard to make a comparative review. However we had a good time listening to the music and I would recommend Vortex to anyone who wants to try out the Jazz scene.
Here is another concert in Vortex to go on 10th Jan.

Most of it was inedible because I don't know how to do it. But mostly why I should give this place one star is the complete lack of genuine hospitality. Most of the time the staff members were trying to understand why I was there alone, like it's against the rules to come listen to jazz. They didn't want to give me a table, trying to figure out what to do with me. Also a waiter came up to tell me how much he loves trump (I'm American) and am on vacation to escape him, so it was just a bad taste in my mouth considering everything going on in the world. I'm glad it was at the beginning of my trip and not booked for a special occasion. Others had a much better time than me. I am not sure if it was a bad night or what, but I would rather just go to a restaurant with a menu and quality service. The jazz was great though. Also they gave me a broken water glass. Like the mouth piece was broken. I respect the hustle, just not the grift.

There's lovely Monmouth coffee to awaken the senses and always a spot of live hipster activity within the cozy glass fronted cafe with its vista looking out on to Gillet Square; actors often rehearsing scripts, muso's lovelornly reciting reams of ballads of sad cafes and agile skaters defying gravity and the cold outside. The food looks awesome and if you're there as the evening draws in again, the possibility of having a great pineapple and sage mojito is very possible when it's happy hour from 4-7! Located in a posh area, All Blue's Bar offers a unique experience righ from its entry procedure to the live performances inside. Being a typically small place, the entry is restricted to as and when people leave. So if you are planning to drop in on a weekend, I suggest you reach there by 9 or maybe even earlier if possible if you want to avoid standing in the cold for a minimum of 45 minutes! Once in, just enjoy the music and swing to the music.

Shentah, the host, was saying how a few people on the list encouraging others to put their names on the list. When I asked her the reason she said other people put their names above me so she could not had a chance to call me. I took the list, and showed her how my name was still on the 8th and at least 15th people was on the stage but not me. Then she had no answer and said. "Yeah ok". It is all, yeah ok! Hell, not yeah ok! I am not black and I am not borned in the UK but this does not give her a right for discrimination. I thought Troy bar was very inclusive place and I was really enjoying being there. Obviously I was wrong! Another odd thing about this place, besides the rude management, is that they only accept cash for the entrance fee and food, but you can pay for drinks with a card. It's curious that they have the capability to accept all payments by card but choose not to. Additionally, they do not accept banknotes issued by Scottish banks, even though refusing them is against the law! Go somewhere else; there are plenty of better options nearby. I haven't tried the food, but I saw the kitchen, and the hygiene is poor!
