I cannot believe I waited so long to visit this local gem! My husband and I dropped in for lunch today (Saturday) and were extremely happy we did. Although there was a line, it went by fast. The food does take time , but it's so worth it! We each had the Philly and hand cut fries, kool-aid and we got an order of buffalo-lemon pepper wings and Jamaican beef patties to go. So many good choices made it so hard to decide. You can have the homemade patties cooked or take home frozen if you like. We choose frozen and popped them in the oven at 350 for 25 mins as they instructed. They were delicious! Hands down the most friendly and welcoming service we've ever had. Of course me and "Son One" had to hit the town last night to find another Augusta classic! "Jackie M's and sons" is now an American top 100 on Yelp ranking a well completed #77! As we took our left on Milledgeville Road there to our left was this older building with lots of people gathered almost with a family like following. This ellectic group had one thing in common, they were there for not just incredible hoagies and "Soul Rolls", they were there for the "Jackie M's and Sons" experience!! When we got to the front door, it was locked... At first Caleb and I looked at each other thinking we were there to late.. I checked the time, it was only 6:30, they don't close until 8:00 p.m.... Suddenly, a woman with an apron opens the door simply to say, we are out of roast beef for their famous Philadelphia Cheesesteak hoagie... Hungry enough to eat the screen door, I asked politely, "do you still have chicken for a "Philly Cheese chicken buffalo hoagie?" She replied, "yes".... In we went into the cramped order area.... There, was one if Jackie M's sons taking orders... but there was much more than orders taken, there was a feeling of excellence, humor, and pride with friendliness that made you feel like family! That was truly their "secret sauce"... He took his time with each person almost purposely to tie in personalized phrases that made you feel like that order was personalized to you... Finally, 20 minutes went by and it was our turn to order.. Caleb first, then me... Well, by that time I was so hungry, I think I ordered 1 of everything that was left! As, I finished, he said, Joe, yours is the last order today because we are now "out of food"!!! They locked the door again, so I was the official "they are out of food" guy each time someone new came to the door... Atmosphere & location - I arrived at night and was a bit confused at first, the parking lot will sneak up on you and can be a bit challenging to find a spot. If you are planning on coming at a busy time, you might want to park across the street. This is a busy place, the ordering counter & kitchen are right up front with ample waiting room. Be prepared to wait for this deliciousness, you will probably have to wait even if you call in, but good food takes time. The outside of their building has murals of famous musicians and it is an old house that has been converted into a restaurant. Full star for unique style Experience & service - The family that runs this location are amazing. They do cheesesteaks & cheesecakes, but they are in such high demand that they run out. Sometimes in a stressful situation it can really wear down the service, but Jackie is a wonderful magician taking care of people in a hectic environment. I was amazed at how accommodating they were for me, going the extra mile really made my trip worth the extra time. Star and a half Menu & Timing - Their menu is pretty easy to understand, they have everything listed up there, however be careful because they are running out of stuff constantly. The price is definitely worth the taste of the food, but the timing could wear some people down. Even though they closed at 8, there were still people waiting for their food at 8:30, which could be a problem for some people. With the items running out, it makes it a little bit of a hard to get commodity so we are going to put a 3/4 star for this one. Flavor & presentation - Until I have experienced a Philly cheesesteak in Philadelphia, I am wary of going overboard on how they should taste. The hoagie bun is thick, holding together all of the goodness, and I got it with provolone and mushrooms. I would highly recommend the soul rolls, their ranch is delicious! I also got the red velvet cheesecake which was incredibly rich but very tasty. Since it was a to go order, I'm not going to knock the packaging, it was your typical styrofoam. Also definitely get the koolaid! Full star Expectations v reality - I had some expectations for driving such a far way to get to them, and the way that they treated me really hit home. Good people make good food, and these are wonderful amazing people. So you know that the food is going to be good. They also have great peach cobbler, but you're going to have to special order that because that apparently is on a back order it's so popular! Definitely a top place to visit here in Augusta! Alright Augusta... if you haven't visited Jackie M's and Son on Milledgeville Road you are missing a treat. Last night my wife and I was traveling down Milledgeville Road and noticed a crowd of people at what we thought then was someone's private residence, to our surprise it was a house converted to a restaurant. I did a quick lookup of the name on the dusty, trusty Yelp App and boom five star review, I did a U-turn and proceeded to Jackie M and son. Ok, parking sucks (more spots in the rear), there is very little dining area (not good for groups) nevertheless the customer service is excellent and the food exceptional. We were advised that we would have a little wait time which we expected it being crowded and such, while waiting we were offered complimentary beverages and was given a little history of the wall Art, in fact artwork can be found inside and outside the building (inquirer if you visit). We ordered the Jerk Chicken Soul Rolls... very delicious, the Gut Busters Philly Cheese Stake... can feed a small country and of course some Lemon Pepper Wings... also very delicious. The Philly was more food then we could eat at one sitting so we took the rest to go. I highly recommend a visit to Jackie M and Son to grab lunch or a quick snack. What a wonderful find! Best home style meal we've had on our long adventure! We loved this place! They make you feel like family, so nice! We both had the Philly Cheese Steak with grilled sautéed onions, mushrooms and cheese on a hoagie roll that was so fresh and soft! We also had Chicken Soul rolls (so good!) and chose their yummy Blue Cheese dressing for our dipping sauce. Their hand cut fries are crispy and delicious. Wow, everything is just so flavorful! We also had to get their Classic Cheesecake with Strawberry Topping to go for dessert later (we were stuffed!) and it was so good! Wish we had a place like this near home, we'd go there a lot and try everything on the menu! When you find a place that is so good to their customers and you can tell they put a lot of love along with expertise in their cooking it really makes a huge difference in the whole experience of dining out. Im from the north and I'm always searching for the perfect philly. I wasn't disappointed when I stopped in to dine here. We had steak and chicken phillys with fries red kool aid and fresh cookies. The food was good and my service was fast especially sInce the line started at the street. The menu was limited so that was a bit disappointing , we also had to wait an hour for re opening which was inconvenient. The regulars were very annoying with complaints of how busy they suddenly were. If anything "regulars" you should be proud and happy when small businesses start to do well. I read theYelp reviews & dropped by. They were extremely busy. I placed my order. The wait time was about 30 minutes (which I don't mind). When I received my order I had to go back because they forgot my cheesecake. When I got home I quickly took a bite of my cheesesteak. It was tasty however WHERE'S THE BEEF!!!! My sandwich was extremely skimpy. The highlight of my meal was the fries. They were great! I paid $18 for a bread sandwich. Not cool. The best customer service I've experienced in years! These people know how to put a smile on your face with handshakes and hugs for all that enter. They have fun and most importantly they invite you into the fun with them. Then they follow it up with some big, messy, delicious cheesesteaks. There is so much cheese coating the meat, and it's all melted throughout and it insulated the heat. So even the last bite is still piping hot. This review is a little overdue and I want to apologize to the nice people at Jackie M's & Son. This place is GREAT. Seriously, so good. Food came out piping hot and tasting super fresh. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best, place I've dined at during my time in Augusta. The food itself is worth the visit, but the part that puts the icing on the cake is the people who work at Jackie M's & Son. I have never felt so welcomed walking into a restaurant. From the lady working the register, to the chefs, to the servers, to even the other guest who was waiting for his own food - absolutely the best service I have ever received from a restaurant anywhere. Once again last night I discovered a new restaurant from a recommendation and once again I am blown away by the amazing people and local businesses we have here in Augusta. I was treated like family from the time I stepped on the property and welcomed by the owners with a smile and a chicken wing. Don't sleep on Ms. Jackie's! On an extended visit from Brooklyn, NY and came here based on colleague reccomendation. EVERYTHING was on point. The cheesesteak is mad close to Geno's and the fries are close to Boardwalk/Thrashers except Ms. Jackie's is better IMO. Wings & things were juicy and very well made. NY Cheesecake isn't exactly Juniors but really who is? Even some NY spots aren't on point with their Cheesecakes. This one was still really good. Sweet Tea is just sweet enough and home brewed! Portions are super generous, Price is super reasonable and the Customer Service is outstanding. I'm only mad that I didn't come here sooner.
