They specialise in military history books from before and after the two World wars. I've bought a couple of things from here and they really are interesting and educational at the same time. As it says on the front these folks are military history specialists, but that's not all they cover here, while you may be hard pushed to find a section on trash paperback romance novels there are a few reference sections that ladies might find interesting. God knows I don't want to draw stereotypes, but the selection of girls that would find what the Lewes Book Centre has to offer interesting is definitely going to be smaller than that of the boys. The folks that work here seem a little odd but in my experience that's par for the course for anyone who has a little too much to do with military history. Come, spend a few hours browsing, leave with a manual for a Sherman tank and wonder why you don't know more about heavy artillery.

They do have quite a wide selection of magazines, and they also have several stands of greetings cards. That, combined with the florists Miss Bloomsbury which also inhabits the station building mean that Lewes station is fairly well-equipped to provide you with some last minute presents - providing you need them before 5.30pm. The woman who runs the Station Bookshop is quite grumpy, but I'm not surprised because the low neon lighting in the shop is rather depressing. Basically, it's not lovely, but is useful if you want some water or a paper before you hop on a train.

If your looking for a second hand place that is like the 15th century bookshop, ramshackle and ridiculously quaint, this is not the type of place. This is for serious collectors who have nice clean houses with a few choice things (maybe?), not for mad old bag ladies, which you could imagine cram into the 15th century bookstore in droves. I saw some beautiful leatherbound classics, as well as some interesting art books. There was a book here that was going for £600. Now come on!

It has a hushed and reverent feel to it when you first walk in, but quickly as you scan through the books you realise that there are all kinds of books here- all second-hand and prime condition- but not all out of reach. You can't go in and find any number of books for a few pounds but you can buy a great hardback first edition of an Anita Loos, Paul Auster, Ian McEwan or an art book for between £10 and £20. Or...you could spend several hundred (even thousands) on a rare and/or old book.

She came to me when she realised she forgot about my toast, apologised and corrected her mistake by offering me a free drink while I was waiting for a new toast to be warmed up. The pre-packaged warmed-up toast tasted okay. And I like Costa's Chai Latte. I also ordered a banoffee pie tart, but it didn't blew me away. I like the staff here better than another Costa in London, but overall I find Costa's staff less friendly than Starbucks'.

We got a small cappuccino (big cup, had to give to my brother to finish off) and a warm Piri-piri chicken sandwich plus the garden salad which was an add-on for 1.10 pounds. The salad was only mixed greens but had a good amount of tomatoes. My brother scarfed down his sandwich, and as the total came to around 10 pounds, we felt it was a pretty good bargain. So updated review: Went here on way back to Belgium, and since all three of were super hungry, got x3 mains - fish and chips, chicken tikka masala with rice, Haloumi, mushroom and falafel burger and a garden salad as a side. All three dishes were great. But the standout really was the burger, which is great for vegetarians as it gives them an option to eat something other than the soy veg burger at McDonalds. I loved that it was a brioche bun, as its sweetness undercut the saltiness of the Haloumi. Then I saw my falafel had proper whole chickpeas and that made me super happy as while the patty tasted genuine, seeing proof is always welcome. The masala of the chicken was perfect (just wished there were some vegetables) and the fish and chips were pretty good and hot and crispy. So pleased we stopped here again. The only minor issue, and it might be a personal taste preference, is that their coffee sucks, so I got one from Costa instead.
