The process of closing the sale of my property on Lake of the Ozarks seemed to start out well…read more However, they wanted to charge me $150 for a mobile notary, with whom I spoke and she lives about 10 miles away. Great American would not allow me to use the notary at my local bank but required a title company notary to notarize the closing documents. After calling in several favors, I located a notary that satisfied Great American's requirements. This leg work saved me $150. On the day of closing, the internet program Great American Title uses would not work so funds could not be transferred to me. "Rachel" told me that we could call my bank the next morning and talk to them to avoid "fraud". She already had a cancelled check from my bank... Next morning we called and spoke with my Bank of America rep. After a 20 minute conversation with exchanging routing and account numbers and closure of the call, I'm thinking everything will be finalized. Then Rachel calls me back and said the funds cannot be transferred because they don't have "a form" from me authorizing the transfer! Now we're two days with Great American holding my money. She said they can overnight a cashier's check to me to be received on day 3! Today, the check arrives and it IS NOT A CASHIER'S CHECK. When I called Rachel, she told me that a "title check" is as good as a "cashier's check". My bank says otherwise. Do not use this company if you expect a smooth closing and receipt of your money!!!
