Had a very nice lunch here today! I had the creamy mushroom wild rice soup with homemade bread. Oh my - one of the best soups I've ever had. It was rich & hearty, and the accompanying homemade bread was perfectly toasted with a light amount of butter. If you see this soup on the menu, run, don't walk to get it. My husband had the soup/grilled cheese combo. He had the loaded baked potato soup, which he said was very good. He also enjoyed the grilled cheese. Service was friendly & great. Several years after the traditional Jacobi's restaurant, a long time Hazelhurst dining establishment, closed during the Covid epidemic, the place reopened as a cafe and bakery under the name Jacobi's 1922. We stopped for a light lunch the other day and it was pretty good. I went with their creamy broccoli soup and a slice of quiche. The soup reminded me of the soups served for first courses at the old Jacobi's -- a proper consistency, ample amounts of veggies, but lacking depth, probably because it is built from a commercial soup base. Still, it was acceptable for the price point and I finished the whole bowl. The quiche featured a proper egg custard with a nice mix of bacon, onions, probably some mushrooms and cheese. The crust however was over baked on the exposed edges and a bit soggy under the egg. I previously had a slice purchased for takeaway and the components were better. Hopefully they can achieve a consistently quality product because when it's good it's good, and I love having an establishment like Jacobi's 1922 just a mile from my home. read more

What a fabulous meal and the staff was the best. We had some issues parking but we found a place across the street and others followed suit. The issue though I was in a minivan and the road and lot were for a 4wd but I figured with all the big trucks there someone could get us out. But we were fine. The onion rings were so good that we couldn't control ourselves to stop and save dinner. They don't really have a kids menu but they had enough options to make it okay. My steak (the garlic stuffed one) was very good just not very garlIcky. The old fashions were on point. The dessert - we shared the creme brûlée and it was good. The staff was super awesome. My parents built a lake house in Hazelhurst, Wisconsin in the mid-1970's and I've visited the area nearly ever year since that time. It wasn't until the late 1980's, however, that I heard of Jacobi's. My husband and I were looking for a place to eat near the lake house and thought we'd try Jacobi's. We lived near Washington DC at the time and had eaten at some very nice restaurants there so didn't expect the caliber of food we were used to. We could not have been more wrong -- Jacobi's food was delicious, fresh and different from food we could get back home or in Wisconsin. We've gone back several times and the quality of the food is always top-notch, including our visit last Wednesday. We didn't make reservations because we figured we were safe after Labor Day. We were seated right away at a table we'd eaten at before. We joked it was our "regular" table and admired the view of the back garden out the window. As we looked at the menu, deciding what to order, we were distracted by a table of loud diners across the room. In an uncharacteristic move, my husband asked our waiter if we could be seated in the adjacent room. She immediately complied with our wish and, although the loud diners were still audible, they were muffled by the distance. Our second table view was not quite as picturesque, but still very nice. We ordered a bottle of wine to drink with our meal. As I've said before, we are used to restaurants in the Washington DC area, so seeing a bottle of Washington State Sauvignon Blanc for a a measly $17 delighted us. I ordered the Stuffed Chicken Marsala which was the best Chicken Marsala I've ever had -- sort of a combination of unbreaded Chicken Kiev and Chicken Marsala. It was served with linguine. My husband had their special that night -- pork chops with a sweet pecan breading and sauce. It came with a choice of potato, sweet potato, or Greek quiche. He chose the quiche. I tasted his food, which he loved, but I liked mine better. Both meals were preceded by a cup of amazing sherry tomato soup, a complimentary appetizer (Gorgonzola butter served with flatbread), and their yummy freshly baked bread. The food, the wine, the service, the setting -- everything added up to an unforgettable meal. Jacobi's could relocate to Bethesda, Maryland and still be among the best. We were pleasantly surprised that our bill was much less than we usually pay for dinner for a night out in the DC area. We will keep going to Jacobi's as long as they are around -- which I hope is a very long time. read more

First off-I wish we could rate service and food separately. I would give the service a two and the food a 3. Let's start with service. We arrived shortly after five-this was a combination of really our lunch and dinner. We walked into a nearly empty restaurant. The owner of the restaurant greeted us by telling us that we typically would need a reservation but there was an exception today and they could fit us in. Remember I said the restaurant was empty-probably one or two tables at the most. So she sat us at a table in the back room. Her first thing to point out to us is that we were near the bathroom. Not quite an appetizing feature. The server started out OK. I inquired about the walleye and how it was prepared. She explained it was very lightly dusted and panfried. I specifically asked if it was breaded and she said no it was just lightly dusted in flour. Throughout the Service, the server was very inattentive and hard to find at various times during the meal. She acted as though she had something better to do with almost an empty restaurant. We ordered the Ahi tuna for an appetizer-and were not pleased with how it was served. It came to us and the dish was hot. Ahi tuna is typically Served seared and cold. She did not offer to replace it or remake it. Actually I don't recall much of any response. When our walleye came to the table-it was clearly breaded. I inquired about the fact that it was breaded and she kept explaining to me that it was lightly dusted and pan fried. We have been at this restaurant many years ago, and remember a much more pleasant and upscale experience. There certainly has been a decline over the years. We will not return again. read more

My wife and I go to Jacobi's a couple of times a year and we have never been disappointed. We've had a variety of menu items including, tenderloin, Walleye, and Ahi tuna. Every dish was prepared to our request and were delicious. We have never been to Jacobi's when it wasn't crowded so we have always made reservations. Most recently we arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation and there was a line at the hostess stand. when we got up to the front the hostess indicated that she would come and get us when out table was ready, We went to the bar and ordered a drink. The bartender was relatively busy but that didn't stop her from be cordial and getting out drinks quickly. Before our drinks were half done the hostess came and to the bar and notified us that our table was ready; almost exactly at the time of our reservation. BTW - we have discovered is if you want to get a booth you need to make reservations way in advance. Our waitress appeared at the table almost immediately after being seated. she gave us some information about the specials and gave us some time with the menu. She returned a short time later and took our order. My wife ordered the Walleye special and I had the Ahi Tuna. That night the complimentary appetizer was balsamic vinegar bruschetta and flavored spread for crackers which were both excellent. The appetizers was followed with our salads and fresh baked bread. The salads are small and simple but are fresh and the dressings were very good. Shortly thereafter our meals arrived with the side of butternut squash. Bottom line is that the meals were excellent and the staff was courteous and prompt. Jacobi's is definitely a place you need to visit if in the Minocqua / Hazelhurst area. read more

Amazing food and nice atmosphere. Prices comparable to similar supper clubs in the area. I had the tuna, which was prepared perfectly. The bourbon pecan mashed sweet potatoes are to die for. Perfect flavor balance. Husband had the honey pecan chicken special. It was cooked right, and will satisfy any salty/sweet craving. A definite must try if you're in the Minocqua area. read more

Jacobi's of Hazelhurst - We've been driving by Jacobi's, off of Cedar Falls Rd & Kaubashine Rd, for years on our way to the cabin. They've always been closed during the week when we are there in the Spring or in the Fall. We were up for my wife's birthday so the timing to visit seemed like the perfect opportunity to visit. This was our first visit and things seemed to not go smoothly from the minute I stopped to make reservations and added that we would be celebrating a birthday. When we stopped the next night, 30 minutes before our reservation the "new" host informed me that they didn't have a reservation for us but she'd be able to work us in for our requested time @ 6:00. We sat at the bar and ordered a couple of Wisconsin classics - Brandy Old Fashioneds - and thought we'd strike up a conversation with the bartender and learn a little more about the family owned restaurant - no such luck, even though we were the only ones sitting at the bar for the first 10 minutes, she was somewhat pre-occupied and didn't have time to talk. When a table came available, we were seated adjacent to the bathroom, so my wife had a great view of the ladies bathroom door. Ok, we thought we're off to a rough start, things can only get better from here...no such luck. Our server was equally pre-occupied and seemed put out that this was our first visit and that we didn't know the menu and that we had a few questions. Now for the bright spot of the visit - the food...first some appetizers which were delicious and then our entrees - I had the pecan encrusted chicken breast which was very good. We also shared a couple of deserts which were delicious as well. Overall, I thought the servers and service lacked professionalism and did not match the quality of the food. We did enjoy our food, the eclectic flavors and combinations, but for the $100+ that we spend at the bar and dining - I was not impressed. Unfortunately a nice evening to celebrate a birthday at a local, Northwoods restaurant didn't impress. There are too many options in the Northwoods that we've enjoyed over the years so I probably would call this visit - one and done. By the way, no one took time to extend birthday wishes to my wife...disappointing. read more

Honestly, the best meal in the Northwoods. Could go up against any steak in Chicago! The garlic stuffed tenderloin will not disappoint.

We have been coming here for twenty years as it has decent food which is hard to find in the area. The problem is they frequently don't honor reservations which can result in frustrating long waits. Three times this season we had to wait while people who had reservations well after us were seated as "our table" wasn't available. They use an insane process of reserving a specific table rather than a specific time. So you run into situations like we did tonight when the individuals at "our" table, resting their arms on their doggy bags and having already paid their bill, decide to order more fancy after dinner drinks. Are we sat at one of the available 5 tables? No. Does the manager politely ask the people to have their drinks at the bar? No. So we will no longer be eating there. We have a large wedding planned in the area next summer and were planning to approach them for several events during that week but have changed our mind. Crazy system. Food at norwood pines. Aberdeen lodge, and smokeys is better and they honor their reservations. Avoid jacobys. read more

We were lucky enough to get a reservation here on New Year's Eve after hearing the rave reviews from our resort hosts. The tenderloin was amazing as were all the sides, appetizers, and drinks. Oh, and dessert as well. It's only open Fridays and Saturdays in the winters so plan ahead and definitely call for a reservation as it gets busy! read more

All the food was very good; huge coconut shrimp and my pasta with blackened chicken, lemon and basil sauce was wonderful. My parents live in Minocqua, and whenever I visit we make a trip to Jacobi's. I always enjoy coming here - pleasant setting in a converted house. I opened with the seared ahi tuna plate, which was very good. The soup offered the night I was there was their "Christmas soup" - a stellar cream of scallop! For my main course, I had the filet mignon with cognac mustard sauce and lobster tail. The steak was cooked exactly how I asked, plus the flavors of the brandy and mustard shone through; the lobster was good - not at all rubbery which can happen on surf-and-turf platters. I finished my meal with a superb poached pear raspberry parfait - nice and light. The cocktails are excellent, which pleasantly seems to be par for the course in Wisconsin. My main complaint would be the appetizer section of the menu. The only dish I found interesting at all was the tuna dish that I opted for, and that dish was just a small portion of the same tuna dish offered as a main course! Suffice it to say I think a little more effort can definitely be put into the starters. Good experience on the whole I'd say. Good choices for main dishes and desserts and well-executed, pleasant atmosphere. Much improvement for the appetizers is needed. read more

Dinner last night as a thank you for help received from neighbors, everything as expected, except the Malbec ordered by our guest, please watch what you serve: Sediment which develops in red wine bottles and which you need to carefully remove is formed from tannins and other solid matter that gradually falls to the bottom (or side, if you are storing the wine properly). The presence of this material helps give the wine character and complexity, but you don't want to leave it in the wine when you serve it. First, this kind of sediment can give a nasty, bitter flavor to the wine. Even if the sediment is very mild, it will at the very least interfere with any of the subtle nuances that have developed during the aging process. Second, it's simply not pleasant to look down at red or dark bits in your wine glass. If you're serving a red wine that's been aging for several years, you'll want to hold it up to the light to see if a sediment has formed. If so, set the wine bottle upright for a few days before serving so all the sediment collects in small area at the bottom of the bottle. When you open the bottle, you'll want to decant it first before serving and possibly aerate the wine as well. Service fine, food delicious otherwise. read more

We, and our extended family, have enjoyed Jacobi's for over 15+ years. We have always had wonderful food and service until recently. Unfortunately we have found that the quality of the food is little better than Applebees, but at twice the price! The atmosphere that was once charming, is looking a little worn and tired. In addition, the restaurant was so loud that it was difficult to carry on a conversation or enjoy the experience. The service which use to be stellar has declined to a long wait for even a drink order, a longer wait for food to arrive (only to find some entrees barely warm) and we experienced a waitress that acted as if serving our table was a huge inconvenience. We had family members in our party from out of state and after bragging on how wonderful this restaurant was, we were embarrassed by the food, service and atmosphere! We called to voice our disappointment and we were assured an owner/manager would call back, but there was absolutely no follow up! Obviously they don't care. We and three other households in our party will NOT be back! read more

Went here for dinner tonight. My steak was cooked perfectly, however the steak of my friends was rare, they ordered medium and medium rare. The steaks come with mushrooms, I assumed that for $31 they would be FRESH mushrooms and NOT canned. I am not impressed with this place. I ordered a creme brûlée for dessert, tonight's was vanilla. It was like a vanilla jello pudding dessert with a crusted top. Under the dish it was served in there was a huge amount of Hershey syrup that was squirted on the plate-and not in a nice way, it was like a large blob! For the price of the food, it was not worth it for us and we won't go back. My last complaint is that they charge you a 3% service fee for using a credit/debit card. AMAZING and DELICIOUS and a delightful experience. My wife always gets a skewer of delicious steak & vegetables & shrimp with a spicy mustard sauce, and rice. She says she will get that every time until she gets sick of it in 20 or 30 years. I am trying to taste everything on the menu and everything I get is amazing & delicious. Mostly I get steaks but I have tried most everything. Small basket of crackers with usually some sort of cheese spread on every table. Love the salad, I rarely get the soup, but soup has been great the times I have chosen it. Every meal comes with this great and unique appetizer of some sort (I do not mean the crackers and cheese spread!) and also hot bread with various butters and/or oils. Excellent potato choices like baked potato, rice, twice baked a la carte, sweet potato (in bourbon-sauce I believe) and more. The bartender, hostesses, and waitstaff has always been very friendly and professional. Always an enjoyable experience. You don't have to make reservations, but you may have to wait, as they are packed every night we have ever been there. I would have to guess we have been there approx. 20 times. read more

I've been a customer at this restaurant for 15+ years. We usually go there for special occasions (yes, it's pricey, but well worth it IMHO). Yesterday was my BD and I had my favorite thing on the menu, garlic-stuffed tenderloin. The others in our group of 5 had pasta, coconut shrimp and a strip steak. They cleaned their plates (or took a "person" box home) and highly praised their meals. Our food has always been above average to excellent, the service is exceptional and we will continue to patronize this "gem of the North". Far from "gourmet"...how about homemade Butternut Squash soup in the middle of summer?? Obviously from a can! The signature dish is pork tenderloin with blue cheese, which we found tough and tasted left over. The Walleye was dry and the Scallops tough. The restaurant is cute for the Northwoods, but skip it. I have lived in the Northwoods for 11 years. My husband was born here, worked elsewhere and we both retired here. We go out to eat fairly often in the summers and always looking for that perfect place with great, home cooked meals. It is without exaggeration and my husband and I agree that we had the best meal in the Northwoods at Jacobi's since we've lived here. We both had Tuscan potato soup with Italian sausage as a first course. Oh my, it was yummy! It was definitely homemade and there was no skimping on ingredients. My main course was blackened shrimp (perfect) with basil cream sauce (not overpowering like basil can be ) and fresh veggies (an excellent addition). My husband's bacon wrapped tenderloin was cooked to perfection, delicious, fork tender and served hot. Our waitress was cheerful, efficient, and very pleasant. I could overhear the hostess speaking to customers in a pleasant, cordial manner, making everyone feel welcome. Better yet, order the Garlic Au Poivre which is not featured on the menu. The Peanut Butter Pie is an excellent dessert to finish off the dinner. Hated giving Jacobi's a 3 but here goes! To begin with, we called about reservations and the lady on the phone was very friendly and helpful and we made reservations for Saturday evening. Even though we've been residents and visitors to the area for 60 some years, this was our first visit to Jacobi's. It's a very attractive and pleasing place. We arrived early so sat at the bar for a drink and were greeted by a very pleasant and friendly tattooed lady bartender who makes a fabulous Old Fashion. I was curious if she was a "biker", but no, her tattoo's were all family related, kid's birth dates, etc... Very interesting lady. We were the second couple to be seated and they put us in a back corner so I asked why we couldn't be seated by the nice open window in front with a table for two and was told this is how the hostess assigned us! We were quickly serviced by various staff and greeted by our waitress Shelby. The food was absolutely FANTASTIC, a definite 5-stars! The salad and dressings were superb, the loaf of bread perfect, my pepper steak and my wife's seafood sampler could not have been any better; absolutely delicious; right up there with our favorite northern restaurant, the Blue Bayou. Where things hit the skids was with our waitress, Shelby! She was pleasant to a point but curt, short mannered, in a hurry, not very attentive; always in a rush it seemed! Not one to carry on any sort of conversation or pleasantries; develop a rapport with! We had finished our meal and were sitting idlely, wondering if she'd forgotten about us when she appeared. We asked for our check, gave her a credit card and she disappeared. When she returned it wasn't to give us our receipt to be signed but to wait on a table of 14! So there we sat, while she waited on this huge group, all the while we found out she had our credit card slips on her person, making us wait! When she finished with the large group order, she came over and gave us our slips! We asked for a large carry out container which she presented and insisted on putting my wife's left overs in it herself and my wife said she wanted everything on her plate. When we got home we noticed we were shorted on the left overs, she didn't give us everything! To make a long story short, the food was fabulous, our waitress not so...!! She definitely doesn't belong waitressing in a facility of this caliber! We'd return for the food but would definitely ask for a waitress other than Shelby! Oh, after an hour and a half dinner the table for two we requested by the front window was still vacant...!! read more
