All Star Nails is an incredibly friendly, professional and clean space to get yo' nails did. Most recently I walked in off the street late in the afternoon and requested a shellac manicure. I was immediately seated, offered a bottle of water and one of the friendly gals got to work. EFFICIENCY! My nails are still crisp and clean, one week later with absolutely no signs of impending chips. The pedicures are just as speedy but equally as relaxing. Lay back in one of their giant, massaging seats and forget your worries and your cares. But what reflects most about the All Star ladies are their customers. Every time I have popped in, they always seem to have local ladies coming in and out, asking about the manicurists children or requesting "the usual". Having mainly seen waxing services offered at your cheap asian type nail salons, I was seeking out somewhere more specialised after hearing some horror stories from others experiences! And then of the few waxing specific places I had seen, their booking times seemed to be extremely limited and nobody wants a rushed waxing experience because surely that can only lead to more pain! i was taking a wander down Johnston Street one Saturday afternoon and saw the sign for Clara's Beauty Room out on the street and put a note in my phone to investigate this further. I researched the website which in itself was very professional - always a good sign in my book! I then had a look at the facebook page and all the reviews seemed very positive, and so along with the Spring Specials advertised on the website, I decided I needed to give this place a go and if I had my own horror story at the end of it, then so be it. I am SO glad that Clara's was the place I finally took my Melbourne waxing leap. Horror story it was NOT! Let me start by saying Clara is an absolute gem! She made me feel comfortable immediately and the room where the waxing is done is just a little oasis (you enter via Monarch Hairdressers - and they were equally as welcoming to me and not dismissive like other businesses who share premises can be and directed me where to wait whilst offering me a coffee or tea and some magazines to read while Clara finished up with her previous client!). I had chosen one of the spring sale packages consisting of a brazilian, full leg wax and eyelash tint (which all together was under $90!!!). Once Clara had brought me into her beauty room, she had a bit of an introductory chat and then said she would start with the full leg wax while I got comfortable with her and then we could move onto the brazilian if I was comfortable - I have never had that offered to me before! There was no way I couldn't feel comfortable though because like I said, she is an absolute gem and I just loved the experience (as fun as getting hair ripped out of your body can be of course!). It was finished off with the lash tint, which she said she would leave on for 20 minutes instead of the usual 10 as she felt it would last longer that way, but if I was feeling irritable by lying with my eyes shut for that long that she could remove it sooner. I had no problems with this and she even gave me a lovely hand and arm massage to fill in the time. My expectations were definitely met and exceeded and I am SO happy I came across this business. I rebooked for the same package before I left as I can't see me going anywhere else.

I was charged $60 for SNS nails which is more than I thought it would be but I did not want to complain as the nail tech seemed adamant about the price. Was charged $5 for removal of shellac and $10 for cuticle care (more on cuticle treatment below) plus another $5 for getting two colours of SNS instead of one (no other nail salon has charged me more as it's the same process and time used it's just using another pot of powder). The nail tech didn't listen to me after I'd given strict instructions of which nails I needed to keep long to play music with and which ones I wanted shortened and CLIPPED off one of my long ones. Proceeded to put a tip on without apologising, appeared to want the mistake to go unnoticed. Used the nail drill and acetone when taking off shellac and burned my skin numerous times with the drill. I didn't realise I needed to ask for my cuticle tended to and wasn't told the cost when asked. Burned my skin in numerous places and clipped raw skin off in parts. Very rushed and painful. Used the drill way more than I've seen another nail tech use it and as my nails are already so thin, I'm worried they've been damaged. The shape is uneven and the edges are not uniform and jagged in parts. There was SNS powder stained on various fingers. My cuticles are also a mess. Didn't offer moisturiser at the end of the treatment, it was just on the desk where I paid and I had to ask what it was and whether I could use it. Thoroughly disappointed with my service and I'll never return. Please stop asking your clients to write you a good review for 15 percent off. It's shameful and you won't learn where your nail technicians need to improve.

Rather they spent time concentrating on the task and provided some advice. One girl was quite funny once I started the convo and the other quickly picked up on the fact that I like to keep my beauty routine quite natural and suggested I use fresh aloe Vera to calm the skin. Both were very thorough and made sure the job was done right. I've had half assed waxes before, but not here. It's easy to get into an appointment on the same day and they have late opening hours too The price is totally right with half leg and underarm costing only $40!
