Stopped at Jafs during our cruise ship visit. The location is close walking distance to the cruise port. It notes on their sign that they have "probably the best fish and chips in the world" and I must say, the fish was crispy and very flavorful. The fish and chips come with fish, fries and your choice of dipping sauce. The small order has 1 piece of fish, two for medium, and three for the large. They also have a selection of burgers as well. Service was a little slow after we ordered, but it was worth the wait. That being said, There was a solid line to order the entire time we were there! There are tables and seating available outdoors or you can take away. We would defiantly recommend and would come back again. read more

Prior to visiting Ålesund, I was scoping this place out for my one of my dinner plans during my visit because I just love fish and chips and I was really excited to see that this fish n' chip shack was super close to the hotel I was staying at. JaFs has an outdoor seating patio, but they're also very close to a nice public area with lots of other seating options. I ordered a medium size fish and chips (comes with 2 pieces of fish) with the garlic aioli sauce (separate charge) and my mum ordered their chicken nuggets which came with chips and a salad. I also ended up adding a side salad to my order... for health . They also sell burgers, ice cream, and frosty chocolate milkshakes, but I didn't go for any of that stuff because I just wanted to try their secret fishy family recipe. The food took a pretty long time to prepare, so get ready to wait especially if there's a lot of customers in line, but they make everything fresh to order, so I can't complain! I got my entire order and everything was nice and hot. The fish was very soft and flaky while the fried outer batter shell was very crisp and flavorful. The fish was great and I would totally recommend it, definitely a unique flavor unlike any fried fish I'd had before! The chips on the other hand, were a little on the dryer side, and not to my liking, but I'm a really big fan of my frenchies, so I may be a wittle judgmental when it comes to rating fries that please me, but nonetheless, they were still good, especially when you drown and soak them in the generous pool of rich and pungent garlic aioli sauce. My mom's nuggets were good enough, they were as hot and fresh as my fish order. But they were just normal nuggs, not much to rave about, just an option for those ichtyophobes who might be dropping by for a snack or being forced to eat here because their other friends or family members really wanted to come here and they were just tagging along for the ride. Overall, if I ever came back to visit Ålesund in the future, JaFs would definitely be on my list of places to have another bite. read more

Nice place for Beer and pub food the people are so nice there. I do recommend this place if you are in the area.

I though it was busy because it was the only place open on Sunday. I was wrong. It was busy because everybody loves their fast service and excellent food. My wife and I just split a massive plate of fish and chips. Both were excellent. read more

Excellent fish and chips. Well, that is, the fish is beyond EXCELLENT. The French chips and ketchup are so-so. Oh well, who cares about "French fries," right? If they're not Idaho, they're not going to be that good anyway... The batter on the fish is very peppery. Like the black pepper kind. They batter the fish right there and it is served hot! Honestly, this is the best "fish" and chips I've ever had. Which is just great ... another place I love that is unrealistically far from home!! This place is super easy to find. Yum! In Ålesund for one day and wanted a casual, easy meal. This little kiosk is a high quality treasure! Two large fish and chips was more than enough to feed three adults. The fish is so flaky and fresh and not too oily or fried. French fries were also very good and not overly greasy or anything. Need to pay for sauce. The aioli was very good, the tartare was overly garlicky. Had to wait a bit for the food but it's worth the wait. Would recommend for an easy but fresh and yummy option. The front of the kiosk doesn't say Jafs but the back door has the name on it. They also serve burgers and other things but come for the fish and chips! read more

Good solid fish or meat-patty mains, incredibly salty fries, and weird sauces. We had the house special fish and chips, which was advertised as having house-made "røre"; that turned out to be batter, and was actually quite good. We also tried the løvstek --- nothing to do with liver, it's a cube steak (think an un-battered, un-fried chicken fried steak). One gristly bit, but actually quite good. The BBQ spicy fries with the cube steak were absurdity salty, as were the regular ones with the fish; we only managed a handful of each. The sauces were all a little surprising, with extra-thick tartar, a cheesy salad dressing on the steak's tiny side salad, and an oddly lemony sauce for the steak. The mains carried the weight of the meal, though --- definitely a fine chip shop. read more

The line may be long but so worth it. Fish coating is flavorful and perfectly cooked; crisp, not greasy or overly breaded. Fish inside was flaky with a mild fish flavor. Chips were also cooked and seasoned perfectly. Staff was friendly and helpful in getting the orders out. read more

I'm not a connesieur by any means, but the fish n chips was the best I've ever had. The fries were very salty but tasty. It's a nice place for an easy lunch while looking out at the water. Just watch out for the pigeons; they never left our side. read more
