Well this all started with a bit of a dilemma here, our favourite curry provider in northfield…read morehappens to be take away only so we thought we'd venture onto the high street and try Omar's after receiving a pretty good takeaway from them previously. Why did we wait so long? The decor insode is flush with blue and purple soft lighting and drapes, the waiters were very polite and straight on hand to help with your every need. The menu, well, we'd promised it was a quick bite but starters, mains sides and a forced down desert argued with that one (doggie bags for the left over mains were a life saver!). A range of unusual chefs specials suitable for both veggies and meat eaters alongside the standard brummie curry choices (dopiaza, rogan josh, tikka, bhuna etc...) meant we needed an extra 10 minutes to narrow it down from one of everything on the menu to what we actually wanted! As a sample menu example my choices consisted of: poppadums with mango chutney, mint yoghurt, lime pickle and tomato chilli mixed tikka starter for one Keema meatball curry with extra green chillies (just wow!) garlic pilau rice cheese and chilli naan and a pistachio kulfi to finish (only because we could, there was no room left at this point!) Cobra and Tiger beers were readily available alongside a small selection of spirits. A repeat trip may well be needed to sample the mango lassi here (I'm sure there will be no complaints if the rest of the experience is as good as this vist was)

I have driven by the BG many times and always wanted to give a try. The sign boasts Premier Indian…read moreDining and to me that means expensive therefore I've had to wait for a special occasion. Saturday night, the kids didn't want to join us so that was special enough for me. We hadn't booked, I rarely do and on the way there because the BG's location is out of town and also on a busy dual carriageway I wondered if it was going to be too quiet. On arriving the car park suggested I would have a bit of company and so it turned out, I guess that it was two thirds full when we sat down at around 7.30pm. First impressions aren't great; outside a little gardening and a few plants wouldn't go amiss but there is a great view overlooking an adjacent field that they could exploit. Inside is ok, not great but clean with the common contemporary hard walls & floor decor which is a little cold for my taste, fortunately there was a good vibe on the night that made up for it. We chose our table and were presented with menus that were held together with sticky tape and well beyond their best, very poor. Poppadoms and drinks arrived promptly and were accompanied with a nice variety of dips & salad. We duly placed our order with the advice of our waiter. Starters. The sheek kebab, not bad, a little dry, slightly powdery texture with no fried onions. The onoin bhaji was very good, nicely spiced and fresh. Unfortunately the salad with both starters was basic by any standards. Mains. On our (possibly inexperienced) waiiter's recommendation I opted for the Naga Chicken, I'll be honest I like a Madras but with the fearsome reputation of the Naga chilli I was wondering if I would regret my choice. As it happens I did, not because it was too hot, just the opposite, it was a pale, peppery dish that had little depth of flavour or heat. My wife's bhuna with a little spinach turned out to be a Sagwalla with a little extra spinach. Both were edible but not what the waiter led us to think we had ordered, pity! The fried rice & garlic & coriander nan were good, the frozen chips average. We were tempted by a desert and shared a White Box off one of those bought in menus. I'm not a fan of these but this one was actually very good and worth the few pennies extra. So overall not good, Premier Dining it isn't and to be fair this is reflected in the prices which are only just a little above average. Taking all into account, slightly better than has been reviewed elsewhere but barely three stars. It could easily be better and I did offer my comments to the waiter which have hopefully gone through the management & kitchen
