rWe decided on an early dinner. Excellent Burgers n fries all windows are sea views. valet parking if you need it.

Jake's Del Mar was our family's favorite meal while visiting the San Diego area! The ambience was stunning, especially around sunset with the beach right in front of us. We started with the ceviche and calamari, and both were really fresh and yummy. For my main meal, I went with the lemon garlic roasted fish, and it was delicious! For dessert, we had the famous Hula Pie, and our table of 3 could barely finish it. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Service was also friendly and fast. Overall, an amazing place for a sunset dinner!

Spicy Cucumber Margarita

I chose this place for lunch because of its location. It's so hard to find restaurants that are truly right on the sand, so that's definitely a huge bonus here. And if you can get a table in the dining room along the beach, even better. Definitely worth the wait. We started lunch with two mai tais, and they were absolutely fabulous -- classic all the way. The food, however, is where the restaurant didn't really shine. They seemed to play it safe. If you prefer lighter, more understated flavors, this may be the perfect place for you. We started with the ceviche. The guacamole had turned color and didn't seem very fresh, but overall it was still a light and decent starter. For my entrée, I ordered what was essentially a cioppino, even though they call it something else on the menu. The mussels tasted slightly off, though the two pieces of fish were tender and nicely cooked. Unfortunately, the dish really lacked flavor, and I ended up having to salt it heavily. Our waitress was wonderful -- very sweet, attentive, and diligent throughout the meal. Overall, this is a great spot for the atmosphere, drinks, and staff. While the food didn't particularly impress me flavor-wise, the beachfront setting alone makes it worth visiting.

Ceviche- fresh and tasty, I would order again!

Pretty damn nice view of the Pacific Beach here and decided to take myself out after a pretty grueling couple of weeks of work, which included weekends. I like my work immensely, but also need to recharge too. My motto in life is, "work hard, play harder, you only got this one life, make it count." I asked chatGPT to find me a place in Del Mar that has sick ocean views and no matter how I asked chatGPT this question, Jake's kept popping up as number one. I needed some lunch so came in here after 3pm, and it was closer to happy hour. As soon as you walk in, you just see the ocean and it just calms you. I sat down at the bar and it wasnt too busy but with a few people. This place is for grown ups, so act like one. It had a laid back, ocean vibe so very relaxed for sure. Bartender very professional, and very courteous. Poured me a blonde to get started and gave me time to chose my food. There is happy hour here but not too many selections. Today, it was choices of some of flatbreads and a salad and I wasnt interested. Happy hour only Mon - Wed anyways. I wasnt terribly hungry so ordered the ceviche. I love fish, doesn't matter how you make it, as long as its good, I will like it. Ceviche was spot on fresh and yummy and appreciate a bit of avocado added. It was the perfect snack, while watching the ocean view and washing it all down with an ice cold blonde. A perfect gown up way to spend the afternoon celebrating life and how gorgeous Mother Nature is. There is valet parking here which is $8 and peak times $10. I was able to find free 2 hour parking on the street though. Bathroom was clean and everything about this place would bring me back in again. I cant wait to show off this place to friends and family when they come visit me!

Great spot for a birthday dinner!!! Let's start with dessert first... a hula pie. The pie was on the house for the birthday and man we ate that pie. The fudge was thicc and melted in your mouth with the hazelnut ice cream. I think it was an Oreo type crust of some sort??? Idk it was great. For the table we had halibut ceviche, amazing donkey kick to the mouth of heat. All of us were stoked on our mains, we had short ribs, seafood pot, burger, scallops, tuna steak. All cooked to perfection and balanced nicely. My tuna steak was perfectly rare. The server did let us know next week they are having a menu turn over so some dishes may not be there. Can't wait to come back next year.

Coconut Espresso Martini

Amazing!!!:D this espresso martini is by far the BEST! IVE EVER HAD! The coconut purée was house made! The burger was perfectly cooked! And nothing beats their Brussels sprouts Come here during sunset! The views are incredible! The interior design of this place really ties in the perfect beach vibes! The bartenders make incredible drinks and are very attentive!!

Hula Pie with the dessert-specific spork!

This was the best dinner we have had in a long time. Service was super attentive and the food was spot on. We started the meal with the Brussels sprouts and calamari. The calamari was so light and crisp but the slightly spicy chili sauce was the star. Best calamari I've ever had! For dinner, we had the scallops and ahi tuna. The ahi was seasoned to perfection and the sides were also great, but the best dish of the night was the scallops. They were perfectly seared and silky on the inside. We finished the meal with the Hula Pie which we split between 3 people. It was delicious and I especially loved the spork it was served with. All in all, a great dinner and we will definitely be back!

Amazing food, service and ambiance. The ocean crashing just outside. This is a must try place

Huevos Rancheros* and Eggs Benedict*
Hannah S.

One star awarded for the gorgeous view. Brunch however- not so gorgeous. Food was actively off-putting. My company reported that the avocado toast was, to word it nicely, hard to eat. Bread was stale and avocado was nowhere to be found. Huevos rancheros were "mediocre, at best." Among the array of floppy eggs Benedicts and sans-avocado toasts was the stomachable seafood chowder. Hip-hip! Horray! Anyways, I will not be returning to Jake's anytime soon. Certainly not for brunch.

Food: Great service and nice patio setting. Ordered Calamari for an appetizer,. At first I thought they were bringing mozzarella sticks but the calamari is in strips, heavily breaded with a sweet sauce, it's good. I ordered the cosmetics chowder with bread, it was delicious. My friend ordered the short ribs with mashed potatoes. We both ordered drinks and finished our dinner with dessert, ice cream mud pie, it was delicious! Service: Excellent, friendly and professional Ambiance: Beautiful views if in the patio Noteworthy: Valet available since e parking is difficult in the street

Whole experience was awesome! Got a great table by a window - can't beat a dining experience with a breeze and a view! Went with a group of 5 and everyone loved their drinks and meal! We shared a lot of the apps - all of which were great! And of course, can't skip dessert! I would recommend this place and go back the next time I'm back in San Diego!

We have been to Jake's several times for brunch, but not for dinner. With as much coastline as SD County has, there aren't a lot of good restaurants on the beach - especially that are at a decent price point - but Jake's is in such a nice spot! The traffic around there can be a nightmare, so plan to go a little earlier than you think you should. They do offer valet parking for a fee, which we have used some of the times we went. Once you get in though, the views are very nice. I suggest making reservations, especially if you want a closer seat to the windows. Overall I think the food there is always pretty good, and the brunch prices are reasonable. The service can be hit or miss, but most times it's been good. Jake's is a great place to take those out of town visitors who want to take in all the ocean views. Hopefully we will make it for dinner one of these days!

Robyn L.

I've been to Jake's a few times for lunch, and while the view of the ocean is wonderful, the food seems very average and a bit pricey. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and service is usually friendly. Last time, I had the mixed seafood pot which was decent but a bit bland and nothing special. My husband had the lemon garlic roasted fish, which was just a tiny piece of fish (I think he was still hungry afterwards). However, it seemed like the mai tai our friend had was pretty good/refreshing. The valet parking was convenient. The restaurant gets pretty busy and it'd probably be good to make a reservation (especially on weekends).

Ask the Community - Jake's

Do they have a private room to rent for 20-25 diners?

Jake's doesnt currently book large parties or events, but it has information on discussing a future event https://jakesdelmar.com/plan-an-event/

Do they have happy hour?

No but they have a brunch menu on the weekends

Valet or self parking?

Yes, it has valet for 7 dollars at jakes, public parking across the street in a lot more.... Go with valet......

What is the corkage fee at Jake's? Thank you!

I believe it is $15.00/bottle

Do you have a patio?

Yes they have a patio that overlooks the water

Do you have breakfast during the week?

Only on Sundays.

Kid-friendly? Can accommodate a big group (~20)?

You would need to make advance plans for a large group. It is a very popular place, and even with a reservation, you can expect to wait. I do believe they have a kids menu but I did not see any children there when we dined there.

Do they have happy hour?

I believe they do, I just have been there for lunch YUM and WONDERFUL in every way.

What time is The happy hour specials?

I am not sure since COVID but it was at 5, go at 5:30 and you will not be disappointed.

What their specialty/ what dish you recommend to eat for dinner?

Three things to recommend: Achiote Roasted Fish; Crusted Ahi; Seared Scallops. A personal favorite is the Fresh Fish Caesar Salad when they have the grilled Norwegian salmon. I order my fish grilled medium rare, which they do nicely.

How is the indoor dining environment when it comes to ventilation, i.e. are the windows as well as doors opened for natural ventilation?

Yes, especially if you are seated by the beach front windows or on the patio

Can our dog comej?

I'm not sure but usually on the patio it's ok.

Do you have to make reservations?

Yes I wouldn't go without one. They might take a few walk ins but this is a reservation spot! Just use OpenTable and it's pretty easy.

Is it dog friendly?

Unless you have a service dog than definitely not. This is a place that is indoors and most people get dressed up to go. There isn't a large patio area and it's upscale. You may want to try a more casual location! Service dogs are accommodated… Read more

A local friend recommended Aqua Mare, so I took my wife and daughter, and invited a few others. We were not disappointed. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by Antonio (mgr). Vittorio waited on our party and Devon (bartender) came by our table ro say "hello." It was our first-time dining at Aqua Mare, but we were treated like regulars. I love it when restaurants are so welcoming. Started with the calamari and the ahi crudo- both excellent. But, the braised beef ravioli was the main attraction. Devon recommended it and it did not disappoint. It's rare that I order ravioli, but this was perhaps the best version I have ever tasted- made from scratch and so flavorful. Ended the meal with limoncello and housemade tiramisu. I would also recommend their martini made with the new premium Austrian rye vodka, NEFT. These were truly superior. Ample, free parking and a lovely sunset view from the dining room. Can't wait to return to Aqua Mare for another memorable meal next time I'm in Del Mar. Bon Appétit!

We started with cocktails, including the Prickly Lady, which was watery and completely tasteless. I then ordered the trio of dips, which were equally underwhelming--nothing memorable or distinctive, and no better than what you could buy at Trader Joe's or throw together in a blender in a couple of minutes. While we were trying our best to enjoy the drinks and appetizers, we also couldn't help but notice the very blah ambiance around us. It was quiet, cold, and insincere. There was truly nothing charming about the place and the whole vibe felt off. That should have been our first red flag, but we tried to ignore it to make the most of our rare date night. For my entrée, I ordered the branzino piccata. This was especially disappointing because branzino is one of my favorite dishes, and when you commit to a whole fish, there's no turning back. While I'm used to navigating bones, I found a bone in nearly every other bite, which made the dish unpleasant to eat. Worse, the fish itself was incredibly dry and completely lacking in flavor, accompanied by nothing more than a few warm cherry tomatoes. There was no cohesive sauce or flavor profile to speak of. Dessert followed the same theme. The s'mores cake was also dry, with a barely-there chocolate ganache center and a marshmallow topping that was honestly laughable. Unfortunately, the food wasn't even the worst part of the evening. At the end of the meal, we were told we could not use a gift card despite having called 24 hours in advance to confirm it would be accepted when we made our reservation. This led to an interaction with the owner and chef that was shocking and completely unprofessional. He caused a scene, raised his voice, and yelled at my husband and me, the paying customers. He repeatedly cut me off mid-sentence while allowing my husband to finish speaking, which felt blatantly disrespectful. When I calmly asked if there was anything he could do for us, given that he's in the hospitality business, his response was simply: "No. You can pay the whole bill and leave." I have truly never been treated this way at any restaurant in my life. Between the consistently dry, flavorless food and the hostile, misogynistic behavior from the owner, I am genuinely shocked this place is still in business. Sadly, the restaurant seems to be run exactly the way the food is cooked--poorly.
