Our first visit to Jake's in Palm Springs was exceptional from start to finish. I accidentally booked my reservation for the wrong Friday, but the manager was incredibly accommodating, fitting us in and even seating us at a better table than I had originally reserved. That level of hospitality immediately impressed us. We started with cocktails, and there was a great selection of creative drinks to choose from. For appetizers, the Crispy Brussels Sprouts were the standout of the meal--I can't recommend them enough. We also enjoyed Jake's Deviled Eggs and the General Tso Cauliflower from the seasonal three-course menu. For our entrées, we ordered the Filet Mignon, Grilled Flank Steak, Rosemary Salmon, and the Penne Alla Checca with Blackened Garlic Chicken. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. We finished with the Key Lime Bar, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Even though we sat on the patio in the middle of summer, it never felt hot. The misting system, plenty of shade, and beautiful greenery made it incredibly comfortable, and once the sun went down, it was absolutely delightful. The service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly and attentive, our drinks and water glasses were always full, and our plates were cleared promptly after each course. Jake's exceeded our expectations in every way. Between the exceptional food, outstanding service, and beautiful patio atmosphere, it's easy to see why it's one of Palm Springs' favorite restaurants. Dinner Time Review! As we continue to venture out and try new restaurants, Jake's was our choice tonight--and it did not disappoint. The hostess was on point and seated us at a great table with a beautiful view. Our server, Chris, was exceptional. If you visit, ask for him--he'll take care of you as if you're the only table in the restaurant. The food was spot on. My husband and I shared the crab cakes, deviled eggs, and steak tartare, and everything was absolutely delicious. For our entrée, we shared the rack of lamb, which was cooked perfectly. As a chef myself, I think a nice touch from the kitchen would have been to plate the dish on two plates rather than providing an extra plate and having me do the sharing--but that's just a small observation. We also enjoyed a perfectly chilled bottle of rosé with dinner, along with a Negroni, and finished the evening with carrot cake for dessert. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. While I'd like to say I loved this place, it's just not possible. We were seated in a small dining room because outdoor seating was full. The servers were very attentive and didn't skip a beat when we needed water refills or had questions. That's about where the stars turned bad. We ordered a shrimp cocktail to start. When it arrived, I noticed the shrimp was undercooked and translucent, not opaque and fresh like it should be. I asked our server to please have the chef cook it more so that we could eat it. Unfortunately, he came back and advised us that the chef refused to cook it longer because he said "it was perfectly done." Since when does a chef not accommodate a request for further cooking??? I was shocked that they didn't understand the concept of customer service. We cancelled the shrimp and ordered the fried chicken deviled eggs. They were interesting and tasty, but it just didn't really work together. I ordered the Steak Wedge for dinner, which consisted of just that -- a tiny filet mignon covered in sauce and half a wedge salad. My sister ordered the meatloaf. It was the strangest meatloaf I've ever seen. The consistency was more like corned beef hash mushed together into patties. She said it had a good taste, but the texture turned her off. The food was just okay, and later that night I ended up getting sick. I can't say it was directly related to my dinner, but I can't imagine what else would have made me ill. We did enjoy the mai tais, but only had one with dinner. When the bill came, the server was quick to point out that they didn't charge us for the shrimp. Well I hope not!!! I recently had lunch here with a friend. Great court-yard patio scene on cool-mild days. The first time I ate at Jake's was in the early 2000s. I did not recall the gorgeous setting. Jake's is a beautiful place to dine. Now for the food. I really enjoyed the Seawich sandwich. A tempura- like filet sole. The fish is fresh and delicious with heirloom tomatoes, mixed greens, spicy Cole slaw, caper aioli, on a brioche bun. I was pleased to see a lot of greens in the sandwich. There is also a side of homemade chips. A yummy lunch. Peto, our server was excellent! Peto made sure that we were enjoying our meal and drink(s). Thank you Peto for the friendly and prompt table service! Up front, the hosts are friendly too. There is also dessert you can order to take home in the display cases. Thursday nite we had 6 pm reservations and we were the first ones to walk in. It was 104 degrees outside, we and 2 other couples arrived about 10 minutes early. There was a ton of staff inside yet they refused to unlock the doors even 1 minute prior to 6 and let their patrons get out of the heat and wait in the waiting area. Very poor customer care. Then they tried to seat us outside when we asked for indoors, then we asked for a table out of the pathway and refused said all the other tables are booked. Mind u, no one else was in the entire restaurant yet they could not accommodate to provide an acceptable table as one of us was on a walker. We asked to speak to general manager since we are regular patrons and she knows us . We experienced a very poor unforgettable experience there on new years eve. When she was unwilling to give us, the first people being seated in an empty restaurant we had no choice but to leave and never return until management is changed. Jake's is pretty much perfect. A must-have brunch/lunch every time we are in Palm Springs. The cocktails are unique and the food is both delicious and reasonably priced. This latest go round included the fried chicken sandwich and the oatmeal cake which honestly might have been one of the best pieces of cake that I've had in my life. The four of us stopped by Jake's Palm Springs for dessert for the first time, and it did not disappoint! The entire experience was top-notch from start to finish. The wait staff were absolutely amazing -- clearly well-trained in true hospitality. Everyone we interacted with was engaging, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. We tried the chocolate cake and vanilla caramel dessert, both delicious! Sadly, the coconut cake had sold out (looks like we'll need to come earlier next time -- it must be a hit!). We had a lovely dining experience from the ambiance to the food, and the servers/host. We were a group of 6 and some of our friends who have been to this restaurant were commenting on how they were pleasantly surprised with the window wall that now blocks the view of the parking lot--you would never know. We started off with some fun cocktails like Thoes of Passion and Passionate Paloma. Our group had such a wonderful time, and the Chilean Sea Bass was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection! We ordered the General Tso Cauliflower appetizer and gobbled it up. We also ordered the Roasted Olives and fought over who would get the last olive! A couple of other dishes folks ordered was the Steak Wedge Main and a Steak Wedge Salad which they too thoroughly enjoyed. Service was good and very friendly, albeit maybe a touch slow at times when it seemed that servers "switched" on us. Restaurant didn't seem crowded. Food was really good. Their famous "deserts", however, seemed like a bit of a letdown. Cake was dry ... such a bummer because it looked wonderful in the display case. All in all, this is a good choice. We have seen this place driving by several times over the last couple years but never even thought about it. A friend recommended it so we decided to try several weeks ago and so glad we did. The courtyard seating is beautiful and the whole layout is really well done. We tried the burger and it was amazing as was the quesadilla and the wrap. We went to a lot of perfectly fine meals in Palm Springs, but few excellent ones. This brunch at Jake's was excellent. The ambience is really nice - a lot of little rooms that feel like separate but connected dining experiences - most of them indoor/outdoor. We sat outside on the Lanai which was quiet and pleasant. I had the OAXACAN OLD FASHION which was one of the best cocktails I have had in quite some time. Smoky, sweet, with actual squares of dark chocolate in it. Believe what the menu says about slow cocktail service - my drink did actually come out after my meal was halfway over, but it was a nice after service. After a string of recent mediocre meals and service, I must say that my wife and I were skeptical about the reviews on Jake's. We had an absolutely fabulous meal! The service was also great. My wife ordered a dirty martini with Tito's and it was phenomenal. The Chilean Seabass was melt in your mouth great, and flank steak w chimichurri are what we had for dinner and we were not disappointed. The building is am old bungalow with a large courtyard and a small inclosed room off to the side when you come in. When making your reservation I suggest getting something in the courtyard it is amazing for those Palm Springs evenings. The small inclosed room is a killer to the person sitting facing the sun during sunset. It has a great vibe but one of the downside is finding parking which is out of their control. The food was good decent size portions, service was good. Drinks looked amazing and my friends said they were good. I did not try them personally because I was the designated driver that night. The desserts were amazing brought a few back to the hotel room to try later. Next time I want to try the Sunday brunch and not be the designated driver. read more

This time we came after leaving a disappointing reservation at another restaurant and knew that we could salvage the night at Jake's. Wow. I have had Jake's in my Apple Maps guide for quite some time after sooo many people suggested it. After going, I will now be one of those people. I cannot SHUT UP about it. This review is long overdue. One night, my boyfriend and I wandered in, sat at the bar and sat next to the most fabulous couple. They suggested everything, from main course items, to drinks, to dessert. It felt like a guided tour de Jake's! We got EVERYTHING they told us to-- and they weren't wrong or off in the slightest. Wow. Just wow. A culinary experience and a bartenders dream to go out. Their bar set up was wildly admirable from a fellow bartenders perspective. Very clean, tidy and orderly. Plus the bartenders personality was never a performance, and wasn't pushy or overbearing at all, which can sometimes happen. Whoever owns or is running this joint, deserves a round of applause. We were thrilled with the service, food and ambiance and I'm not just saying that due to Yelp, I was truly impressed. When food and drinks cost an arm and a leg these days in this economy, and in this uncertain world of unprecedented times , you want to go out and relax and know that your money is going towards something you will enjoy and not regret when the bill comes. After years of hearing raves, and a canceled reservation due to a nasty storm 3 years ago, my husband & I finally made it to Jake's for Valentine's Day, and it did not disappoint. We played it safe this time and made reservations inside. The dining room is pleasant and unpretentious, but I must admit their porch, side patio & courtyard seating provides an even lovelier atmosphere. Next time! Now to the food. I cannot say enough. I started with calamari. It was light and tender with two wonderful sauces (one of them a Vietnamese nuac cham that I literally wanted to drink); my husband started with his favorite appetizer, steak tartare, and he practically licked the plate clean. My entree was the best Chilean sea bass I've ever had. Light, with a perfect sear and yummy miso-yaki glaze, on top of creamy mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked asparagus. My husband had the tagliatelle bolognese. I grabbed a taste and it was superb with perfectly cooked pasta. Photos below. The service was exceptional and not rushed. Some might have found it a tad slow but the place was full and I loved being able to take a little time with our Valentine's Day dinner. Water glasses filled routinely and a couple of "check-ins" to see if we needed anything. The restauraunt is what I'd call upscale unpretentious, but I wouldn't call it expensive. Hard not to order dessert first because you walk past this spectacular array of cakes and cookies and bars! We sat in the bar on the patio and had a great time with Billy our waiter. He makes a fantastic cocktail! I had the "Fish Sandwich" it featured Sole - OMG - TDF! It was spectacular. We also shared the arugula date burrata salad... it had a little too sweet of a balsamic dressing for me. It was good not my favorite though. And of course, we had to share the payday bar and the citrus cake, which were completely delightful. What an amazing great food and service! This was my first time here and came with friends who hadn't been there in a about a year and we all said we would come back with no doubt. We started with a Pinot Noir meant is and deviled eggs. If my mom had made these like this growing up it would have been one of my favorites! What a great twist but in a good way on deviled eggs. For entrees we had the fish (I don't remember what my friend had), my other friend had chicken piccata and I had chicken Milanese. I mentioned the oversight to the manager and he just brushed off the situation without doing anything. Our entrees finally came and later two cups of replacement coffee made their presence.
