Sweet deal for happy hour! Came on a Thursday around 6pm and it was relatively empty. HH ends at 7pm with $6 rails and $4 off crushed on Thursday! They also have a $5 off food deal for chicken tenders and fries. My orange crush was awesome!! They make it with fresh squeezed juice which you can tell and it's STRONG. I only had one and it was all I needed. Nice chill vibe and friendly staff. Small back patio and seems like a popular game to watch games. Really picked up and got more crowded around 8pm. Went on a Wednesday, Ribs were the special. Full rack and 2 sides was a great deal, compared to other places. I ordered a salad and green beans. Salad was large and had some tomatoes and cukes, but alot of spring mix. However, I ate that and when the ribs came out, it was on two plates! The rack of ribs were huge! Fall off the bone and a good BBQ sauce. Nice portion of green beans, that I didn't even eat, but took home to eat with the other half rack of ribs. So I had dinner for a second night. Came here to watch a Monday night football game and was pleasantly surprised. I got the fried shrimp & fried catfish with fries and it was amazing. The seafood was fresh and fried to perfection. I'm so glad I ended up at this spot!!! What a find! The bartender was awesome. She was super nice and helpful. The place was not crowded at all. We came here because the burger place we went turned us away due to be full. So we walked and found this spot. I ordered the Jake's Crush in orange. It was so refreshing and so good. I also ordered the Sloop Burger and added Bacon. Let me tell you. This was one of the best burgers I ever had. The guacamole and Mayo was spilling out....so good!! The fries....amazing! I don't know what kind of fries and how they cook them but they are awesome! My son loved his Ace Burger. We were stuffed. I actually really liked this place. It's definitely a little bit of a dive bar, but they have gold fish, and the beer is fresh.

Jake's is a small neighborhood sports bar with a nice backyard patio. It's a good spot to grab a beer with friends, watch a game or hang on the outdoor patio. Pros - friendly staff (Marissa and chris were great) - solid wings - good bar food - good beer selection - dog friendly patio (they'll even bring you water for your furry friends) - outside TV Cons - could use music in the back patio Overall, i recommend Jake's for a casual drink with friends and some solid bar food. Cute little bar, ended up going into here when the beer garden down the street was busy. The drinks are decent - the lemon drop shots are good but the green tea shots weren't. There is indoor and outdoor seating, there were dogs outside. The bathrooms were large and clean. Went on st Patrick's day, food was delicious, drinks had a good pour and fair price, service was great. There's a juke box to play to music and such, was fun for our group of 20-something's, but there was also somebody there with a baby. So I'd call that good for all ages. read more

Jake's - a new neighborhood bar that opened recently on 7th. The space is nice, long bar, some tables and lots of TVs. Drafts and wine (and maybe cocktails) are $1 off during HH. Food is ok, not great. Fried pickles were my favorite, mozz tots (fried mozzarella bites) came out cold and were served with a sauce that tasted like a salsa/marinara mix, and chorizo cheese fries were underwhelming (cheese sauce and bad chorizo on thick cut fries). Overall, a fine spot to go for a drink, but they still need time to get the kitchen sorted. read more

Came here from out of town with friends, and ended up getting choked by a drunk woman who couldn't control herself. There were no consequences, and seems like a bar just worrying about young people getting drunk and out of control to seem like a "cool" go to bar. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Absolutely rude establishment. I walk in with my mom who is a tourist to this city from Germany. A Hispanic female behind the bar tries to shut me down while I'm talking by repeating "bar closed, bar closed." I'm like, "if you'd listen, I'm not trying to sit by the bar. I'd like to know if the patio is open." Lady says no, so I'm like, is the restaurant closed or..." she just gives me a blank stare and gets on her phone and then goes and talks to some of her friends at A table, WHO ARE EATING. There are people here who have just left with food so I'm very confused at the treatment I'm receiving. My mom ushers me to leave before I flip out. I have never received such rude and dismissive customer service. If you don't want anyone in your damn restaurant, then turn off your open sign and lock the door. The bartender was very nice but the food was awful. Not to be mean but it was simply awful. The taco meat was full of chewy gristle (stuck in my teeth until the ride home) and had no flavor, the wings were dipped in a sauce that smelled rancid, and the tastiest part of the burger was the ketchup. The beers were too expensive for this to be a dive bar so I'm not sure what their angle is. Not trying to be mean but I suggest steering clear of this place overall (it even has a weird smell). read more

Went to watch the Women's NCAA final game and sorry that I did. We left so we could stop spending money there. There was only 1 person working on the floor, the bartender and while nice, she only served one side of the bar basically the whole time. As the game started, the place was packed and she was making drinks, running food, clearing tables and taking orders. I felt bad for her, but where was the manager or owner to help out? I did hear another patron, who seemed like a regular, tell her that he texted Jake and he was on the way (this was at 3:06), but didnt seem urgent as he did not arrive until close to 4. At one point, there were 7 people at the end of the bar with empty glasses and dirty dishes in front of them. I asked her a refill on a drink, and it took 25mins for her to remember and give me one. The food was ok - wings were good. The mac n cheese was not creamy and though the menu clearly says that there were 2 sizes available, we were told that there was only one. We went to the beer garden to get better service. I understand that Jakes opened fairly recently, and I suggest waiting to go there until they have their kinks worked out. I came for a burger around lunchtime with some friends and ended up spending most of the day there. Jason was great behind the bar. Stopped in yesterday and will definitely be coming back soon. It's an adorable place with great service (they're friendly, relaxed, and on top of it). And, the food was delicious! We had the wings, grilled cheese, and accidentally were given a chicken sandwich. *Every single dish was great.* They're some of the best wings we've had in DC and their fries are this magical mix of a fry/chip - a frip? - extra crispy, garlicky, and addictive. We also tried out the house pilsner, which was surprisingly good (I tend to find the quality of house beers is a gamble!). Extremely disappointed to learn about what the owners of this bar did to the people that made Jakes what it was. Receiving funding - and doing god knows what with it because it certainly wasn't used to compensate their staff - and yet still choosing to lay off loyal, hardworking employees in the midst of an already trying time is a horrible way to run a business, and is a blatant disregard for everything this bar once stood for. As someone who was at this bar almost every single day without fail, I will never set foot in this bar ever again knowing the decisions ownership made and the pain that my now unemployed friends are feeling. Jake's has been a neighborhood staple for quite some time by creating a space that feels like home with above and beyond staff. Covid has take a hard hit on small businesses like Jakes Tavern and when I heard they received funding I was relieved- the staff who had become such great friends would finally receive some compensation. However, the ownership kept the money, fired all existing staff to replace with new servers. I am so sad and disappointed the loyal bartenders and staff who made this tavern what it is were completely disregarded. Do better, Jake's Tavern. We are so disappointed and will not be returning back to our once go- to gathering space. read more

Bar staff use "retarded" as an insult at this bar and everyone should know that. I for the most part only write positive reviews, because I think there's too much negativity out there. A place has to be truly egregious for me to write a negative review, and that's exactly what I found at Jake's Tavern last night. We were there for several hours watching the national championship game and caused zero issues. After the game, my friend unplugged the TV. That's it. That's all that happened. She apologized, but one of the bartenders absolutely lost it at the group. It's hard to choose the most offensive part of his rant, but I think I'll settle on him calling us retarded. It is 2020 and at this point, EVERYONE should know better. Are you really going to use such a derogatory term about the special needs community as an insult? As someone who has worked closely with individuals with special needs, I find this DEEPLY disturbing, disgusting and ignorant. He also called multiple members of the group bitches, and when the guys stood up for the girls he was saying this to, he escalated the situation by threatening to fight various members of the group--including the girls.
