Medium jerk chicken minus a piece of chicken.
    Aja G.

I ordered two medium jerk chicken dinners. The chicken was very tender and seasoned to perfection. The dinner comes with rice and peas and cabbage also very good. They are very generous with the amount of food for a medium. I would dine here again. The lady at the register was friendly.

I've been here twice now. The first time, I ordered a small oxtail (they no longer offer this size). It was flavorful but I wish it was meatier. It seemed like the pieces I got were mostly bone, little meat. Second time I ordered a medium jerk chicken. Very flavorful, it had a bit of spice, but not unbearably hot. All of their entrees come with rice and peas and cabbage which is to die for! Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant.

It was ok, I've definitely had better Jamaican food. I really dislike the green but they ran out of cabbage. I would try it again. I like the fact it's in Garfield and I don't have to drive far to get Jamaican food.

Small oxtail, cabbage, rice and peas.

I take my food very seriously and I didn't get all these curves from playing around. When I tell you this is some of the BEST Jamaican Food I've EVER had, I mean it! This cabbage is legendary and this rice and peas will be dancing in my dreams, baby. I ordered a "medium" jerk chicken to start and it comes with rice and peas and cabbage. It's a huge portion of food for a medium- it's in a standard large styrofoam box and cane with two breast pieces and a thigh. The jerk chicken is so moist and well seasoned with a hint of that really nice grill flavor. He was able to customize the heat level for me (I like it pretty dang spicy-the way jerk should be) and the sauce he pours over the chicken and rice is incredible. I also got a "small" oxtail that came with rice and peas, cabbage, and four oxtails (two on the medium side and two on the smaller side). I'm literally licking my fingers as I'm typing this. It took all I had not to eat the bones too! Aside from the flavor, the second best part is that I got ALL of this for $17! Like, what?!?! The food here is fresh, flavorful, and truly, authentically Jamaican. The conversation was great, the food was amazing, and I'm so excited they've made a home in Garfield Heights. I will be back again and again!

They have put their own spin on flavors. Rice needs to be fluffier with more seasoning. Less sweetness in cabbage. Oxtails were not falling off the bone tender. Thicker sauce with pepper corns not bad on jerk chicken.

Very sadly, I just saw that the two other locations are closing immediately, just 1 day after our Valentine's Day dinner at the Larchmere location - now officially, the only one left standing. The Lakewood Barroco was in my top 5 favorite restaurants in all of Cleveland and I am super bummed. I hope this last location will stay open for a very long time. As for the Barroco food, it was superb. We went all out and tried a few things on the menu. We aren't big drinkers but I sipped on a strawberry mojito with lots of real strawberries throughout ($14) and my bf enjoyed the "Iguana," a pretty little rum cocktail ($12). We shared the shrimp device and tostones appetizer ($18). The tostones reminded me of a structurally sound latke, or potato pancake! Our shrimp ceviche was doused in lemon juice and mixed with lots of healthy vegetables. This was large enough to be an entree for a healthy eater! However, we still had lots of room in our tummies and we each got our own main dish. I stuck to the arepa and yucca fries combo I love so much, although I switched it up and ordered a different arepa than my usual. I liked my "Ropa Vieja," or braised beef arepa ($22), fine but I prefer my usual pulled pork arepa much much more. The braised beef arepa was like a sloppy Joe in an arepa. Made for pretty good leftovers though! My beloved was feeling adventurous and treated himself to a nice and fatty cut of the Carne Asada and Calentado entree ($38). After tax and tip, our bill was a hefty $130 for the two of us. I'd say that the food, the service, and the ambiance made it worth it though and I hope it continues to stay open so we can come back!!

The restaurant is spacious and colorful, perfect for anything from casual to celebratory! The flavor of the plantains and arepas was great! Large portion and great presentation as well. I thought it was a little bit on the pricier side but worth it for good flavors and service.
