I used to get my hair cut at a local barbers but thought I'd try a hairdressers instead. James Whitaker Hair has been around for a while so I thought I'd give them a try. I'm glad I did. They are all skilled stylists and give great advice and options for personalising my hairstyle. They are polite, friendly and I always look forward to getting my hair cut by them. read more

Est in 2003 by James Whitaker, the salon has grown to be an award winning boutique salon in North London. Recently the team picked up Best Hair Salon in the EN Magazine Best Local Business Awards 2014 to add to the accolades from 2013 such as Best London Hair Salon and Salon of the Year in The English Hair & Beauty Awards.

Meet the Business Owner: James W.

James started cutting hair at the Toni and Guy London Academy in 1991. He soon started to specialise in men's hair design and worked at several London salons before opening James Whitaker Hair in 2003. After a few years and with a great team behind him, the salon moved into women's hair as well as men. James is very active with marketing of the salon on social media and has an active role in the local community.

I found A&H Beauty through a google search and took a risk mostly because they had photographs of their previous work online. Esther did my hair and she works quickly and is so good and cares about the quality of her work. Her salon is basic, but that's no big deal for braiding. She offers you hot and cold drinks and is so pleasant - I usually don't like to chat when getting my hair done but I was happy to chat to Esther. The main thing is the hair, three weeks on and the cornrows are still nice and neat and I've washed them every week. She asked me to drop the hair extensions round the day before my appointment to prep the hair and it was all ready and waiting so we could get going straight away on the day.

After year of bungled haircuts at several Enfield Salons, I was reluctant to go and try anywhere else. But after visiting James Whitaker with my fiance for his hair cut, and witnessing James' skill as a stylist, I booked myself in with Lisa. This was over a year ago and I have never regretted that choice! James and his team create a welcoming, friendly atmosphere and offer a range of services and with his experienced stylists for fantastic prices. Every time I visit I feel that Lisa understands completely what I want done, and makes it happen. She has also given me great advice as to how to keep my hair looking healthy. The products they use and sell in store are also great quality - the Mythic Oil range is great and the new UNITE products look even better! I can't recommend them all highly enough. They won 'Best salon of the year' at the English Hair and Beauty Awards last year and deservedly so - all I can say is book in and see for yourself! read more

Just got back from my first ever cut at James Whitaker love it! Fancied a change from my usual hairdresser, and got some great advice from the hairdresser at JW (was it Lisa? Didn't find out her name!) about what sort of style would suit me best and she fixed up my terrible Claudia Winkleman fringe, lol! I'm rubbish with anything to do with hair, but now I feel a bit more informed about what works for me and what doesn't. Very friendly atmosphere, very easy to find, great prices (and good deals for first time customers and recommendations!) and just generally a nice place. Will definitely be going back there for my next haircut, and recommending to other Enfieldians to try it too! :) My hair now looks great for my night out, and the new style will actually suit me better in the long term too, so woohoo! I live around the corner from James Whitaker Hair so it's too easy for me to get my haircut there. Thing is, I'd still be going there even if I moved miles away. James is always friendly and has time for a chat, and Donna, who usually cuts my hair, is great at what she does and a lot of fun at the same time. I never spend my time having dull conversation and am always happy with my cut. They're not the cheapest but they're not expensive. You get what you pay for and these are well trained people. If you want a buzz cut, there are plenty of barbers around Enfield. If you want to pay a little more than that for a quality cut, then check them out. read more

I have my hair cut & coloured at James's salon and would highly recommend their services to my friends and family. The salon is friendly, comfortable and above all they know what they're doing and unlike most hairdressers they listen to what you want!
