One of the places in the South that I always go back to is Jang Ga Nae, which was one of the first Korean restaurants in the area. BF has a lot of Koreans, and they have managed to turn the El Grande and Aguirre stretch into a cluster of Korean restaurants and groceries. It is not difficult to find good Korean food, and Jang Ga Nae was a fun discovery because we followed the "dine where the locals go" route. In that case, we "dined where the Koreans went."
My friends and I prefer Jang Ga Nae because they are generous with their ban chan, or the colorful and yummy side dishes that they serve together with the all you can eat dishes of bacon, pork belly and other slices of beef that you grill on indoor smokeless pan on your table. The staff is very helpful with the orders, and they promptly refill the banchan when you run out of kimchi, pancakes, salads and other flavorful appetizers.
They are also quite generous with the lettuce leaves and the rice that you wrap the pork slices with, which is always good because other Korean restaurants can get quite stingy. A samgyupsal night at Jang Ga Nae is always fun! read more
