My friend and I stopped in from our way back from Yosemite. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich which was so large. I took half of it home to eat for dinner. The sandwich was very good and I guess on Wednesdays you get a free piece of pie. I was really full from the half sandwich so I took home the blueberry pie which was really good. My friend ordered the chicken salad on greens with tomatos and cucumbers which was delicious and she had the sweet potato pie which also was very delicious. I also took home a scone to have with my coffee the next morning and that was excellent. The lady helping us was really very nice. I would definitely go back to this place again. read more

Saturday April 20, 2019: I've picked up cinnamon rolls from Jantz multiple times over the years. This morning, as a treat, I left Catheys Valley for the 20 minute drive to Jantz in Mariposa to surprise our houseguests with freshly baked rolls. Before leaving the house at 6:50 am I double checked their hours for the day. As you can see, both Yelp and Jantz' website stated that they were open today from 7:30am to 3:00pm. I arrived early but didn't mind since I enjoyed seeing Mariposa early in the morning, free of tourist traffic. I sat in my car, listened to music and kept an eye on the store front from my street-side parking. I kept expecting to see movement from within. The fact that I didn't see anyone didn't concern me too much as I know the bakery/production end of the business is in the back of the store and out of sight. At 7:20 I got out of my car to peak through the window to see how close they were to opening. Still dark. I looked for an hours-of-business sign in case I had misread their hours before I left the house. Imagine my surprise when I read their posted sign indicated that they were CLOSED today, Saturday, and not open as advertised. Below you will see the Jantzcafe.com and Yelp hours of operation as posted online. Next to these pics are the pic of the sign posted on the shop window. Jantz is dead to me. What a waste of time. Go to the donut shop next to Sugar Pine for freshly made donuts. They may not be quite like Jantz's cinnamon rolls, but they are reliably open and tasty. FRUSTRATED! read more

It is kind of hard to give this bakery a fair review as my family came in a few minutes to closing time. We only tried the cake pop. My daughter enjoyed it. I was looking for more selection and a good cup of coffee, which they did not have. Maybe next time it will prove better. read more

The chicken salad sandwich has pulled chicken, mayo and lots of salt, enough to kill grass. I have had far better chicken salad at home and in restuarants. They would do well to use less chicken and add some herbs, onion, garlic or seeds for some savory flavor. It is also true that they have never respected public health restrictions on Covid. I like their pies even though the crusts taste like shortening rather than the buttery taste my grandmother made. read more

I very rarely write yelp reviews but I found this bakery so top notch, that I just had to tell everyone about it!! The food snob that I am can honestly say it was the best food across all categories that I had in the area. The chicken salad sandwich was fresh, bread delicious (uncommon in the US), and not too salty or too much mayo. The cheesecake was seriously the best I have had in many years (and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area). The clam chowder was also perfect, not too salty, creamy and with enough clams. The service was delightfully slow adding to the small town, country feel that I LOVE on vacation, and I had a wonderful conversation with Marlene the cashier (who wanted to MAKE SURE I had the cheesecake slice of my dreams, offering all the possible options). The ambiance is more of a pick up and go because it's near a busy street, but people's friendliness made up for it and made me want to stay longer. Go there. Eat epically! read more

I just had the best lemon meringue pie I've ever had and my husband said his banana nut muffin was the best he'd ever had! I wish I could've tried one of everything haha! Sooo yummy! We took a slice of pecan praline pie and a sweet potato muffin to go. They were yummy as well! The muffins are moist, dense and chewy with a crispy streusel-like top. We loved them!!! The Mariposa Honey coffee was extra delicious! And my husband loved the 49er coffee as well. He's somewhat hard to impress and he enjoyed this bakery. read more

I had high expectations for Jantz Bakery. I went to the Mariposa shop 10 minutes after it opened on a Wednesday morning to pick up pastries for the family and order boxed sandwiches for lunch. The young lady behind the counter looked like was already having a bad day, apparently from the many box lunch orders that came in earlier. I inquired about the pastries in the case and she just answered matter-of-factly. There apparently wasn't anything special. I picked up a selection of scones, turnovers, and muffins to take back to the house (I offered to pick up my lunch later that morning). After I got home, I was disappointed to find the pastries were cold, hard, and stiff - they did not feel like they were "just baked". I suspect they were shipped there overnight from elsewhere. Fortunately, the pastries came back to life after spending some time in the microwave and tasted pretty good. Not fresh bakery awesomeness, but pretty good. The boxed sandwiches (and accompanying sides) later in the day were pretty good. The included cookie, however, not so much. Overall, a middle of the road, mediocre bakery. read more

The pies at this bakery were 5-star-worthy. We tried the razzleberry and cherry, both of which were intensely flavorful, without being cloyingly sweet. They also serve slivers (that are the size of a typical slice) for $2.50, so you can try several pies for very little money. I'd be really interested to try the cream-based pies, after being wowed by the fruit pies. Some of the bars were also really good, although not on the same level as the pies. I loved the chocolate-toffee bar (although it's a bit crumbly, so not great for eating in the car), but was less impressed by the lemon and smores bars. The lemon bar I found a bit too sweet, and I didn't care much for the s'mores bar at all (although I'm also not a huge marshmallow fan). The brownie was dense and fudgy, with good, but not "the best" flavor. I left the restaurant feeling very good about all decisions. Prices were reasonable, pie was fantastic, and bars were solid. I'd go back here in a heartbeat and suggest everyone else tries it as well. read more

I ordered a cake for a work farewell party, last minute. I understood from past orders that Jantz bakes at their larger store in Atwater. This is the second cake I've ordered for a gathering so I know the quality and ingredients are excellent. Lunches, fresh baked bread, breakfast, and well most all of their goodies are high on list list of favorites! But what stood out with the cakes was the willingness and creativity in the final product! The first cake I gave a lot of detail, this one I left a lot of room for the artists creativity. While both were spot on! This latest cake really far exceeded my expectations! The farewell party was a success and the cake truly was the icing!! I come here every time I go to Mariposa on Vacation. The pies here are delicious. I had lemon meringue and cherry this time and they were very good. The cookies and muffins are great too. I always get lemon bars to go. It's a good thing I don't live nearby or I would be here every day. read more

It is a little pricey but like I said the rolls were large and delicious. They also sell sandwiches too. Thankfully this bakery was steps away from our dive of a hotel so we were able to escape the dismal free breakfast there. I loved their sweet potato muffins. Stopped here for a quick breakfast with my boyfriend on our way into Yosemite. The bakery doesn't serve a breakfast menu, but has biscuits and gravy in the mornings. I kid you not, that was by far the best biscuit I've ever had. The gravy was a little lacklustre, but oh man, those biscuits! We also got a couple pieces of wheat toast, and it was fantastic! Swing by here to pick up your box lunch for your hike on Yosemite. Really nice person and seriously, the box lunch sandwich made with home made wheat bread is really delicious. The sweet potato muffin was a bit too sweet, but that seems to be endemic around here. There are gorgeous-looking things on the cases including home made pies. They have only regular coffee and it is made fresh from time to time. read more
