We recently flew business class on our long-haul flight from LAX to Narita, Japan. The comfort was exceptional. Each seat has direct access to the aisle and it fully converted into a flat bed. The amenities were excellent which included a personal charging outlet, a TV, a blanket, and slippers. We also received an amenity kit with a toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, eye mask, charging cable, lip balm, and a phone stand. FOOD: I'm not into Japanese food, so I opted for the International Western menu. Their welcome drink, which consisted of lemon, ginger, and pineapple, was good. They served appetizers first, which were so huge that I mistook them for the main course. By the time they served the main meal, we were already full. I'm not sure if it was another kind gesture or just a coincidence, but they left the entire aisle to me and my daughter, even though the flight was full. While this could have been a hassle, JAL handled the situation with remarkable care. A representative met us at the airport in Japan, holding a sign with our names. She personally guided us to the check-in counter and explained the situation clearly, despite a slight language barrier. To compensate for the inconvenience, JAL gave us a pre-paid card with the Japanese currency equivalent to $150. We could only use it in Japan, and not all stores accepted it. However, my daughter successfully used it at a small snack shop in Narita Airport. JAL also instructed us to call them once we were back in the U.S., and we were given another $150 credit. I'm not sure if the compensation was sufficient for the trouble, but JAL still ensured we were comfortable. I've also observed based on my experience that JAL provides the same high level of customer service to all passengers, regardless of whether they are in business or economy class.
