We were passing through Düsseldorf for half a day and saw they're known for their Japanese food, so we decided to check out Takumi! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. AJITAMA TONKOTSU RAMEN: I'm a tonkotsu person and almost always order this over other types of ramen. Not sure if I was just so severely deprived of Asian food, but I felt Takumi's tonkotsu ramen ranked pretty high on my list! And coming from SoCal as well as having lived down the street from both major Japanese food hubs in Los Angeles, that's saying a lot! Good amount of pork, the noodles were cooked to the perfect texture, and the broth was rich without being overly salty. I don't usually enjoy other types of ramen so I can't speak for those items from their menu. But I slurped my entire bowl of tonkotsu ramen dry! KARAAGE: Large pieces with crispy exterior and super juicy interiors! I wasn't expecting much but in the end I was super happy we ordered this. Overall, amazing tonkotsu ramen located in Düsseldorf's Little Tokyo.

Trying to reserve with the help of a form on their website didn't succeed: no reaction at all. Anyhow we decided to just go there. Then the food: with my family we enjoyed some sushi plate as a starter. This was fresh, nicely served on large plate and absolutely the star of the dinner. My recommendation: eat sushi in this restaurant. As a main course we ordered ramen and yakisoba. The ramen was okay-ish, a bit more spice and taste wouldn't harm the experience. The yakisoba with salmon was very disappointing, the sauce was so sweet, it was like a desert. Really disgusting. The yakisoba with chicken was way better, but not worth the price, it is a dish similar to what is offered at takeaway wok restaurants in railway stations. My final judgment: 3 out of 5. If you go there, sushi is the dish to take.

I waited for more than half an hour for a plate of sushis and some noodles. I wanted to leave after some time but the owner told me that my order will be ready in 2 minutes. I got it 10 minutes after and no apologies, or any word from him. I don't recommend this place unless you don't mind waiting for ages.

FOOD & DRINKS The menu is compact and has some Japanese…read moreclassics to choose from. I asked for a recommendation and picked a Miso TanTan Ramen and a Katsu Bao. The beef ribs also catched my interest but I couldn't resist to try out the Ramen and with that there was no stomach room left for the ribs. Plus my last beef rips experience (not in this restaurant) wasn't that great. The ramen really looked and tasted authentic! They hit the flavours and the ramen egg was done well. Maybe a tad too salty but it was marinated and cooked properly which I can't even say for some Japanese run ramen restaurants in Germany. The Katsu Bao reminded me of China meets Japan meets Vietnam meets Korea. The Bao (China) fluffy and slightly sweet, the Katsu (Japan) crispy, the sweet sour pickeled carrot and fresh cilantro (Vietnam) and finally the Kimchi (Korea) for a sour spicy note. The homemade ice tea was good too. SERVICE A bunch of cool and friendly guys were rockin this place during my visit. I was the first one to arrive for lunch and expected the service to be fast. No complaints. ATMOSPHERE Industrial and modern look. A dark color theme with some Japanese pictures on the wall and an open kitchen. I like it. RATING So why just four stars? First I wanted to give full five stars but I the last star to me is something personal. The restaurant needs to scream amazing to me and unfortunately it didn't. Everything was really good. The ramen was even better than some Japanese run places I have been to. The problem to me is not the food. It is the flair. The restaurant and its menu wants to sell their customers Japan. The food is there but I just don't get the Japanese vibes and this has nothing to do that none of them was Japanese. You can sell the Japanese feel without being Japanese. It starts with the decoration. While they had some elements they were kinda lost. This restaurant could be anything really. The atmosphere didn't emit Japanese vibes of an Izakaya either. I still can recommend this place and will come back to test more.

The takoyaki were also delicious, only wish they came with 6 and not 4. The chicken wings, another home run. The gyoza were a bit on the soggy side, perhaps maybe another 30 seconds in the pan would've made them perfect. Also try the various fruit teas, not too sweet and perfect to wash down the hot noodles with.

Anyone who reviews this restaurant with less than 5 stars was just having a damn bad day because…read morethis is definitely one of the finest restaurants I have eaten in in my life. From the moment I was greeted until I stepped back into the elevator the service I was given was impeccable. My server, Nils, was extremely informative and clear despite the fact that my German is nonexistent. His drink recommendations were spot on not only based on the taste profile I shared to him that I wanted to enjoy but in compliment to my food. I ordered the 5 course Omakase meal. (They offer 4, 5, and 6 course options) - Omakase means "Let the chef decide" or as I call it "Buy the ticket, take the ride" Omakase is for the brave and adventurous. I would not recommend Omakase if have special dietary needs or are a picky eater. What you are doing is allowing the chef to really flex their creative skills and in my opinion getting the best culinary experience possible. Based on my experience however you order at Yunico you are going to be stunned and delighted. As a side note, Nils informed me upon my inquiry that the restaurant will keep track of the dishes that you get in an Omakase meal and avoid duplication during subsequent visits. He suggested that I might have to visit a dozen times before encountering a duplicate dish! I believe him. I just wish I could afford to come that often haha

The YUNICO is awarded with 16 Points in Gault & Millau Germany 2015. And you can definitely experience that. It is amazing how ingredients are so beautifully blended to create an eating experience that triggers all the senses. We went for the surprise dinner by the chef with accompanying sake and wine. The only thing you have to know is that the prices are upper class as well. This restaurant targets for the kind of audience for whom money is no issue. And that is partly a shame, because more people should be able to experience such wonderful tastes. The prices are so high, that soon they probably have to reconsider, cause now it feels not in balance even if the food is the best I ever had. Another minor thing was the timing of the food, which took a bit too long. We felt too much like being 'waiting' between courses. This is the case more often with fine dining restaurants as the idea is probably that you have to give the food time to be greeted by your body and senses, but I guess I am not the person that wants to be dining for 3 hours or more. Anyway, if money is no issue and you like seriously ethereal food, go visit Yunico when you are in Bonn.
