All expats and people that work around the EU institutions are there to talk and drink. You can find people from every corner of this planet in the square. Most people are smartly dressed but some people are also more normally dressed. Some spending a lot of money, others buying beer in the supermarket and coming there to drink it together with other people. The police now closes the access to cars on one side of the square, which makes things easier. The bars sell drinks inside but also outside. Everybody seems happy and why not to embrace at least sometimes the multiculturality and diversity of Brussels?

From…read morethe summertime hustling of street performers to the Christmas time markets, this square is vibrant and full of life anytime of the year. Great people watching and thus past year (2015) it's been especially great to find an empty bench and check out the cleaning of the St Catherine's church - it's smog and centuries of dirt gradually being cleaned away to reveal the white brick underneath.

We visited Place Ste Catherine for the Christmas Markets this year and it was definitely the…read morehighlight of the Brussels Christmas Market trail (which started essentially when you left Grand Place). This section had most of the stalls plus the carousels, Ferris wheel and blow up Christmas monster for kids, oh and of course Santa's Garden (or whatever it was). The stalls... and there were plenty of stalls... weren't too bad. There wasn't a huge range of stuff to look at as much of it was similar to what you'd see in other Christmas markets or what you'd see a few stalls down, but there were certainly some different things available which I hadn't seen around before. The church at the end of the markets, Ste Catherine was magnificent and towered over the markets like a dominating force. It was nice!

I just love the idea of wandering around aimless in a foreign city which is an experience in…read moreitself. I have no idea that Place Poelaert is that big! Eight hectares and the largest square in Brussels. It has a panoramic view of the lower city and you can see the Atomium and the Koekelberg basilica in the distance. Not a must visit destination but quite refreshing to spend a little time enjoying the view!

They got a really great view of the city, one of the best spot to see the city from above. This place is not far from the city centre. If you take the bus to here, it too about 15 mins to get here. I think, if this was your first time to Brussels, I suggest just walk from central station to here, along the way there are many different cool sightseeings. There is a cool city lift next to this place, don't miss it, it is quite a fun experience. It is for free and will take you to the other side of the city in couple second. It's very convenient. There is a monument as well. For me, I love to see the city from here. It simply became one a my favorite spot in Brussels.
