We visited the Botanical Garden at UNAM a few weeks ago when we were visiting the UNAM campus. The…read moregarden was founded in 1959, and it's intended to represent Mexico's plant diversity. To that end, it has several different areas. Since the garden is free to visit, we just stopped by for a quick visit. Since we didn't have much time, we just wandered around for a bit. We saw an amazing variety of agave and cacti. I definitely would have wandered for longer if I could have. The parking was a bit confusing. There was a parking lot, but the gate didn't let open to let us in. We parked on the street near the gate, but we weren't sure it was legal parking. Worth a visit if you're in the area, but I wouldn't suggest you necessarily go out of your way if your visit to CDMX is a short one!

The website claims they close at 3 on Saturdays but that seems to just be the little shop inside and the greenhouses. There are lots of little paths to wander and an enormous amount of cacti. Some of the paths aren't well marked and can be steep/rocky.

This was such an amazing find. We were finishing up our Eat Mexico street food tour, and we had…read morebeen visiting with our tour guide, Sofia. When she heard my husband had been a professional organic farmer and gardener, and our tour was ending just across the street, she sent us here. We were amazed to find this amazing urban collective in the middle of Roma. The giant tower you see in my pictures if made of water bottles. There are numerous yurts, pavilions, fire pits, rain collection systems, gardens, and so so much more throughout the large area. When we were there, in the late afternoon, a group of people were building a large pavilion, a few college age folks presided over a small group of school age children, a preschool age group was just finishing up, and people were beginning to arrive for a composting class. It was amazing to learn a little bit about the story of the place, the area purchased by local residents after it had been turned into a dump after the earthquake in 1985. They restored the area and made it what they wanted, an amazing area in the very heart of CDMX. It was also so cool that we could just wander in, walk around, and no one minded or cared. Everyone seemed to be happy, pleasant, and working toward some cool project. It seemed very utopian and I'm sure that's what they are going for. Thanks for letting us come in and check it out.

This place is near my house, so I used as my backyard to take out my dogs, jogging, lecture place,…read morerelaxation place. Is quite a nice place, up in the hill that changes a little bit the weather, in the week days is almost always empty (there is security tho), you can go to take a lone walk so you can be with yourself and your thoughts. Also you can take your chick for a romantic walk late in the evening. I love to take my dogs (A couple of awesome huskies) for a walk ok week days because I can to let them leashless to play because there will be no (not always) other dogs. On weekends is also nice, but a little bit more crowd tho.

My 2 most favorite things about this park is seeing so many dogs. As a dog lover (and also of one who recently just lost her little girl dog 2 months ago), it was so nice to see so many dogs because they always bring me so much joy when I see them. Most of the locals walking their dogs walked their pups off leash. And for the most part, their dogs were all very well behaved and always stayed close to their owners. But there were also some people who also walked their dogs on leash. The other thing that I loved the most about this park was that there are so many trees that really keep this park very nice and cool because of all the shade throughout this large park. It really does encourage people to come out and walk and do some exercise, which I really love. At this park were a few different playground areas and also a very large pond with ducks. There are also vendors selling items, food, etc throughout the park. There is also a restroom if you need to use it, which cost $5 MXN or $0.29 USD (it is common to pay to use the toilet in Mexico but be aware that it is common for there to be no toilet paper, sometimes no toilet seats.... yes the actual seat, and hand soap. But usually restaurants, grocery stores and museums do not charge to use their toilet). This park is surrounded with a lot of restaurants, coffee shops and apartment buildings. For the most part, it is a pretty kid friendly and dog friendly park that felt safe to visit the days and nights we came by to walk. If I lived here, I would definitely be a regular.
