Cute shop that just opened up on Balboa! I came for their grand opening and they seemed to be doing really well. I kept it simple with an iced maple latte, and it was super good. It's a small space so be patient; it's worth the wait! Nice patio area in the back if you want to hang out for a bit. Worth a try if you're in the area!

SO GOOD! I ordered the iced vanilla late with a sweet Mable cold foam and let me tell you... it was the best thing I've ever tasted. Coffee usually gives me anxiety and keeps me up all night. I had this drink around 3pm and still went to bed at a normal time with no anxiety or jitters. The place itself was super cute and the girl was very fast and helpful! I will be back when I visit

Small little coffee shop on balboa island. The gingerbread latte was really good I hope they have it all year long! It is all street parking, but that's Balboa. Coffees came out in a timely matter. I will be back when I am in the area

Genuinely a beautiful place. Shares a plaza with a thrift shop and area for kids with benches. Super cute. Latte and hot cocoas were on point with plenty of milk alternatives. This is a new location and the staff was fantastic, explaining the origin of the shop. Will be back!

It's influenced by the San Cabos area of Mexico. So, it's what we're familiar with, only with a lovely twist. I ordered the chicken enchiladas Suiza, and my son got the taco trio. It was some of the BEST Mexican food we'd ever had. Another plus is that it's not on Balboa Island's main drag. So, parking and traffic aren't as much of a hassle. It's also very close to the water. The atmosphere is pleasant, and so is the staff. We couldn't have had a nicer experience. I highly recommend it.

Nice looking spot with plenty of outdoor seating. All the staff we interacted with were very friendly. So why just 3 stars? The food was just eh. If I had more hours in California I would have made up for the lackluster food by making a trip to HB's Tacos Los Cholos. I had the recommended Enchiladas Suizas. When my plate came out I knew immediately it would be just ok. The enchiladas didn't even look saucy. The refried beans looked (and tasted) like canned beans. The rice was very boring. The tinga chicken, somehow, was dry. My wife had the tostada salad. It was like $26 because of the $10 add on of steak. $26 for the most gringo thing on the menu. Best part of it was the steak, the rest will be repressed from my memory. A friend had the taco trio. $19 for 3 tacos and no sides. That's pretty steep. He didn't even finish the 3 tacos. He had the short rib, al pastor and carnitas. None of them looked very good. I had a pinch of his short rib meat. It tasted like grandma's Sunday pot roast. And just like the tinga chicken it was also dry. My wife's strawberry marg was quite good. The beer menu was very basic. Gotta step it up. When the free chips and salsa, and add on steak are the highlights of the dinner you know that the place needs help.

Service - quick service, great barista, and got my drink fairly quickly! They do have a hot foods menu so they do mention that your food takes some time to come out because it's freshly made. They fell a little flat. The flavors were subtle to the point of being hard to notice, and both drinks felt a bit watered down. Not bad, just... underwhelming for what I was expecting. That said, the vibe here is genuinely adorable, great for photos, and the staff was warm and welcoming the whole time. If you're coming for the aesthetic, you won't be disappointed. As for the coffee itself, it's fine, nothing I'd go out of my way for. Might be worth trying again if I happen to be in the area.

Steak was cooked perfectly, frittes could use some work. My friend had the poke and cleaned his plate (bowl?). Tried the matcha berries & cream which was nice. (Does anyone work anymore!? ) The longest I waited was an hour but that was 3 weeks after opening. And I can tell you, as long as you have the time it will be worth it. The overall aesthetic is coastal cowboy meets rustic modern. There is a ton of seating with a great outdoor patio. Parking in the back is pretty slim, so your best bet is street parking. You can either get lucky or park around the block, depending on the day / time. My absolute favorite coffee is the Hawaiian Cowboy. It flavor profile is a nutty tasting honey that's refreshing yet not overly sweet. You can actually taste the espresso without it being too powerful. This coffee is worth the wait. Their other drinks are also good, but this one takes the cake. They have a pretty expansive food menu as well, so it's much more than "just a coffee shop". And you can't forget about their baked goods. O M G. It's from a local bakery (sift bakery) who makes the best non basic treats around. Salty horse found its place at the top of my list in a very saturated coffee market.
