Gateway to the Heart is a large unpolished stainless steel installation created by Bernard Hagedorn in 1988. There are two halves of a circle that have an opening between them and are topped with a small house/building on top. I am not sure what all the pieces mean, but that's okay. The installation is part of the Bill Schroeder Memorial which sits near the entrance to the Schroeder Soccer Complex. Mr Schroeder was from Jasper and was one of the individuals during the 1980's to undergo heart surgery using the artificial heart Jarvik-7. Mr Schroeder survived 620 days with the artificial device, which set the record for the longest time any individual was able to do so. Review #3192

The six scenes are: the hookah smoking caterpillar; Alice holding her cat, with the Cheshire Cat in the background; the Queen of Hearts' frog servants; the Queen of Hearts; the Mad Hatter; and the White Rabbit. Nulu is stocked full of awesome and beautiful public art works. Thai Alice and wonderland rendering has added to that. So detailed, specific and well done. Everytime I walk by it I notice a detail that I haven't before. Overall a beautiful and wonderfully done piece of public art. I can see it becoming a favorite of many inside the city.

This awesome and unique mural is actually located in the cities self.e alley and is the 2nd of 3 murals in the alley. My girls loved this mural. And I'm must admit it was my favorite piece of public art that we discovered on our short trip to Evansville. My family and I always checks out the public art scene when we visit places and this mural actually ranks up there with one of our favorite ones we have come across. Overall very pretty and fun mural. Makes for a perfect photo or selfie opp and also makes for some cool and fun memories as well.

Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The mural consist of a pair of boxing gloves with its angel halo (I assume created shortly after ali passing) and the left wing being a butterfly wing and the right wing being a bee wing. Very cool and unique. While the mural never mentions Ali name or the phrase or is obvious what the message is by the creative use of symbolism. Overall a great piece and while it's not very large and kinda hard to spot on the side of a building it may be one of my new favorite pieces because of the creativity.

On my most recent trip to Bloomington, I headed out to the west side to find a large wind driven…read moresculpture behind the Bed Bath and Beyond store. Partially hidden by large evergreen trees on the west side of the green space is a sculpture that is nearly 70 feet in height made of coated steel that on sunny days, reflects deep colors off its surface. The piece is officially listed as "Untitled 2001" by artist Stephen Powell (2001) but is also referred to as "Fngers". The piece has two end pillars that support a crossbar. The cross bar has five tapered tubes that use their thicker and heavier bases to counter balance the long and narrow portion that reach skyward. As wind catches the long surfaces, the tubes pivot towards horizontal depending upon the wind velocity. On my visit, the wind was light, so the tubes were generally pointing skyward with litle movement. However, I have seen photos of the tubes frozen in winter parallel to the ground! At the time of my visit, there were no benches in the vicinity for visitors to sit and watch the movement though I can imagine that it may be peacefl to watch the tubes sway. I believe I've read the tubes make noise on windy days as well, but were silent on my trip. If you are in the area and the wind is cooperating, take a moment to swing by to check it out. There is plenty of parking to pull up and view the piece in motion. Review #1370

Self.e Alley is a decorative alley carved out in the popular brick paved Main Street area of…read moredowntown Evansville Indiana. This alley as of February 2022 currently has 3 murals. As you walk into the alley you will see the three murals side by side and a staircase. The first mural you will see is a "welcome to Evansville" mural. The second mural is the awesome and vibrant "neon lights" mural and lastly you have the cleverly named "Ready or Dot!" Mural. All there murals are fantastic and well done. They make for a perfect photo op or as the alley insists a perfect selfie. My personally favorite of the 3 current murals is the neon lights mural. It was my favorite mural I came across on my short trip to the city of Evansville. Overall very cool, fun and clever thing to have in the city. Me and the family always enjoy discovering public art when visiting towns. And self.e alley provided easy access to three really good murals.
