There's often a distinct yet un-placeable sense that you're entering into an underground world when you enter one of these stores. Which is why its so pleasant not to feel any of these reservations when popping in for a nose around Café Eketconica. The staff are friendly and helpful without doing that oh so irksome hard sales pitch. The prices are (for services and sales) are also pretty reasonable, but I can't comment on whether the cash they offer for electronics is reasonable or not, as I don't tend to sell my defunct gizmos, preferring to hang onto them for nostalgias sake. My ipod nano already looks like a relic from a bygone era, and I doubt its even 10 years old! Anywho, rose tinted spectacles aside, this is still a rocking shop that should feature highly on your list of stores to sell to or buy from. Definitely better than most.

Always in it to save a penny or two ,ie petrol. Pulled over whent in, and was pleasantly surprised. The place looked clean and tidy, well stocked and organised. Do have to say though.wasn't met with a nice smile or welcome. The guy looked proper miserable.Like he had the hole world on his shoulders. Or it could have been the site of my ugly mug. Don't know, but a smile or fake grin would have been nice. Anyway I took out my old basher of a phone that wasn't working. Every time you put it on, the screen goes all fuzzy. So I asked if he could fix it. I was told yes know problem. How much I said, and was plesently surpprised with the answer.£25. I think and thought that was pretty good. I know if I whent to town, they would have charged me more..so he took my name and number, and said, I'll call you when it's ready. Ready being a couple of days. Even more impressed. I then asked about a screen protector for my phone. He said I don't need one, it has one on it already. I never new. So he could have done me, and been a couple quid up. He never. So that also tells me that halo halo are also honest. Rare in today's day and age. Looking around the place,it looked good. Monitors and keyboards well spaced out, and nice leather high chairs. Coming outside to take a phew snaps of the outside, it looked a bit shabby, but know reflection on the inside. A overall good experience. Will defo be going back here again if I have anymore phone problems. I highly recommend.

Yet another Brighton convenience store/corner shop, North Street Food and Wine is a little more…read moreconvenient than most corner shops for me, being directly on my way back home from the North Laine area. I often seem to end up here on my way home, if money's tight, picking up some cheap grub, and for that this store is absolutely fine. Just don't expect anything too fancy: it is just a convenience store. Run by the same people that run All Sorts across the road, North Street Food and Wine is definitely the better of the two shops. They have more on offer, not just booze and magazines, and it can legitimately replace a cheap food shop if you're just looking for microwave pizzas and crisps. I have to admit the occasional horrible food binge: every now and again, food like that is all I really want, making this the right place to go. As stated above, this is a convenience store: don't expect the world from the stock. If you're looking for anything beyond cheap, tasteless snacky bits and pieces, you should be shopping elsewhere. Also, offering lots of cheap food but smacking on a huge card handling fee is not my idea of a fair deal. Especially when it seems to change depending on who's serving... In the end, North Street Food and Wine is convenient and has a larger stock than most convenience stores, so it is a lot better than many of the convenience stores that dot Brighton's shopping landscape. Just don't expect healthy food, or anything out of the ordinary.

This convenience store looks very similar to the one opposite the road(All Sorts? Or All In Here? I…read moreforget...), so I guess they're owned by the same people. If so, then this store is the better of the two (although lacking an internet cafe, but then why would you need another one 30 seconds away?!). Here you'll find your usual array of cheap snack foods, as well as a few basic grocery/household items. They also sell individual fresh fruit pieces, displayed outside, which can be quite handy if you're on the go.

I've always hated internet cafes, and Starnet Internet exemplifies everything I dislike about them:…read morethe service is diabolical, the look dingy and dirty, and everything is overpriced. Add to that that this particular internet cafe has infected 3 different friends' computers with viruses, and you can see why my recommendation here is: stay well away. Internet cafes seem to have popped up all over Brighton, and they are all really one of a kind: dirty, dingy and ludicrously expensive. I cannot understand a good reason to go: when an hour on one of these computers costs you over £1, surely getting an internet connection in your house will be much, much cheaper over time. What on earth is the point? In Starnet's case, the above price is compounded with a really poor service. The computers are from the early 90s, about as slow as it gets and riddled with viruses, worms and that sort of thing. I wasn't exaggerating above: 3 different friends, on separate occasions and different computers, got 3 different viruses. If you do desperately need to go to an internet cafe, why go to the one where you'll definitely pick something up that you don't want to transfer onto your own device. Starnet also offers various mobile phone gizmos (who buys those?) and extortionately priced scanning, printing and faxing: service I have never tried, and certainly never plan to. Scanning simply does not cost £1 per page, that's just ludicrous. I wish there was a lower star rating than 1 to give, as Starnet exemplifies everything you wouldn't want in a business. This is the worst internet cafe I've ever been in, and possibly the worst business in Brighton. Cross the road to avoid.

This place is a handy little resource, situated half way up St James' Street. It's pretty dingy and…read morethe computers look very '90s, but it's very useful if you've got work to do and your pc crashes on you, or if you've just moved to the area and haven't got internet up and running yet. Prices are pretty standard - from 50p for half an hour. They provide other resources too like phone unlocking, repairs, printing, scanning, sim cards, faxing... It can look a bit dodgy though, with loads of different phone and pc accesories higglety-pigglety under the counter, for pretty cheap prices. One thing to beware of too - scanning is a rip off at £1 per page! And if you don't have a memory card they'll make you pay an additional 50p to email elswhere, plus more for printing if you need that - it's a bit of a bummer as I've found nowhere else nearby that does scanning.

Sorry Joseph, I have to completely and categorically disagree with you. Global links may have a lot…read moreof space but that's it. Compared to the Phone Centre down the road it offers precious little in the way of good service or reliable equipment. Because there are so many computers, the connection is often unacceptably slow. They've also deactivated all rick-click capabilities so you can't save documents or navigate effectively. Furthermore, with the exception of maybe two individuals, the staff are mostly unhelpful and uninterested. As I live over the road you'd think this would be my place of choice and actually it was until a series of frustrating problems led me to search for more reliable equipment. For example, if you've produced a word file on a Mac you can't open it at Global Links without everything cocking up royally. Instead, totter down to the Phone Centre where you can actually view and print your Mac-created word file. If all you want to do is check Facebook you probably won't have a problem with Global Links but if you have an issue of any kind: woe betide you! (Actually, if you're a sexy girl forget everything I've just said: they'll be hanging at your every word, jumping through hoops and generally letch over you at all times.) Not a fan!!!

There is not a whole lot more to say, other than to check it out for yourself. It is close to the centre of Brighton, but manages to be spacious and clean - which cannot be said for some of its rivals.
