Beware your yellow receipt will be a different price than the price quoted. We walk in and ask how much to replace a chain and tighten a mechanism. We get quoted 30 bucks. Fine. Now we have to wait an hour? With no one else in the store and no bikes in the shop we almost walked out. But we stick with it. We come back and we're going to pay... "$55". Why? Oh this and that and this. The only allies small businesses have are the customers and this place does not care for them. Or perhaps only some types. A priveleged man walks in and explains something popped on his brake and asks how much..."box of donuts next time don't worry", but minorities walk out paying 50% more than quoted? No explanation, no phone call and a shrug at the end. They're not even trying. A sign of the times. read more

I had purchased 2 old Raleigh bicycles for me and my wife, we love the old school stuff. Took them over to Jays and take to Andrew about replacing tiles, tune up and some modifications. Couple of days later they were done. Wow the bikes looked like new!! Great team, Great atmosphere and Great knowledge. They really spend some time with me letting me know what to look for and what would be the best bike for me and my wife . Beware! I took my Fuji 4.0 here for a tune up--$75---and a five day wait. When i went to pick it up i checked the back tire, turned it half a rotation and thwap! It hit the brake and stopped! I should have asked for my money back or a discount . Plus the back tire still had some wobble despite the tuneup. but sent it right back in for a quick fix. I would definitely not recommend given this experience. Place seems generally a bit pricey and more aimed at toney westfielders. I would recommend another shop---if you can find one! read more

I recently purchased a Specialized Fatboy 24" (picked it up yesterday) for my son. I have been riding on/off for about 20 years now and got my son interested so for his 10th birthday I wanted to get him a cool and easy bike to ride with me. I have historically always bought family bikes from High Gear in Stirling since it is 10 minutes from my house but as luck would have it, they did not have the bike I was looking for. My son's birthday was on Saturday so on Thursday I was scrambling for a bike for him. I literally called ever shop within 30 miles of Warren NJ and even 1 in Staten Island to get him bike but nobody had one in stock. In those calls I spoke to someone at your shop (he was actually a tech) and when it was time to order one later that day(my only option), Jay's stood out. The tech was super friendly(other techs usually just say they don't know and pass the call on with a crappy attitude), as a matter of fact this tech was more customer service oriented than many shop sales departments. So Jay's was my obvious choice even at a 30 minute drive away! I rushed over with my son to see if there was a similar sized bike to try out and was greeted by more friendly staff (and the Tech on the call). The staff member helped us look around and took the deposit and we were on our way. I was told by Wednesday the bike should be ready. My son, who is now super excited, had me clean up his old bike so he could ride with me in anticipation of the new bike and kept asking when it would be in. To my surprise, I get a call that it arrived Monday morning and by noon it was already put together so I rushed out of work and again, your staff is AWESOME! As I write this I am on the staff page and I don't remember who I spoke with when so sorry for no names but I do think I spoke to everyone at some point or another and ALL were great! I never write, review, etc... but I was blown away by the customer service. I own a business that is 100% customer service as well as I use many vendors and notice that courtesy, frienldliness, and honesty are lost these days. Bought a new bike (on line) & had major problems with the shifting. I knew that if I brought it to my local bike shop they would say "you can pick it up a week from Tuesday". I decided to give Jay's a try. Andrew met me at the door, & asked me what the problem was. I described the issue, & he said leave it & he would take a look at it. I drove home & sat down to eat breakfast when the phone rang. It was Andrew saying come get your bike, it is all ready! Fixed right,for a first time customer who didn't buy the bike there! It's family owned and operated. The "mom n pop" stores need my hard earned dollar more than the big faceless retailers. I may pay a bit more, but it's better than those highway stores that tend to know very little bout the products they sell, and the bikes they sell are INFERIOR to the bikes sold at Jay's! Buying my first road bike from Jay's was a great experience. On my first trip to the store, I spent 2 hours at the store! They took the time to explain the bikes, measure me and get me on a trainer to explain the gears before a test ride. It's so nice to see customer service isn't dead. When I came back to the store to pick up my purchase, I spent another 2 hours making sure my bike fit correctly and teaching me about my clip-in's. You can tell these guys know their stuff and enjoy doing what they do. read more

Not impressed. This place is always swamped and staff made me stand there forever before assisting me. Once I got someone to help me, he did not give me his full attention but would excuse himself to attend to others customers. I was buying an expensive bike and should have left then. When the ordered bike arrived I got the bums rush in instruction and was basically on my own. The seat was angled incorrectly and I had fix it myself. During my first tune up at a different place I learned that bike was improperly calibrated. Found a much better bike shop and will not return. This place is all hype and marketing. read more

I can't rave enough about the service that I received from the staff at Jay's Cycles in Westfield. I spent a couple of days going back and forth scouting out different bikes from the very wide selection. I compared bikes and prices on the Internet as well and decided that the wisest decision was to buy a new bike instead of a used bike from the Internet. The peace of mind of the safety of the bike is paramount and the included years' worth of maintenance easily outweighed any potential savings that may have been reached by buying a used bike from a stranger. The salespeople, Stephan and Andrew, were both great and the level of service was tremendous and I left there almost with the feeling that I had made a new friend. I go to Jay's Cycle Center for locks, bike/helmet lights, and for a cycling hat. The service here is excellent and the guys here are EXTREMELY knowledgable and helpful. I went to go and purchase the Ion Bontrager 700 Lumen Headlight which is a very very bright headlight. Although that light is not perfectly bright, it is still a great light that lets me see whenever I ride my bike in the dark and is a lot brighter than the light that I use to be seen. The sales people really help you out with getting the right light for wherever you are biking at night. The store's website also has great information tool about group riding etiquette and biking etiquette when you are not in a group. I totally trust these guys that work at Jay's Cycle Center with how They can help you and the information on their website. They also have AWESOME bike mechanics that can really fix the bike tires, brakes, chains, and gears of the bike. They are really good with tune-ups that I get for my mountain bike every year. I highly recommend d this place to people that love cycling and want quality care for their bikes and bike safety. read more

My family and I have been buying bikes, service, and parts at this shop for over a decade now. I've always experienced excellent service at this shop. However, today was a very special shopping experience. I bought a really nice cateye headlight for my bike about a year ago. 6 months later or so, the button ripped and fell off. I mentioned it before to the staff and the cateye rep was notified via email. I kind of forgotten about it. And, was making due with what I had. So, I mentioned it today to Julie. And, she said she would contact them again and see what she could do. So, I was about to leave and one of the other employees said Julie had something for me. I walked over, and she handed me a brand new cateye light. It was almost like something out of a movie. I told her it was the coolest early Christmas present I ever got. Overall the guys there seem nice but you can be left for long periods of time while they gab amongst themselves. OK, it is a bike shop but I am still at the counter waiting for help. Second is that I had a bike fitting there. I believe it was $150 and they did virtually nothing and no real usable recommendations either. I even found that some of their measurements we're taken one way one time and another the next. I have been to a shop in Summit that took the time, fit it well, recommended some changes to help it fit me better and, surprise, I don't slide forward on the seat anymore. I will add another thing. I had them pack a bike for shipping once. It was done so badly that I had to unpack it and redo the entire thing. The way they had it, it would have been a scratched up mess by the time it got to it's destination. I paid for their packing too. read more

sorry but i had to write this to warn others. I recently went in to have routine maintenance, picked up the bike and never thought to look. when i got home, chain looked unusually dirty and DRY, no oil on it! Took bike all the way back and they were apologetic and they were forced to actually look at the bike, which they obviously didn't do the first time, and noticed one of the cables was stripped and replaced it at no charge, the chain is now oiled but I have my doubts how well, because all of this was done in 15 min!!! And the tech who worked on my bike, obviously embarrassed and angry, was tossing my bike around from one stand to another, taking it out on MY bike. Would NEVER trust them again or go back! As an aside, when i picked up my bike the first time, one of the salespeople (who also did repairs, not sure if he did my bike), had plenty of time to spend with me trying to sell me another bike, but when it comes to repairs, I would NEVER recommend them. And furthermore, because of that, would never buy a bike from them!! read more
