Not a whole lot of cover on the platform, so if it's wet or windy or cold, I'd suggest waiting in the garage until the train gets ready to leave.

It's convenient, especially if you're heading to Uptown or the hospitals along Elizabeth Avenue. The wait times between cars are usually reasonable but there's a small catch: there aren't any digital signs or audible announcements at the stops to tell you when the next streetcar is coming. I've found that Google Maps is helpful since it tracks the vehicles in real time and helps you estimate when to be at the platform. The drivers are friendly and the colors are probably the most adventurous and memorable of any of the trams I've seen in North America and there are quite a few. I didn't even know that Charlotte had one until I saw it chugging along one day while I was getting food. I made it a point to ride on the thing, and I have finally made that dream a reality. It's not San Francisco, but then Charlotte doesn't have all those hills (or pills) so just the existence of the tram is a huge reason for happiness.

Spartanburg is a fairly poor city to begin with, so the transportation system is going to kind of suck (it won't serve areas like Boiling Springs or Cedar Springs, for instance). I'm pretty grateful of not going on buses in larger cities like NYC or in New Jersey, though, as they tend to be dirty, smelly, expensive and trashy. I greatly recommend the day passes. Definitely beneficial for college students or disabled people. A monthly pass will run you $18.75, so it is definitely not the worst bus system in the world. Most of the drivers who run the buses are friendly. Sylvia, who drives Spartanburg Tech, is very friendly and whenever she's late, she always asks passengers what next bus they need to get on. WestGate's bus, however, can be really packed at times, to a point where I can barely find a seat. :P And it runs very late at times... Until I actually have me a car (hopefully within the next two years), I'll be using SPARTA or Dial-a-Ride when everyone else is working.

Overhead announcements tell you about the next train going north, but the next station is the last one, so don't even bother. Southbound doesn't get that same warning, only when the train is immediately inbound.

The platforms for this station are fully handicapped accessible. There are some benches with a small amount of cover available. The platforms are on opposite sides of the tracks, so the doors of the train will open on the right side. There is no parking here other than some street parking, which for the moment isn't metered or marked very well. Parkwood is between 9th Street (towards uptown) and 25th Street (towards University). Extending the Blue Line all the way to UNCC might have seemed excessive, but the success of the first segment really warrants the growing city's demand for public transportation. This station has some new neighbors! Most notably Optimist Hall. The way the track curves (you do go past it) but its a smart 1-2 minute walk. With the ongoing construction, it's probably not the most glamorous walk to get there, but the new apartments and other improvements will surely make the area a bustling hub of activity. Just like the other Lynx stations, the themes were designed by local artists. Plenty of bike rack locations (to encourage multi-modal forms of getting around). With everyone moving to Charlotte, it's actually really refreshing to not have to get in a car to get somewhere.
