I was desperately looking for a last minute alteration for a bridesmaid dress before getting on a plane the next night for a wedding. The first seamstress completely missed different areas on the dress. I had a friend pick it up for me and I didn't realize until the night before my trip... YIKES I was in the midst of leaving a very tearful voicemail at Simply Barbara after hours (around 9pm) hoping for a call back the next day when instead, someone picked up the phone. I explained the situation through tears and Barbara helped calm me on the phone and told me she was still in the shop working on her daughter's wedding gown, but if I could come now she would see what she could do. I arrived sometime around 9:30pm. Barbara was so patient and comforting and did the alterations that night while I sat on the floor watching her and sharing stories about our lives. When it came time to pay, I was ready to pay any amount because that's what she deserved. Instead, she charged me even less than the first seamstress. I will never forget her kindness. However, I would not recommend coming here for wedding-related alterations, or for any situation where you need the garment by a specific date. I brought my bridesmaid dress to Barbara and found the process to be more cumbersome than necessary, especially in comparison to previous experiences having bridesmaid dresses altered. While friendly, Barbara is not very organized, and in my experience runs 30 minutes behind schedule or takes personal calls during your appointment time. I came in for a mid-way appointment--at Barbara's request--to check the progress of the dress. When I arrived, Barbara seemed surprised to see me, even though she checked her books and confirmed that I did have an appointment. What was worse, the dress had not been touched at all--it was exactly the same as it was when I dropped it off 3 weeks prior. This left me feeling less than confident that my dress would be ready in time. She also requires lots of follow-up from the client, as she doesn't seem to remember conversations or dates that were agreed upon (we had the same conversation 3 times in one day, twice by phone and once in person, regarding the pickup date and time of my dress). I figured two months was plenty of time to hem the dress and shorten the straps (and Barbara confirmed this in my initial appointment) but it ended up feeling like things were down to the wire for no reason other than the lack of preparation and organization from Barbara. The process was unnecessarily stressful, and I will be looking elsewhere for alterations in the future.

I come around 3pm (closes at 6pm) and the dress was NOT ready and hadn't even been worked on yet. In fact, I saw it hanging like a rag in the back. It was cringeworthy to see my dress hanging so carelessly like it was nothing but a rag. The owner claimed she called me and told me to come by later. She said she left me a message. This is a blatant LIE!!! She did not call me and she did not leave me a message! She outright lied to me to my face. So I had to leave and come back around closing time to pick up the dress. I tried on the dress and it was shocking what she did to the dress. She clearly rushed to work on the dress and the sloppy craftsmanship was apparent. It is a 2 layer dress that needed a simple hem. She hemmed the dress UNEVEN all around (left side longer and dragging on the ground, right side clearly shorter). To make it worst - on the right side, the outer layer of the dress was hemmed so much shorter than the inside layer. It looked tacky and ruined! I pointed it out and she said she would fix it in about 10 mins. [I will post a photo of the dress to show all]. Overall concerns - -expensive price ($65 to hem a dress) for sloppy work. -business practice includes lying to a customer about contacting them when it did not happen (why lie??) -no apologies for inconveniencing a customer to leave and then come back, and then having to wait around while she fix her mistake. I cannot in good faith recommend this place to anyone. I regret so much coming here.

I suspect the number listed is also her personal phone number. She was very accommodating and very flexible, which was very helpful with my schedule. I came back about a hand full of times for my satin wedding dress, as I had to take in the bust, waist, and hem the dress. I also had her restructure my neck line (strapless) to adjust to my removable sleeves as they were quite long. I initially also had the designer restructure my neck line as I didn't like the pointy edges of my strapless dress and subsequently had the designer round out my line. Christine took it in some more and continued to round them to attach my sleeves so they wouldn't drape down so low on my arms. Although the process was a bit nerve wrecking, she did a wonderful job. She also showed me various bustles and was very knowledgeable. Despite choosing one, she gave me two options when I picked up my final dress, which was very nice. She is very reasonable priced, given that she has low overhead working in a small cramped space of her home. I was quoted elsewhere for about 5x the price. So I was very pleased to say the least. I have since recommended her to my sister.

I politely requested a refund because I clearly had to go somewhere else and pay for the same service again, and your employee flatly refused. After a decade of bringing my clothes here, I feel that flat refusal was poor customer service. Your employee could clearly see that the two pants were different lengths and therefore should've acknowledged their mistake.

I took the dress there the next week to have it shortened just enough that I could wear it and wouldn't be stepping on it. Jan greeted me right when I walked through the door and I showed her the dress and told her I wanted to have it hemmed a little. She took the dress from me and let me know what day it would be ready. When I went back to pick it up it was ready as promised. I tried the dress on soon after I picked it up and it was the perfect length so she did an excellent job. The price of the service was reasonable and the service here is friendly. I did not have to wait for long to go back and pick up my dress so I really appreciated the quick service. I will definitely be back the next time I need a tailor.

Sometimes she convinces me not to do what I originally planned and every time she's right! She understands construction very well. She is also very friendly and cares about her customers. If you've ever gotten fitted for a bridesmaids dress, you know it can be kind of an adventure. The…read morebride may or may not have seen wedding photos in The Knot in which all the girls look fantastic in clingy yellow silk. (It's *her* day. It's *her* day.) The sizes don't match up with mall sizes. You can end up feeling (A) like a heifer and (B) like the bridal shop is trying to make money on future alterations. You're not a heifer, but the bridal shop, with its in-house alterations services, certainly stands to benefit by being generous with their measurements. (And to be fair, I'm sure it's common for people to be on Day One of South Beach and feeling good when they get measured and be up 10 lbs. when the dress comes in and the shop may be hedging its bets, but...) That's where an independent, competent tailor comes in. Based on a positive recommendation from a co-bridesmaid, I went to Astgik's with another friend in the same wedding. I lucked out; my dress required only a strap shortening ($25). My friend's dress was a different story (like, she and I could have hung out in her dress together). Yes, the alterations cost almost as much as the dress, but as-ordered, my friend was wearing a navy satin garbage bag. Once Astgik was done, it was a dress. It took a few weeks (even for mine), but they were done when promised. I don't know if I'd gone in by myself if the strap-shortening would have been done faster, but this was just before Christmas/New Year's and I'm sure my friend's dress took a lot of work. Astgik is friendly and funny and the price seems reasonable for the quality of work. I will go back for future bridesmaids dresses and dress pant-shortening, dress/skirt altering, etc.
