We always manage to get there early in the morning on the southbound crossing and take the first crossing. It is really a relaxing way to travel and provides a good recuperation break. We have breakfast on board, the cantine is totally unpretentious, the coffee and hot chocolates are very good, and they always have fresh tasty croissants and pain au chocolat. During the crossing, you can admire the coastline and you get a good view of the estuary. The company has two ferries, the crossing takes about half an hour for roughly twenty euros, a good deal when you consider the combined costs of petrol and motorway tolls. On the northbound way, we have always had to queue, and have even on one occasion decided to drive all the way back upriver to Bordeau because of the insanely long queues.
