John Knox has a great reputation in the Lee's Summit community for a reason. All social workers, directors of nurses, nursing staff, housekeeping, maintenance and cafeteria workers go above and beyond in the good care they provide. And it's all because they care. I've not been shy about expressing my brother's needs and my concerns. I always receive kindness and appropriate action from everyone. My family is very blessed that JKV is caring for my brother. Sincerely, Debbie Brummel

DON'T BUY IN... Save your money and keep your future options open…read more Independent Living at John Knox Village is very satisfying for most residents. On the surface, the atmosphere and grounds are very inviting and conveniently located near shopping areas. As time moves on, however, and assisted living and/or nursing care become necessary, the risk is high that the policies and conditions will disappoint. For example, transportation and activities at the Assisted Living facility, once plentiful, have diminished over the years. The Skilled Nursing Unit at the Care Center, especially Long Term Care, is delinquent with missing medication dosages, very long wait times for call buttons, and high staff turnover, resulting in confusion of dosages and patients. Hearing aids? Staff is commonly not aware of how to insert them or the need to change batteries. Weekends are especially devoid of clinical help. Administration operates on the bottom dollar. They squander resources needed for reforms and additional help so they can build and market to attract new residents. Instead of buying in and paying for future care in the Care Center, parents should carefully invest that money so that they can move to another facility should they become unhappy. Buying in is like buying futures in the market; it is gambling that the future care will meet the needs. The sales pitch is seductive, promising great things that simply do not meet reality. There are PROS: amazing volunteers, without whom JKV would be truly substandard, and the residents, who are very sweet and friendly.

When I finally did get to the ER portion, after basically forcing it, I was treated rudely and rough by the Nurse. The Dr. did do some tests and such but when my blood Ox obviously went to 80% the wrong assessment was, no worries, you're ok. No I wasn't, my airway was so blocked I could not get a full breath to feel safe. No help. Horrible assessments and horrible nurse. The intake was more concerned with her conversations with co-workers. The triage clearly wanted to get to her clock out time and didn't push me through for help.

I rarely leave reviews like this, but my experience at Saint Luke's East Emergency Department was…read moreextremely disappointing. I arrived at 12:10 a.m. and was not taken to a room until 3:30 a.m. I understand ERs triage by acuity, so the wait alone is not my primary complaint. My concern is what happened once I was roomed. The treatment room was visibly dirty--full trash and dirty-linen receptacles, debris/hair on the floor, and a dirty pillow underneath the bed. I reported it to the nurse and was told it would be addressed. I also took photos documenting the conditions. Dr. Cox was the bright spot of the experience. He was caring, compassionate, and took my concerns seriously. Unfortunately, after he ordered my workup, there were significant delays. Radiology came twice to perform my CT but couldn't proceed because the required IV had not been placed. Despite multiple calls for assistance, my IV wasn't established until more than an hour after Dr. Cox evaluated me. After the shift change, my experience with Dr. Burley was completely different. I found his bedside manner dismissive, accusatory, and lacking compassion. I felt rushed out rather than treated like a patient whose concerns mattered. Between the dirty room, poor responsiveness, delays in ordered care, and dismissive discharge experience, I was extremely disappointed. I appreciate Dr. Cox's professionalism, but based on my overall experience, I would not return to Saint Luke's East for emergency care.
