We started with oysters. The mignonette was delicious and the oysters were fresh and tasty. Farm salad was enough for 3 or 4 people. The snapper entree's were amazing. Perfectly cooked and served witch delicious local vegetables! The seared tuna was an equally delicious. Wine & beer selection was good. Chocolate mousse dessert was really good as well. I highly recommend The River! We definitely want to return as the menu changes with seasons and locally sourced ingredients!

Second trip to River Restaurant starts off on a bad note. We arrived at 10:35 a.m. and the inside…read moredining room was only about half full with several empty tables, and the outdoor seating area, which we specifically requested, also had open tables. Still, we were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. We waited about 35 minutes before seating. Make it make sense. That said, the restaurant sits right along the Black Warrior River, which offers a really pleasant view, especially from the patio. On a cool spring day like today, it's hard to beat outdoor seating here. Tuscaloosa is buzzing with football fans for the annual A-Day spring game, which adds to the energy around town. My better half ordered the shrimp and grits, and I went with the steak fajita bowl, minus the sunny-side-up egg. Even at my age, I can't do the runny yolk situation, I always ask for my eggs over hard. With that change, I'll say the fajita bowl jumped up to one of my top breakfast/brunch go-to dishes in town. Yes, I know it's technically brunch, but it was before 11 a.m., so I'm calling it breakfast. The shrimp and grits were solid, though the tails were still on the shrimp, which meant a bit of extra peeling at the table, my wife wasn't a fan of that part, but she still finished the dish and enjoyed it overall. Only minor gripe on the food side: ice seems to be a rare commodity here, I'd love a few more cubes in the water. But overall, the food was very good, the patio seating is absolutely the way to go, and the river view is fantastic.

Made the decision to turn in and try Sanctuary; how fortuitous! First, this isn't just a music venue! It's a classic bar with real cocktails (mocktails, as well), but also a great reincarnation of an old church. And they serve awesome food!! Second, the drinks and food are top notch! Try a Paper Plane! It's my new favorite way to drink bourbon, TBH. You will absolutely feel distinguished while you do. I overheard many professionals around me, too, so it's definitely a place to run elbows with University types. Finally, I love music. This place has different musicians all the time. But my favorite is Dr. Warren Ertle's Corpse Revivers, an old fashioned Jazz band! They play two shows a night, almost every Tuesday! I say "almost" because, well, ...just check the Sanctuary's facebook page before you invite friends to a show. (Ask me how I know!) Overall, it's a great time, try the tacos!!

The facility was very nice, clean, and provided a pleasant atmosphere for our special occasion. The service was good, and the staff was attentive throughout our visit. As for the food, it was prepared well and appeared to be enjoyed by many in our group. Several people complimented their meals and seemed very satisfied. For me personally, the menu offerings and flavors were simply not the type of food I typically prefer. That's a matter of personal taste rather than food quality. Overall, I had a positive experience with the venue and service, but the cuisine was not quite my style. For that reason, I would give The Sanctuary on 25th a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I love supporting local businesses in my college town. I picked up some delicious pies from Sweet Daddy's Pies, some yummy treats from Bliss Treat Bar, and great soaps from Elephantine Mink Soap Co. as well as a lovely man selling goats milk soap - I didn't catch a business name. Such a lovely market! A must visit if you're from or visiting Tuscaloosa. They run the market on Saturdays and Tuesdays in June & July.

Ethan Gardiner played for us and his voice is amazing! We visited all the vendors and enjoyed ourselves greatly. Fresh fish, fresh veggies and baked goods - we bought all we could from four vendors. And did I mention the gluten free offerings? I saw three vendors with gluten free offerings. We brought home GF pound cake, GF chocolate chip cookies and gluten safe chicken salad. Yummy! We will definitely be back. The River Market Farmers Market is every Saturday morning (7-12) year round. Handicap accessible, grocery carts available. Bring your own bag to help carry things home.... And don't forget your furry companions. We saw several very well behaved dogs either carried or on a leash and one young lady was off to the side doing some distraction training with her chocolate lab. Anyone interested in fresh food, getting out in the fresh air and a healthy experience will be interested in visiting the River Market!

However Rama Jama's might have been one of the worst experiences I've ever had with food quality. I genuinely can't imagine how someone would look at that hotdog and serve it to a customer. It wasn't even burnt from a grill I'm pretty sure this hotdog was being boiled since they opened. On top of that it cost 19 dollars for a black hotdog, a burger, and a side of fries (that don't come with the meal you have to pay extra). They also charge 3 dollars for water throughout the whole venue. All in all, make sure you eat and drink before you come.

I did not get the chance to visit the stores, but I definitely will come back and visit soon. I came to the Venue for the Margarita Festival. It is a decent sized area that has nice seating and a small stage. The parking area is somewhat small, but luckily we were able to park next door and walk over. I will say for this hot summer day, I wish the Venue would've offered a few additional things: They didn't have enough shading. The only shad I noticed was under awnings and from the trees. I noticed that some of the picnic tables and chairs had umbrellas, but not all of them. Also I didn't see any misting areas and/or watering areas. They could do like they do at the ALABAMA games and have a huge cooler with the cheap cups and offer free water during events. Especially since this was an outside festival, water was definitely needed as I also didn't see where you could purchase water. Nonetheless, the Venue is a nice spot for events. I will have to look at their site to become more acquainted and see if they have any other events here.

We stayed here for Bama Bound on 6-15-25 and again the next night. My wife suggested this place when we signed up for BB. I knew nothing of it except it was not new. I really only like new hotels these days. My concern was only justified upon arrival. I should have researched it beforehand but you live and continue to learn. It was built in 1987 and the last time it was remodeled was 2012. I just found that out right now and you are welcome! Here is an article excerpt on the remodel back in 2012: The 26-year-old hotel is undergoing a $1.65 million interior facelift designed to give it a fresh 21st-century look. That was 13 years ago and it shows in all areas and in every nook and cranny of this place. Old, tired, and slightly ewww.... That my best description. The rooms are decent sized. The bathrooms are like ones from the 80's, tiny. Here are few more lovelies we encountered. We didn't have any washcloths the first night. We only had decaf coffee in the room. The refrigerator was warm. The bathroom floors had pubes piled up in the corners. The carpets are stained. The bed creaked any time you moved. The thermostat with separate fan control was original to 1987 and it was either 90 or 55 degrees in the room. Every single light bulb in the room was a different Kelvin temperature. Our view outside from our window was of the unkept dumpster area. No free nasty breakfast either! No coffee area in the lobby to make up for the decaf bs. The front staff was tepid at best. Elevators are even sketchy. Will not stay again unless it's free. Then I need to weigh my options before making a final decision even then. With that said... it is in a good spot on the planet for parents of students hotel needs. It just needs to be gutted and replaced. '25 - 60/111
