Thrilled to be the first to review! I had a leg up on photographer research when it came time to get married because my brother and his wife hired Jen for their wedding last year, so i can technically provide a DOUBLE recommendation for Jen & Shawn, but I'll stick to detailing my wedding, which was in May 2012. First - Pre-planning! Jen and Shawn are extremely professional, organized, and thoughtful. Jen stayed in close contact in the months leading up to my wedding, emailing me regularly with pre-wedding hints sheets and questionnaires that actually helped me more than anything else to put the day's schedule together. She asked thorough questions to ensure that everyone near and dear to us made it into our formal portraits - I am blessed with a really huge family, so this was no small task! Jen talked me through all the small details that a stressed-out bride is likely to forget, putting me at ease and helping me to get more organized. She was also flexible and willing to work out additional package items and payment options as we approached the wedding. In short, it was really, really, really wonderful to work with her in getting ready for our wedding. Second - Picture time!My husband and I are both camera shy, him more so than me. As a result, we have maybe 6 pictures of the two of us together after being together for 3+ years. I told Jen that. I told her that my husband's totally a weirdo in front of a camera. I told her she's gotta be patient with us. (Her response? She just giggled and told me not to worry! haha!) - On the wedding day, Jen and Shawn were GREAT at keeping the groomsmen and groom at one end of our venue and me and the bridesmaids at the other end - no paths crossed! We got great family photos done before. I got beautiful pictures of my and my ladies and me and my family. Shawn took some of the most emotional - happy! -shots from the day of the groomsmen getting ready and my husband's family portraits. The guys all told me that he put them at such ease and was so much fun to have around that they felt totally natural, and I think that came across exquisitely. And somewhere in the middle of all that, they captured ALL the details of the wedding that slip by so quickly on the day. - When it came time for family portrait time, they kept everything moving quickly (thankfully - it was HOT), and took tons of different kinds of pictures, from traditional to more contemporary, black and white & color. - These two didn't even take a break. Like what?! Hours of picture-taking (as an erstwhile camerawoman at work, I know how back-breaking and eye-straining ti can be), and they kept going and going and going, not even stopping to eat. Third - Finished product. Would I give 5 stars if the pictures weren't fabulous?! Here's what you need to know: - They were beautiful. The light was lovely. The details were all there. They are preserved memories and moments that I can't wait to revisit over the years. - I boo-hooed so many times while looking at them. Yes, I was probably a little weepy anyway from post-wedding relief... but there were so many pictures from the reception that captured our friends and family looking so happy and so THEMSELVES. My favorite picture was one of my youngest brother dancing with his hands thrown up in the air. Try not to cry when you see your baby brother tearing up the dance floor at your wedding with a big ol' grin on his sweaty face! - Jen had them to me before we even got back from our honeymoon - like 10 days after the wedding, both online albums and DVD format - which made our mothers as happy as they were at the wedding, basically. Ordering online is easy and quick, with many options and products available right through the Web site. Fourth - Price and overall value. I think almost everyone has some sort of freak-out over the costs incurred during a wedding. Jen's pricing is excellent, particularly because her clients get her AND Shawn without the mark-up that all other photogs charge for a second. Jen has done a couple of photo shoots for me: a boudoir shoot (Ladies, I HIGHLY recommend doing one of these, if not for your partner, then for YOU!), a maternity shoot and a newborn shoot. Every single time I have worked with Jen it has been a truly enjoyable experience. She is easy going, very creative and extremely professional. Jen always has great ideas for the lighting, colors, background, etc... She is more than a photographer, she is an artist. When it came time to choose the photos, she made it really easy. The photo book I have from one of the shoots is absolutely perfect! The design of it, the colors used, the placement of the photos, all of it is beautiful. I love showing it to friends and family. She is always on top of things, too. After each of the shoots, the photos were ready quickly, and my family was able to see the maternity and newborn shoot photos so that they could order some if they wanted to. Of course, the boudoir photos I only shared with my husband and some close girlfriends! :) I plan to frame some of the photos from the newborn shoot as Christmas gifts. I cannot WAIT to see the reactions from the grandparents when they see the sweet photos of their baby grandson! Some of the maternity photos brought tears to the eyes of my family members, so I can only imagine what the newborn photos will do! Jen just has a beautiful way of capturing her subjects. I cannot recommend Jen Yuson highly enough, and my wedding isn't for another 10 months! We shot our engagement portraits in November, and it was a wonderful preview for how great our wedding photos will be! From the beginning, it has been great to work with Jen, from setting up our contract (she has great pricing on packages and lots of a la carte options and add-ons) to an engagement outfit/style guide, to getting the pictures very quickly after the shoot. She took tons of photos, so there are plenty of great shots to choose from (she's making a guest book for us for the wedding!) - there's great variety among all the pictures; we did two separate shoots, her idea! She and Shawn are extremely creative and are experts at finding great spots whereever you choose to have your photos done - she even suggested a great place out in the woods with a beautiful creek for us to wade in, since she knows my fiance is outdoorsy! (and invited our dogs along!) My fiance is very uncomfortable in front of cameras typically, but Jen and Shawn made us both VERY comfortable; we had a great time, and it definitely shows in all the pictures! They even shared some of their own photography tips with us! Jen did an amazing job with our engagement portraits, and we're thrilled she's going to be shooting our wedding in a month or so. Jen photographed our wedding in Asheville last month and the pictures are WONDERFUL! She did such an amazing job. The shots were perfect in every way. We received our photos from our Sept. 8 wedding from Jen Yuson Photography within a few weeks of the event and found them all to be lovely and so numerous that it is astounding! Jen and Shawn took photos of our friends and family that expressed their uniqueness and personalities and captured wedding events within the context of the beautiful setting. They really provided a diverse suite of pictures (wide-angle, close-up, portraits, candids, action, black and white, and color) that tell the story of the day and our emotions as we experienced it.
