We stumbled across this ice cream shop as we were walking up King street. The smell of waffles lured us in. There was a short line but it gave us time to look over the menu. We actually beat the rush because a lined formed to the door. A standard 2 half scoops are $7.55. They have classic flavors and seasonal flavors as well. They offer waffle cones for $1.60. They taste different as they had a salty taste. Really unique. I really enjoyed the brown butter almond brittle, and there coffee ice cream. The mint chocolate chip was really good as well as their chocolate ice cream. Our server with nice and helpful. She explained every single flavor in detail. You can try their flavors if you'd like. Went to try out the new spring seasonal flavors, and they were all phenomenal. Really enjoyed the basque cheesecake with brambleberry, black tie tiramisu, and key lime pie. Also had a taste of the tropical bloom, which was a mix of mandarin, kiwi, and passionfruit- fruity but not too sour like sorbets often are. I heard about this place because of a yelp elite event but couldn't make it. I'm so upset I didn't know about this place sooner! As soon as you step in it smells like heaven. You can see the waffles/pieces being made fresh at the waffle station. They have so many different flavors it was almost overwhelming! Representing 2024 in alphabet series, J is for Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. I had read out this place and was down in Old Town Alexandria in February 2024, so when in Rome. It's interesting in this current alphabet series J is the only letter where all 5 places in 1st half of 2020's were not in the state I live in MD! I haven't done a 2025 alphabet series yet as it's unfair that the year hasn't ended yet and will finish all these others Before 2018 to 2024 before I start a 2025 series. After eating a quick dinner in Old Town, I saw a lot of people at Jeni's on that chilly February night. It's not cheap, but this is amongst the best ice creams I've had. They had a wide variety of flavors. I got 2 scoops, which came with a piece of waffle cone, which I thought was a nice additional touch and tasty too, but the real highlight was the excellent taste of the ice cream. My friend and I came to try the Fall Flavors, because my favorite seasonal flavor is back! I love love Miso Butterscotch Brownie, is nutty, chocolate-y, salty and umami! I wish it would stay for the year. I tried their newest Fall flavor, Orange Burnt Creamsicle, I can say it's just such a lovely flavor, I think the slightly bitterness of the burnt orange pairs well with sweetness of it, is such warming flavor for an ice cream! I've been ordering it quite often now, because she is the perfect transitional summer to fall flavor! Luckily it was a gloomy day, so it wasn't packed as this location usually is during summer. I've been here several times and service is always the friendliest no matter how long the line. The inside space is small but if it's nice Old Town is great for a stroll while eating your cone. The ice cream flavors are unique-today they sold out of goat cheese and cherries(who'd have thought?!). They also had several Bridgerton theme flavors-queens sponge cake, earl gray tea,etc. I still prefer the classic chocolate but enjoy sampling those that sound interesting and am usually surprisingly impressed. The price is on the higher end but it's quality ingredients that make this a delicious treat! read more

Awesome ice cream place! We tried the seasonal flavor - White Chocolate Peppermint. There were white chocolate chunks in it, and the peppermint flavor was strong as well! We did a waffle cone and the standard size comes with two scoops. They are very generous with the sizes and the staff were friendly. The shop was very cute. and pretty clean, considering how crowded it was. With the business of NYE, we were able to be in and out within 15 min, which was better than I thought it would be. The bottom line: I was sadly underwhelmed by my recent Jenis ice cream outing in Old Town--and it was the ice cream. The service was fine, several tired/jaded seeming servers in Mother's Day evening, and I can't really fault them. The line moved quickly and all questions were answered. The ambience is generic ice cream, totally vanilla, but clean. But, my ice cream and waffle cup was boring. The honey vanilla put me to sleep, all I could taste was cold cream. The double dough was maybe a single lump of dough in more cold. The only tingle of saving grace was the darkest chocolate, which had a punch of chocolatey flavor. The waffle cup was also a bit too salty. I didn't even finish my vanilla or waffle cup...sadness. I remember my first Jeni's experience in Columbus and it was tasty, same with my overpriced pints and the cookbook. It was always best when I made it at home. What a brazen RIP OFF even by tourist trap standards. Last time I checked a "loaded baked potato" had sour cream, butter, bacon bits and more and an ICE CREAM SUNDAE is commonly understood to include generous portions of ice cream, whipped cream, crushed nuts of some sort, a generous dollop of thick warm hot fudge or some other similar rich topping and if you're lucky the proverbial "cherry on top". When my wife and I ordered the Jennie's splendid ice cream "House Special Sundae we were eagerly anticipating all of the above and more since they clearly were suggesting in their multiple flyers prominently placed on the counter that it was something they were going to go all out on. WRONG! We honestly were at a loss for words when a cold tending towards stale waffle cone was pushed in front of us with two skimpy scoops of expensive ice cream and a dribble at best (maybe two or 3 teaspoons at best?) of chocolate syrup so thin it just puddled all over in one corner and NOTHING else. No whipped cream, no hot fudge, no nuts of any sort, no cherry, no sprinkles, no NOTHING. It was the most pathetic excuse for anything approaching an ice cream sundae I've seen in my entire adult life. I honestly don't see how someone could push it across the counter toward you and charge an exorbitant tourist area price with a straight face but this "Store Manager " didn't seem to have a bit of problem doing so. When I gave the feedback that what I was looking at simply wasn't an ice cream sundae it elicited a shrug and a suggestion that I "Call corporate". Jeni's ice cream is always so buttery soft and the perfect amount of sweet. Customer service was poor this time unfortunately. The cashier had an attitude when I asked her to separate the flavors I got. The other flavor was for someone else so we needed separate containers. She had an issue with that I guess and just walked away after I paid, never said have a great day, thanks for coming in, nothing. I've heard so much about this ice cream shop!! I don't know where or when, but I have. Their signature signage outside caught my attention in my peripheral view. I rarely come to Old Town Alexandria so I had to stop even though I had zero capacity for it!! The staff was super inviting and friendly as soon as we walked in. I was a little overwhelmed due to zero capacity and truly couldn't bother to actually read the flavors/descriptions. I asked the employee what was the popular flavor and what was his favorite flavor. Without hesitation, I let him know that I was not interested in the seasonal flavors as he was starting to point that direction (haha). He let me taste three different flavors before I settled on Brown Butter Almond Brittle. The smallest size was the kid's bowl, which totaled $5.56 (including tax). Although it was pricey, Their ice cream is definitely pricey, given the area (and probably insane rent!). There were parking spots in front of the shop, but I'm not sure if payment is required. I've been a Jeni's fanatic for nearly a decade now! I love all of the unique flavors that they come up with as well as the traditional ones they have on the every day menu. The Old Town location is always so friendly and the customer service is never lacking presence. Parking can be a bit of trouble because it is mostly street. There is a very small paid parking lot behind the building, though. The prices are on par for the area and I am never disappointed with my selections. They have a rewards system that is nice to have if you frequent the business, too. There is seating inside only. None outside. They allow samples, as well. If in the area, they are worth the parking hassle to get a sweet treat. read more

I'm not really an ice cream gal however I've heard so many great things about this place and it was almost 100 degrees outside so I decided it may be a great time to try it out. The minute you walk in you are immediately given a warm hug by the smell of fresh waffle cones and bowls being made and BOOM, you're intoxicated and no doubt going to get one to accompany your ice cream. They have soooooo many unique and delish flavors that it's really tough to choose but they let you sample which helps in making your decision. Which is amazing, because that's the best way to encourage repeat business to your ice cream shop, is with rotating flavors. So we get in line and start perusing the menu. The pressure was on, because I don't have one of these back home, so I had to choose the Right flavor. I end up choosing Darkest Chocolate and Salted Chocolate Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks in a Buttercrisp Waffle Cone. Excellent choices. The chocolate was nice and had a hint of bitterness. The peanut butter was very nice and peanuty with some salt and then that texture from the flecks was nice. I realize that this paragraph isn't saying much of anything with substance, but the bottom line is that they were delicious. And I always love a big waffle cone. Ever since then, I've been wanting to go back and try more stuff. I was pining. And then one day, my prayers were answered, we got one in Orlando! The Sweet Potato Marshmallow Praline was perfection - definitely a must-have for me. Just a heads-up: the ice cream melts quickly, so take your time to enjoy it, but not too much time! The chocolate one had a very unbinding texture like it was broken into bits. So we got the lemon bar. It is very lemony and coconuty from the coconut milk. We pick the brambleberry crisp. It was an ice cream flavor we have never had before, and i mean it in an amazing way. The crisps have a cookie dough texture. UDATED REVIEW: Overall a good experience at Jeni's. I've returned a few times since my first visit in 2021 and my experiences have been better. I do wish their scoops were larger, however, still delicious ice cream. There is street parking and parking in the back of the shop. Simply put - I've had better ice cream and in Alexandria in particular and based on this visit I can't see myself putting Jeni's in the same categories as some of the others in Alexandria. Price generally isn't an issue for me if the ice cream (or any other food product) is exceptional however for this ice cream I don't think the price is commensurate to the quality of the ice cream. I know some won't agree because there is a lot of local and social media hype with Jeni's because of their unique flavors and I'll admit, their unique flavors that I read-up on is what attracted me. On this visit I purchased the Gooey Butter Cake and Cookies & Cream. It was OK however considering it was a unique blend of flavors I did expect a richer taste from the Goey Butter Cake. It was moderately sweet. I did expect more in the flavor department. I'm not a fan of getting an ice cream cone and having it placed in a "cup" or bowl but it seems this is a signature move at Jeni's. My wife went in to the shop while I waited in the car however I'm sure they'll be accommodating if you ask for no cup with the cone. I want to try Jeni's again and if circumstances are ideal i.e. no line outside I will certainly return to try the other flavors I mentioned and quite possibly upgrade my review to a 4*.
