When you're in the mood for a sweet treat, Jeni's always hits! I've been many times and this spot remains at the top of my ice cream list. We visited after dinner on a weekday and it was pretty empty. It could be my imagination, but it seemed like there were more flavor offerings at this location than some of the others, including exciting new seasonal drops. The staff was very patient and generous with offering samples. I opted for the standard scoops of peppermint patty and Queen Charlotte sponge cake. Both were absolutely divine! I loved the peppermint cookies littered throughout the first, and it was refreshingly minty without running into toothpaste territory. The second actually might be one of my favorite flavors I've had at Jeni's. The almond buttercream ice cream combined with raspberry jam was decadent and made complete with satisfying pieces of cake in every bite. Another great visit out of many more to come. Came here for a late night craving maybe an hour before closing. It was a lovely evening not too warm not too cold & once we arrived; there was a little bit of a line almost to the door. Immediately upon arriving, we could smell the aroma of freshly made waffle coats. There is indoor and outdoor seating and some merch along the wall while we inched our way to the ice cream counter. We sampled a couple new flavors because why not? We opted for a 2 scoop ice cream waffle bowl that was so delicious. I am glad I shared it but I could have easily eaten it by myself. read more

The cookies in cream is REALLY creamy like the middle of an Oreo, so I don't love it surprisingly. However, the mint chip is the best ever, so overall they will keep me coming back! I love Jeni's! Specifically the Southport location as they have super friendly service and a great variety. While still a little chilly, I tried their Hot Toddy sorbet which was a nice change from their 'regular' ice cream. It was smooth and fresh tasting and had just enough bite to make you feel warm while eating sorbet. I complimented this with their double chocolate which was excellent as well. This is the first Jeni's location I ever visited, so I felt compelled to write a review after paying them another visit last week. We came by after having dinner just across the street at Tuco & Blondie. This location right on Southport and off the brown line is perfect for those dining or shopping around Southport Corridor to pop in for a sweet treat. There is usually a line during prime time, but the staff working is CRAZY efficient and the line goes by quick! Of course, the ice cream is phenomenal. I have so many favorites, but on the visit I went with the Texas chocolate sheet cake and gooey butter cake in a waffle cone (don't sleep on the bramble berry crisp though, my #1 Jeni's flavor!). The waffle cones are the best I've ever had! When you enter a Jeni's the intoxicating sweet smells of the cones being made are heavenly, and they taste just as good. There isn't much of an indoor dining space, but there are so spots outside under the L to hang out and enjoy. Top tier ice cream, and one of the best sweet treats for the summertime! read more

We loved everything about the ice cream from the texture to the flavor and the longer lasting melting time. We ordered  a scoop of Darkest Chocolate and Pineapple Upside Down Cake ice cream. Both were delicious. If you've never tried jeni's ice cream, you really should, just make sure you take the time to savor the fragrance and flavor of the ice cream. I had not been to this location--getting to a Jeni's in the city can be tricky if you're not using public transportation! But I stopped at a shop nearby for an event and, as part of the event, we were able to grab a treat from Jeni's, so of course I couldn't pass it up. Let's start with the elephant in the room: They're expensive. Like, really expensive for an ice cream cone. For that reason, it's not a place that I'll be going with any sort of regularity. But for an occasional treat, or a night out with friends or something, I'd stop in. They make their own waffle cones here. As I stood in line, there was an employee making them before my eyes. That's pretty awesome. I'm not sure I've ever been much of a waffle cone person--especially since they tend to be more expensive. But having them made by hand while you wait is a different thing altogether. I'm still not a huge waffle cone person... and to be honest, the cone seemed to have a bit of a taste that I didn't like (it was almost spicy in some respect? I could taste a bit more of cinnamon, nutmeg, whatever they put in there). So would I pay an extra $1.50 for a waffle cone? Only if someone else was buying. I got darkest chocolate ice cream (I wonder if this is the same flavor that used to be called Zanzibar chocolate), and it was really good. Smooth and creamy and rich in flavor. I was actually pretty impressed that I didn't spill a drop of ice cream from the time I got the cone until I got home 10-15 minutes later. I was really afraid it would be a terrible mess with ice cream on my hands and shirt and stuff, but the only drips I made were on my kitchen floor when I was nearly finished with it. Not sure if that has anything to do with the ice cream or not, but it was good to not be dripping in stickiness. I bought a couple pints to try at home. I got the darkest chocolate for others to try, and wildberry lavender, since that piqued my interest. I'm not a fan of lavender. I don't love the smell, since it's usually to strong; I don't drink tea or anything that would have a lavender taste. But the wildberry lavender flavor was really something else. THIS is the type of thing that makes a place like Jeni's worth it. The vanilla, chocolate, or other run of the mill flavors--you can take it or leave it, really. I mean, B&J Phish Food is my favorite ice cream and it's wildly cheaper than this; a pint at Jeni's costs $12 (I can't believe people pay this regularly--I wouldn't have if someone at home hadn't asked me to pick up some ice cream paid for it). I still struggle to comprehend this; $12 for a PINT of ice cream. Wow. (But I digress; sticker shock still hits me like slap to the face.) As I said, the special flavors like wildberry lavender is what makes a place like Jeni's special. You can't find this in a grocery store, generally. The texture was creamy, and I like a little melt in my ice cream so it melted just enough for me pretty quickly. I don't know if I could really specify a flavor besides "good". It had a bit of berry taste but the lavender was so subtle as to be nonexistent for me--I couldn't discern specific lavender flavor, which for me is a good thing. What's was important is that all the flavors combined to make a really lovely, light flavor. Will I be back to Jeni's often? Absolutely not, unless I get a much higher paying job. But will I return to Jeni's? Definitely. read more

They always have quick and friendly service, and they're open quite late, which is great for a late-night treat. Jeni's is known for uniquely creative and delicious flavors - Brambleberry Crisp is my favorite, but I also love Skillet Cinnamon Roll and Buttercream Birthday Cake. I can't believe how long it took me to discover Jeni's. My favorite flavor is salted caramel since it has this delicious Burnt sugar/ bourbon after taste. Yesterday, I got vanilla honey and it was *chef's kiss* perfection. The honey was blended in and added a subtle flavor. If you can't decide on a flavor you can get two half scoops. I didn't like the taste of the waffle cone and felt it over powered the ice cream. It almost had a pepper after taste. Maybe it's the almond extract?? One less star because I wish there was more space to sit and eat your ice cream. I don't think they're is anything particularly unique about the in person experience and think you can skip the line and get the pint to-go or at the grocery store. read more

Love this ice cream shop and all the varieties of flavors! They do a great job pacing the amount of people that come in and ensure social distancing. They unfortunately don't offer samples at this time due to COVID, but the lady who assisted us did a great job answering all our questions. We got the Salted Peanut butter with chocolate Flecks, and Texas sheet cake ice cream on a waffle cone. The salted peanut butter was a perfect balance of salty and sweet and the Texas sheet cake was chocolate overload and was super sweet. The service was prompt and fast. Oh Jeni's... If you've never tried Jeni's before, it definitely lives up to the hype. With locations popping up in all the neighborhoods in Chicago it seems, we'll be able to get Jeni's just about anytime and anywhere soon! I'll say I seem to find myself craving Jeni's once a month or so. Their ice cream has this really unique creamy consistency throughout and doesn't seem to melt very fast. HOW DO THEY DO THAT?! Being a purist, their vanilla is always one to make it into my trio sampler. While I've never had a bad flavor from here and they seem to consistently offer different flavors depending on the season, you're truly in for a unique treat each time you visit. Way to keep things fresh! Other flavors I love are the salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks and just about any chocolate or coffee variation they offer at the time.
